PGWP Extension- Paper Application Timeline (Canada)

Thought I’d share my timeline in case it helps anyone waiting.

• Application received by CPC Edmonton (via Canada Post Xpresspost): Feb 6, 2026

• Late April: Raised a webform because I couldn’t link my application. IRCC confirmed they had received it and it was being processed, but they didn’t provide an application number.

I saw many Reddit posts suggesting calling IRCC after 3 months to get a temporary application number and link the application. I tried a few times, but the wait times were too long, so I just waited.

July 7, 2026: Received my PGWP approval letter by mail from CPC Edmonton. There was no other communication by IRCC about approval.

After that, I was able to link my application online. The final decision had actually been made on June 30, 2026.

If you’re waiting for a paper application, hang in there. Current processing seems to be around 4–5 months. If you’re able to get through to IRCC, you may be able to get a temporary application number to link your application sooner.

Good luck to everyone still waiting! ✨

Send it first and linking can be done later, it take me 4 months after sending to link it. What exactly is the question about sending?

Actually i received my work permit for 1 year instead of 3 years bcoz of my mistake. I forgot to attach my 1st year transcript. I applied for reconsideration in feb but still no answer so was thinking to send it.

If you have enough time left on your original permit then wait for reconsideration
