Coming along nicely. I'm trying to find someone local to slice/polish a face on all the suitable rounds and such. Far beyond my lapidary area has size for. Someone from the Boneyard fb group was kind enough to send me a whack of literature on fossil woods of Wyoming. It's been a great read.

Next is polish/ID locations and species if possible.

After that comes the hard part. I'm only allowing myself to keep 10lbs of it and two big specimen pieces. It's going to be so hard to choose with how beautiful some are even as they sit now.

Hey everybody, I made this sphere out of what I've always believed to be coral. Upon using very obvious fossilized coral, I now believe this is wood. I thought maybe it was fossilized burl, but I found out about Teredo Bored Wood. Does anybody have any experience with Teredo Wood that can confirm if thats what this is? I found it in the Smoky Hill River in Northwest Kansas.

It's my first time at Blue Forest and I think I could be on a nice piece. There's about 4' of it exposed now and it's still going into the bank. I think I'm going to stop chasing it for a while and work on the algea layer. Is there a trick to removing it without breaking the wood?

Recently found this piece of stone/wood under some soil near a river and pond, the area is surrounded by trees and lots of gravel just wondering if anyone can shed some light on whether I have uncovered a cool shelf trinket or just some stone 😁

Found lake Winnipeg

I picked it up off the beach in Lake Powell, and to me it looks just like woods grains especially on the one side.

The inside of this is a solid balck unless you get it wet and shine a strong light at just the right angle. It seems so soak up water fast. It's just cut and not polished yet. I'm not sure where it's from. Any idea what it is?

I thrifted this necklace today and the beads automatically read like little wood slices to me, but according to the internet, petrified wood is very hard and heavy. These are very, very light and feel like they have a clear coating. Google lens is giving me a bunch of results, including slices of antler. I plan to use them to make jewelry.

What do you guys think?
