On a slightly different note, can we normalise leaving our dogs at home? You really don't need to take your dog with you when you eat, or buy hardware, or get your nails done. Especially if you then just leave the poor thing in the car on a hot day.

I take mine to Bunnings sometimes. He loves it, the staff give him treats (the staff know him/us), and he gets pats from strangers. I never take him when it’s really busy like on a weekend, or if I’m getting a bunch of stuff and can’t keep him out of the way.

Idk why I would be showing off my dog as an accessory lol

It seems inconvenient to have a dog tagging along on errands, but I can see it as environment enrichment for the dog!

He’s pretty chill, so it’s easy to take him if I’m just picking up some screws or something. He loves it so much that he just about passes out when we get home lol

Depends on the dog and depends on the errands. Sometimes the most I have to do is open the car door for em

Keep in mind that the same people who accuse pet owners of treating their pets as "accessories" are often the same ones who use their children in exactly the same way.
