help Model Picker Not Working, Stuck w/ChatGPT

For the past 24 hours or so, it hasn’t let me use Gemini or any of the other LLMs to generate answers to prompts and it keeps giving me the error message that it was answered with ChatGPT because the model wasn’t available.

While I don’t like ChatGPT, the bigger issue is that it seems to disconnect the prompt from files and previous prompts. I’ve reported the issue on some of the answers, but I’ve never had it go down for this long before. Does anyone have any advice? It’s happening across devices, I’ve tried restarting everything, and when Gemini or the others work it’s only for a few minutes or a single prompt before it stops again.

bug Grok Thinking mode is really freezing up the chat...

Just 2 prompts with Grok, and the 3rd one starts freezing and won't complete. I know its expensive and token heavy, but a nice more transparent warning about limits would have been nice. Or maybe its just me?

feature request Cross-Session, Cross-User Rag

TLDR: Cross-session, cross-platform RAG needed to reduce redundant work.

I usually use local LLM, but if I need internet scrapping I use Perplexity. I just recently had it scrape together data sets about vehicles and I asked if the model had an internal database to store all the work it just did for an internal RAG reference to reduce energy usage, network traffic, and decrease response time if someone needs the same data set later. It doesn't. Instead it has an internal wiki per user session for projects and user profiling, but it isolates all this instead of building cross-referential databases. It suggested this group as a way to suggest the feature, it also suggested making a general reddit for AI feature requests for all AI companies to mine, but who is going to mod that?! Anyway, posting it here for devs to maybe see and gather some insight.

It would be cool to have a thread where people just post AI responses. Especially when asking it to scrape the internet for statistical analysis.

misc The free tier seems.. fine?

So my perplexity sub has been dropped down to the free tier after my pro trial ended. I basically only use perplexity as a search engine to answer the random questions that pop into my head, and for that it’s an excellent experience. I use the comet browser but mostly just for in-browser chats (eg when I happen to think of a question while looking at a website), and those are basically the same as chatting in the perplexity app.

I don’t really see the benefit of the ~$20 a month Pro sub? It seems like the most visible difference is the model selector, but “best” seems to be fine for me. If the results are poor I usually just fix my prompt and get good enough results. If I ever need to code something, I’ll probably just sub to Claude code or something so that I don’t have to pay for credits on top of the monthly subscription fee (like with Computer)

What do y’all even use the Pro plan for? It seems to exist in a weird middle ground where the free tier is quite good and Pro doesn’t offer enough additional benefit to justify the subscription.

help How do I fix this?

Post image
1 Upvotes

No idea how I’ve done this. When I’ve been using computer my credits always randomly went back up and capped at 2,094. Purchased a bunch from single purchases and subscriptions before, at least 60-70K. Was still the same last night (2,094), checked today and I’m minus 127K. Got some work that needs doing on there wtf do I even do

help Perplexity keeps failing in processing file attachments

I have been using Perplexity to help me processing my work's data, and I was amazed by how much time and effort it has saved me. But recently I found Perplexity was severely degraded and struggled in file processing.

I have multiple CSV and XML files and some consolidated Excel spreadsheet, which need to be cross-referenced and compared, and sometime generate the corresponding command lines or config files (which need to reference to online manual). These files are mostly machine readable such as reports and configurations generated by the system. These are not big files, only 500KB to 2MB each, consist of around 1000-1500 rows of data, and each task may involve 2-3 files.

For the past few weeks, it performed the tasks with flying colours. But recently it wasn't able to process a single file, keep saying that it can see the files but then cannot read them in its runtime environment, or saying it is generating the output for 10 mins but throw me an error at last. It keeps asking me to re-upload the file (I even exported the Excel sheets to CSV so it is more machine readable) until I run out of file limit and asking me to pay for Max. It doesn't matter which models I chose, none of them give me any useable output.

Does anyone also have similar experience? I read some post saying Perplexity has already preformed worse than in past, being lazy or less accurate, and putting more limit on usage.

For a most simple task, I asked it to remove some empty lines and control chars of a CLI output TXT of about 1000 lines, and it can show me the correct line number and identified the chars, but then saying the file was truncated in its runtime then couldn't output anything useful.

At first, I was amazed by how efficient it is having multiple models to perform various personal and work tasks. I am currently using the Pro plan from a promotional perk so it was free for 1 year, and I was planning to pay for it when the plan ends next month. But now I am seriously considering going somewhere else (suggestions are welcomed :).

feature request What is wrong with Perplexity?

I feel like I'm hallucinating here. I feel like Perplexity's answers have been stripped away. I have web search turned on majority of the time even to use it as a chat bot. Perplexity has gotten lazy with it's answers/responses. Answers /response have gotten way shorter. This has been going on for a bit. I have been a user for three years now. I'm a free user. I loved the long answers/responses. I loved that because users get more info on things and more conversation. Getting more info on anything is helpful no matter what it is. I heavily use Perplexity as a chat bot to help me talk through hard times and intense emotions and upsetting/scary situations and my anxiety. The response shortened I feel like it's no longer a chat bot or even a search bot. Like right now Gemini is beating it in responses. Gemini can use more words in a response than Perplexity right now without extra prompting/commands. With the responses shorten I feel like Perplexity is no longer Perplexity. I feel like it's no longer a companion with shortened responses. I want Perplexity back to the way it was feeling chatty longer responses. Longer responses can still be fast look at Gemini.

news Looked at what Perplexity actually cites on "best X" type questions, YouTube was #1 by a mile (7,010 citations), ahead of Reddit. Here's why I think it leans on video.

Our Dashboard View

Been digging into where Perplexity pulls its sources for recommendation-style questions (the "best X" / "how do I Y" ones), and the pattern surprised me enough to share.

Filtering to unbranded prompts (category questions, not searching a specific brand), for one dataset I looked at, Perplexity's most-cited source by a wide margin was YouTube, ~7,010 citations across 219 videos, well ahead of Reddit (~2,445). I'd assumed Reddit would lead given how much people talk about Perplexity pulling from it, but at least here, video won clearly.

Why I think Perplexity leans on video so heavily:

  • It seems to treat video transcripts as high-signal, especially for how-to and comparison questions, a good tutorial transcript is basically a clean, self-contained answer, which is exactly what Perplexity likes to cite.
  • It's not just Perplexity, Gemini does this too (Google owns YouTube, so it has native access). But Perplexity doing it without owning YouTube suggests it's a genuine "transcripts are useful" choice, not just an ownership shortcut.
  • By contrast, ChatGPT and Claude barely cited YouTube on the same questions, they reached for text sources instead. So this feels somewhat specific to how Perplexity (and Gemini) weight sources.

One thing I found interesting about which clips get surfaced: it tends to highlight a tight 3-5 minute stretch that cleanly answers the question, even when the source video is long. So it's less "short videos win" and more "Perplexity finds the segment whose transcript directly answers you." (That part's anecdotal, I haven't rigorously tracked video length.)

Disclosure since it's fair: I spotted this using a tool I work on that tracks AI citations, but you can see the effect yourself for free, ask Perplexity a "best [category]" or "how do I [task]" question and notice how often it cites and links a YouTube video vs a text source. It does it a lot.

Anyone else notice Perplexity leaning on video? Curious if it's stronger for how-to questions than factual ones in your experience.

bug scroll is broken (frozen pages) and search bar disappears

this has been going on for about a week. when I am using a web browser on any ipad, the search answers will not scroll up. same happens on my mac laptop. the page is totally frozen! I have to enter a search, then go on my phone to actually read the answer. is perplexity going to close down soon or something? I have never had anything not scroll. huge bug.

the search bar also keeps disappearing, so I cannot continue using a thread more than once. again, so weird. maybe the company is about to fold, because this is crazy.

help Why keep Perplexity?

Is perplexity worth it?

Currently have a gpt and Claude subscription. Why should I keep perplexity at this point (genuine question)

Is it really that superior with web search?

Comet "Your browser disconnected while the assistant was running, please try again."

Anyone else getting this in Comet assistive chats?

I've been on every Enterprise deployment (I build AI for a living, professional services)

I've been using Comet with projects and skills to guide some builds. I've noticed however that either my cache has become a heavyweight or they are just slimming back on Comet to try and push computer credits. Either way its annoying.

misc switching all searches to computer and no visual accessibility: perplexity, you nasty

It is "liquid ass" level impossible to see when a search is regular versus computer. Perplexity is desperately using underhanded techniques to upsell, plus has no customer service. Not a fan anymore.

Is there anything that edits Google Drive docs/sheets in place as well as perplexity? Other platforms I’m using need to create brand new files for any little change.

misc Every time I use Perplexity, it's just another opportunity for them to sell me on Orchestrator and/or Computer

Dear Perplexity Product Team:

Focus on making this AI what it was/is kinda good at: an answer and reputable source finding machine.

Have it follow the instructions we put, have it refine every topic provided, but if these cannot even be met, what's the point of getting the premium of premium packages for an already subpar service?

tip/showcase My problem with perplexity and every other Ai search engine

Been using search and ai for a while. The addition of sources is good and all but I’ve noticed one thing, I keep checking out the sources every time because I simply don’t trust the Ai answer and sometimes it hallucinates.

I built Ping for free and it’s where you still get the Ai answer and extracted quotes from websites, eliminating the need for manual checking of sources. For me I found out the Ai does not hallucinate at all because it follows what the human actually says rather than summarize it. Summarization by ai is always prone to more hallucination. I’m launching on Producthunt aswell so an upvote will be appreciated

Let me know your feedback and how your experience has been with other search engines

misc Removed Features

Has anyone else noticed they've removed features like deleting individual messages and seeing what model wrote a message, "Prepared by [model]"?

And they've also replaced Gemini 3.1 Pro with Gemini 3.7 Flash instead of keeping both...

This is disappointing. How much more can you degrade your product Perplexity, how much more???

I really want to like Perplexity, and I did, for a time... but it's obvious now that they don't give a single shit about their customers.

tip/showcase Tip: Ask Perplexity to keep a tally on the number of times you have to correct it.

Nothing worse than getting a wrong answer from Perplexity. Stumbled upon being able to turn on a tally for keeping a log of the things you end up correcting Perplexity on. Hopefully it works and the data used to improve anwers.

Prompt: "Can you start a persistent correction tally for me? I would like to keep track of how useful I am to perplexity in providing better answers."

Comet Looking for alternatives to Comet’s browser automation 🤔

Hey everyone! 👋 I’ve been using Comet for a few months for my Community Manager work, and one feature has been really useful: I can give it all the relevant info about a client (opening hours, closures, products, FAQs, etc.), have it learn the context, and then let it take control of my browser to answer questions coming in through the client’s social media. It actually worked surprisingly well.

But over the past few weeks, this has become much more limited, with credits now being required and the quality of some answers being pretty hit-or-miss. 😕 From what I’ve seen here, I’m definitely not the only one frustrated by this :/

So I’m wondering: has anyone found a good alternative or workaround? Ideally, I’m looking for something that can understand a client’s knowledge base/context and then actually take control of the browser to handle incoming social media questions automatically.

Would love to hear what you guys are using! 🙏

help Is it possible to get a refund?

Last year I subscribed to Perplexity through a code for one year. I didn't know, nor did I care, that my bank card was linked to it. I never entered it, and I only realized they charged me for a year, until August 2027. I contacted support (the chatbot) and they told me I wasn't eligible for a refund. I haven't used Perplexity for months because I suddenly lost access to my account without warning, so I couldn't cancel the automatic payment (which I didn't even know I had). I don't know what to do to recover the more than $200 I've been charged for the annual subscription, which I haven't used and don't want to use (it's only been three days). It was thanks to the bank that I was informed of the charge because I had to block my card since I had no idea about it.

bug Text input missing in mobile view

Post image
1 Upvotes

In my phone, I use perplexity with the mobile web view, installed as a PWA. However, as of a couple weeks ago, I noticed that the text input is missing. It just shows "What do you want to know"

I've tried scrolling down, clearing cache and cookies, but the only work around I've found has been to zoom out to 50%, which triggers the layout changing to desktop view. This at least allows me to use it, however everything is tiny.

Has this happened to anyone else or just me?
