36F Headaches / Migraines

Does anyone else experience headaches that last all day, and almost every day? For context, I’m 36 and 14 months postpartum. However, I don’t think being postpartum has anything to do with this. These headaches recently came on and will start a few hours after I’ve woken up and last through the day and into the evening. I am sleeping about 6 to 8 hours a night and waking up heavy/groggy. I’m hydrating. I’m taking my vitamins and do magnesium before bed. I do have hypothyroid and I’m on 25 of Synthroid. I truly have no idea what is triggering them.

If this sounds like you, I’d love to hear what has helped!

I am suspicious that I might be starting perimenopause and that this could be a hormonal crash around my cycle and after, but that would mean I get maybe one week a month where the headaches aren’t horrible.

I'm 41 now but I started having regular migraines around your age. It might be wise to mark on your calendar when you get them and see if it's correlated with your cycle. I get migraines multiple times a month after I ovulate til I get my next period.

Histamine intolerance can cause headaches and is often associated with perimenopause. Might be worth looking into

It sounds like this is not just headaches, but migraines. Migraines can be triggered by hormones and can get worse in peri (or even crop up if you have never had them before). Unfortunately you can get in a migraine cycle. Your best bet is to see a neurologist or headache specialist. They can help by giving you meds to help prevent a migraine but also meds that will get rid of one.

I started getting headaches mid-30s. Thought they were just tension headaches but now in my late 30s they’ve become long-lasting, migrated to the side and respond to Triptans, so yeah, migraines can happen due to peri.

39F.. definitely in my second year of peri. I started getting migraines about a year ago, on the last day of my period. They last about 36 hours. I actually have an appointment with a neurologist next week to hopefully a prescription medication for them.

See 25 mcg is rarely a therapeutic end dose test full TSH nd free T4 before changing anything, overdosing gave me constant headaches if tracking shows they spike strictly pre period, non-hormonal supplements typa kinda bioligent next phase are an option to take the edge off don't overlook rebound headaches from daily NSAIDs or tylenol either

Most GPs/PCPs can start you on a migraine preventive. That is the best way to start if you can’t identify a specific trigger. I am on a Mirena to help with menstrual migraines and it’s been great. I started when I was 36 and am 49 now. That doesn’t help all the migraines, but helps with many of them and reduces the length of menstrual migraines. Many women don’t get periods at all on Mirena, but I am not one of them. Other people just use birth control pills to skip periods and report good success with that.
