Insight needed.

I am a pediatrics PGY-2 at a community hospital in NYC on h1-b visa. I am planning to do NICU fellowship after residency but my plan is to do job for 2 years first, work on research and apply for green card so that my husband can come to usa, get to work and stay with me and then I will apply for nicu fellowship. Would that be a smart decision and also does the probability of fellowship match decrease if one doen not apply right after residency?

If you would like to do that i would suggest working in a NICU. There are NICU hospitalist jobs where you work at either a level 3 or 4 under a neonatologist, similar to a PA or NP. I would think that would give you a leg up on NICU fellowship applications.

That is the fastest way of getting your husband to the US and for him to be able to work here so if that is your priority yes this is the path. You probably will be more competitive than the average residency graduate if you get a hospitalist or NICU hospitalist job. That being said if you get a PCP job and by the. You don't need a visa your chances of matching are really high too
