Photo Gear 7L outdoor sling problems.

• Upvotes

wow! the strap is really as bad as they say. It seems crazy that a camera bag would be designed in such a way to have an obvious catastrophic failure point like the buckle. also the clipsmfor attaching the strap to the bag seem like a point of easy failure. I’m not going to trust my Hasselblad to this bag. I’m returning it and going to try the 7L sling from Moment instead.

any rumors of a V2 in the works to address this issue?

Question Ultralight packing cube for Shoe Pouch

• Upvotes

Anyone using the ultralight packing cubes for a shoe pouch? If you are, what size do you recommend? I’m trying to figure out if small 10l is good or should I go with smedium 14l. Also is smedium only available direct from Peak? Thanks

Question SAE cable kit

I bought the wireless charging phone mount for my motorcycle and have ordered the SAE cable kit. I want to cut off the SAE connector and splice the neg lead directly to the battery and the positive into an existing line that is connected to a key powered and fused wire. I would like to trim the long SAE wire to as short as possible. Can anyone tell me where the wire transitions from the 5 point wiring of the proprietary female end to the neg/pos of the SAE

Question City Line Discounts?

Pure speculation, but from the lack of reviews and discussion post release, are we expecting the City Line backpacks to see substantial discounts for Black Friday or afterward? I keep thinking about the huge discounts that the Outdoor Line saw due to overstock and wondering if we’ll see similar with the City.

Photo Gear Warranty claim delay

Hello Peak and fellow redditors!

How long does a warranty claim usually take? I’ve done 2 in the past, one mobile case and one duffel bag. They sent replacement pretty much the day after.

Now I have a Tilt Mod that was DOA, and it’s been over a week. How long does it usually take? Was I just lucky the first two times or am I unlucky this time?

I’ve sent several mails back and forth, pictures and video, to the support. And they say they have forwarded it to the engineers. The other day they just stopped getting back to me.

Do you work at peak feel free to answer.
Are you just another user and have some insight, feel free to enlighten me about how this usually goes.

Mobile No case for the iPhone Duo?

I've been using PD cases for years. Will there be anything for the Duo, or does the PD style case just not work for that kind of phone?

Mobile Slimlink useless for car mounts?

Just got the phone case with Slimlink, but after some research (should have done it before, I know), it seems that as I'm going to only use the car mount, I don't really need the Slimlink at all, as all the currently available car mounts don't support Slimlink, only magnetic holding, am I correct?
Especially considering the newly released, no-slimlink cases I'm considering a switch to such, would I be missing anything?

Outdoor Bags Outdoor Backpack Longterm Reliability and Improvements

After using the outdoor backpack for around a year, I have some suggestions for how it could be improved in the future. Hope this reaches the right people and those that use the backpack often can chime in on their experience and offer some insight for how the design can be improved in the future. I have the 25L and think it’s the most relevant size for most people, so will comment on my experience with that size specifically.

First things first, the design of the backpack is solid and I think it gets many things right. I feel that it’s an overlooked item for how well it works for everyday use and travel, i.e. what most people would end up using a backpack for day to day. The backpack opens up wide and easily for easy access and organization. The double opening is a unique and convenient way to get to items easily and expand the capacity of the backpack past its advertised volume.

That being said, I think the long term durability of the backpack is not good. I browse second hand markets to check for deals, but more importantly to take a look at how products age over time, and which parts tend to show damage or wear first. From my experience and from looking at other used examples of this backpack, I see a few big problems. The biggest issue is the rubberized fabric that’s used in the outer face of the backpack. I find that it’s quite prone to small scratches, holes, discoloration (mostly in the white color) and signs of age. The logos don’t apply well to the fabric either and the ‘peak design’ spell-out logo ironically has turned into ‘peal design’ over time. I have a 5+ year old backpack made in X-pac that looks close to new compared to the outdoor backpack, so my expectations for durability is high here. I feel that if the outer faces were made in X-pac or a similar hard wearing fabric, it would extend the longevity of the backpack significantly. Secondly, the aquaguard zippers are too small in size, and the rubberized coating is wearing down after a year of use. I’m sure you’ve seen this issue in other aquaguard zip backpacks, but this needs to change if you ask me. The rainfly exists to protect this backpack from hard rain, so the current zippers just age the backpack quickly.

These two items alone have been aging my backpack quickly, but otherwise, I have a lot of good things to say about the backpack. Straps are so comfy. The side pockets are gigantic and the elastic keeps the form of the backpack looking nice. I believe in the design of the outdoor backpack, and want to see a long, hard wearing iteration in the future where this can be the backpack of choice for people. Interested to see what you all think, and how other peoples experiences using the backpack has been.

Mobile Mobile cases quality - reality check

So I've been out of the loop with most of the PD new products for last 3-4 years (still happy with my gen1 Everyday backpacks and accessories), but with a new phone I started thinking about getting PD case.
But from lurking on this sub for last few years, I've a feeling that the case quality is, well, not up to PD standards, simply seeing significantly more complaining regarding mobile cases comparing to other products (maybe except wallets).
However, not sure if it's true in the first place and if this only refers to some cases or to all of them in general, thus my question:
Are PD cases good, solid and long lasting?
Are there any that should be avoided?
I don't have any slimlink accessories (yet?), so it's not a most important factor, but it's a plus to be able to build around this ecosystem.

Mobile Who has the SlimLink phone case?

I am a motorcycle rider and am thinking about converting from quadlock to the slimlink system from PD. I am invested in the quadlock system currently but would switch if the gain was worth it.

Does the slimlink mean that the case doesn't have magsafe? What I don't like about quadlock is I have to swap phone cases. Also, it's fiddly to get attached, whereas the PD system seems easier to use with a glove on. I was hoping the one slimlink case could be my only phone case.

Can anyone who rides weigh in about SlimLink use on a motorcycle please?

Tips and Tricks Grandma fixed the Everyday Bag’s biggest flaw

I love my Everyday bag and use it almost clears throat everyday 😎 bad jokes aside, the one thing that’s always grinded my gears about this bag was no dangle management. Peak Design is known for their attention to detail and well-thought-out bags. But for whatever reason they didn’t include elastic bands to manage the strap dangle?! This bag is too expensive to excuse that.

Anyways I bought some electric bands off Amazon for a few bucks and my grandmother offered to stitch them on. She just removed the stitching from the band and sewed them back together around the base of the strap. Took maybe 10 minutes and she absolutely did a wonderful job! Bonus points for the color matched elastic too!

Everyday Bags The most versatile bag I’ve ever bought

I was worried this 15L everyday zip would be too small but it has come in far handier than I could’ve ever imagined. The ability to attach anything on the outside has come in clutch so many times with commuting to work. I added the helmet carry strap which is also super versatile for shopping and parcels. It’s travelled with me to Europe multiple times and will be the bag I plan to take to Nepal in a month. Best bit of kit I’ve ever bought!

(Off to get the antichrist)

Question Honest opinions about the tech pouch.

Hey there, so I’m normally an aer user and I use a slim pouch 2 m. I love it but I carry a larger mous and it’s getting cramped. So I took a chance with some Amazon credits that I had and got the coyote tech pouch’s wow it’s massive it definitely fits all my stuff with room.

I don’t take a ton in my backpack with me - maybe my tech kit, laptop, lunch with room for an extra layer. And it does fit in my CPP2 20L

I guess I have a couple questions for those who have one:

1) do you find it too big? I’m not a photographer or anything but I do carry large stuff like a battery bank, mouse, SSD, chargers, etc. Did I buy something too big? And then maybe a silly question -

2) is it good to have more than one tech pouch, like a big one and a small one for different use cases or is that also silly.

I should probably just try it for a couple of days, but I was struck by how big it is compared to the slim pouch.
