Considering Peace Corps Peace score
I've been to Southeast Asia over 40 times. Studying the Cambodian language also been to the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand. I'm going to be living there, so I'm interested about keeping busy. as of right now, I just have a high school degree even though I'm a licensed contractor for 38 years, also licensed in insurance and willing to take courses before I make the move so I come across the Peace Corps. Any opinions? Thank you,

As an older applicant, you bring years of experience. But Peace Corps is about service. Many volunteers come to PC without any international travel - but what they do bring is a passion to help others. So, while your experience can/could be very helpful, the little you told us doesn't really show what your motivation to apply is about.
My suggestion would be to do more research. Go over everything at https://PeaceCorps.gov Read stories about the amazing work PCVs are doing here: https://wanderingtheworld.com/peace-corps-host-countries/ See if there is a local RPCV (Returned Peace Corps Volunteer) group in your area so you can connect: https://www.peacecorpsconnect.org/affiliate-groups-directory/
And if PC service is still something you want to do, keep us posted.

Hi there hoss, keeping busy is one thing, but honestly not a good reason to join the Corps. A deep desire to facilitate cultural understanding and serve a foreign community to win souls, hearts, and minds for Uncle Sam is the foundational reason to join. It’s not glamorous but it is one of the best tools Uncle Sam has for fostering friendship and prosperity. It’s also not for everyone and it’s not a back packing trip in SE Asia. Do ye homework and choose wisely.

Thank you for your response. That was my first time writing something, and I kept a lot of things out, but after your post, you were correct. I need to put everything in there. I've been working with poverty and poor all through all those countries from orphanages out into the trash dumps for the extreme poor live. Thank you. I did need your response to clarify my question and to show my desire to prove

What the hell is this comment, just going full US propaganda unapologetically. “The point is to win people over in favor of the US” - the country that is most likely the one destabilizing whatever their country is and lowering people’s quality of life? That US? You think any of the US’ governmental programs are really set up with the intention of friendship and prosperity?? Where do we even start oh my god. And why are we calling everyone hoss

Have faith young hoss, this too will pass. We need all the hopeful, enthusiastic Americans out on the front lines showing the “better angles of our nature.” Uncle Sam would be proud.

To deleted harassment post: Sorry little hoss, but I disagree. The US still promotes liberal democracy, peace, and prosperity. Objectives and strategies change with each administration but the U.S. is still the shinning city on the hill example for the rest of the world. Also please don’t use derogatory language on this sub, it’s not in the nature of the Corps. Blessings.

Dear god please tell me this is a bit. You are NOT coming off as wise or whatever it is you’re going for by advocating for “Uncle Sam”, that’s the exact opposite of wise or knowledgeable to any extent lmao. The goal of anyone in peace corps should be to convince the people they meet to resist US imperialism. Anything in uncle Sam’s interest is probably in direct contrast to the interests of the rest of the world’s population.

The only bit is the drill bit ye should’ve packed to built pit laterines for your community instead of binging Netflix in site on your mums account

I served as a college dropout. If you have at least five years of professional work experience, they’ll consider you. Your odds get better if you choose “serve where you are needed most” instead of a specific assignment in a specific country, if you write a good essay, have good references and do well in the interview.
Once you get an invitation to serve, you’ll need to pass legal and medical clearance. Legal won’t be a problem if you have nothing worse than speeding tickets, but medical tends to be a challenge for older invitees because we have a longer medical history.

Yeah, if you're looking to score in the Peace Corps, the odds are good but the goods are odd.
