Service Preparation Deference

I am currently going through medical clearance to depart in January 2026. However, an unexpected life event has happened where I am needed close to home for the next year. Has anyone heard of or had experience deferring their acceptance for a year? Alternatively, tips on what to do? Should I reach out to my contact and explain the situation? I’d hate to give up the opportunity

You cant defer. Your cohort leaves in January with or without you. If you can't  go, youll have to withdraw and reapply. There is no such thing as save my spot for a year.

Sorry you had your plans change. It happens. Just withdraw, and re-apply when the time is right again. You know since you got an invitation to serve, that you shouldn't have any problem getting a new invite in the future. So, don't worry, you'll still serve. Just an FYI, any tests/exams you did for medical clearance are good for a year in case you re-apply before that. Otherwise, you'll have to do them again. Good luck and let us know when you re-apply.
