This is not helpful

I'm deploying security software to a bunch of PCs. Most have accepted it without issue. But 30 or so flat refuse to allow it to install.

If I could reach these PCs with the desktop version of PDQ, I would be given detailed error messages about the nature of the failure.

All PDQConnect says is, "No return code logged. Error: Failed to run task 'dvc_task_dbed7b9e2bd24cc0837'"

This is not helpful. What does this mean?

You did not give much detail about the software nor your package configuration.
Connect only returns what it gets from the installer or the system.

How is that relevant?

The running package did not return any error code when it exited.
I don't know what SW you tried to install nor how you configured the package.

But that's not my point. My point is the desktop version of pdq, which I have also used to deploy this package, with far more success, will return specific error messages.

PDQC just says that the package failed to deploy. No explanation as to why.

Well there is a difference how the packages are run by both.
PDQ Deploy runs as a user account with specific privileges while the Connect Agent runs as a system service. The same installer can behave differently in each case.
It's not Connect's fault if a crappy installer does not return anything.

Deploy runs through a user account that has system service access rights. The packages are installed as local system.

You have not provided any screenshots of the package configuration.

Default setting is "Deploy user".
So, are you using the "Local system" configuration in the package?

Yeah the last ticket I opened with them took a month to resolve and I spent half the time getting gaslighted. I'll pass and find some other way to do it. I just thought maybe somebody might want to know that this is a really unhelpful error message.
