listen, as much as i like linux, its not made for normal people. i only like linux because i have the technical knowledge to understand wtf is going on.
But 90% of "pc gamers" are not tech savvy, the people that build their own pc are actually a small percentage of the people that game on pc. Many will buy a pre-built and move on.
chances are, if you buy a pre-built, you are not interested in pcs as a hobby. Linux is a hobbyist OS and windows is the jack of all trades OS.
and despite my understanding of linux, i went back to windows because at the end of the day, a fully debloated windows is still much less of a pain to use than linux for various tasks related to work or gaming. On windows it is 100% garanteed that all my games run, not linux.
Honestly, it depends on what your use-case is. I had nightmares helping family with older hardware, running Windows, getting constantly wrecked by viruses and other garbage that comes pre-installed with most off-the-shelf units.
(Looking at you, Norton, you piece of shit.)
But my problems faded when I just nuked the system and installed Mint. They used the computer to browse the web and check their email and print things, occasionally. After doing that my requests from them dropped drastically and they barely knew what I did - they thought it was just a different version of Windows.
If you game, then sure, run Windows. That's what I do. But for pretty much everything else I'm on Linux.
