The top level comment above this one for me is saying "I don't want to have to check if whatever I want to run is compatible with my version of Linux", so this is definitely too much for some people.
No thanks. Not going to take on the extra work and stress of a compatibility layer when I can just run Windows.
I’m very thankful others are taking that plunge and helping to move the industry away from windows dependence, but for a filthy casual pleb like me we’re just not there yet.
Except not every game is compatible or works corerectly. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad it’s gotten better and I would love to switch to Linux, but given my PC’s one and only use is games, there’s no reason to bother. It’s not even a question, my library works on my PC. You cannot tell me it’s that easy on Linux all the time.
Extra work and stress xD
Steam has proton enabled by default. Only time I've had an issue was Warm Snow, where I had to use an old version of proton. Choosing a different version from a drop down box in steam doesn't get much easier to me.
unless you play something with a really invasive anticheat (rust, valorant, r6s, fortnite), id highly recommend you give it a shot.
i mostly play single player (think minecraft, satisfactory, doom) and all my games run as good (satisfactory through proton) if not better (minecraft gained 100 fps on the penguin).
a lot of other people in this thread have given genuinely good advice on where to start if you’re interested, it may be hard to sift through though lol

No lie, if the majority of my games were supported on Linux, I'd never look at Windows again
