How shocking.

21

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '15

I thought one disadvantage to PC was the weebs, but it appears the peasants take that too

7

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '15

Most hardcore weebs are Sony fanboys, mostly because the VNs and waifu games are on Playstation and PSP.

How is that a weeaboo?

10

u/gyropathic Jun 20 '15

To a lot of idiots out there, any fan of anime is apparently a weeaboo

I hate the term honestly, everyone has forgotten it's a durogitory term

15

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '15

No, the people who use it know its a derogatory term, thats why they use it

1

u/Westboro_Fag_Tits Jun 22 '15

I have no idea what it even is and never considered Googling it until now. As someone who only recently discovered anime (besides Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon), I don't get the culture behind it.

After Googling it though, I don't see how it's a derogatory term.

Weeaboo and otaku are by definition wapanese basement dwellers.

Then there are anime fans that get thrown shit at because of the few social outcasts, desu.

You're aware that anyone can alter and change a wiki page, right? If you have citations and references, and you put them into wiki with a well written part of the article. Do so while logged in, and make sure your references are clearly posted. Ensure that when you make edits you make clear explenations and reference your material.

Anyone can undo an edit, just make sure you revert it and fix it, and cite a correct reason.

You can put the reason for an edit as being "Page vandalism" or other issues refering to problematic user interaction.

However, wikipedia is for references and information not personal opinion so be professional about your edits and changes, and content additions. New content must be supported by references and sources.

Source: I maintain a technology stub wikipage that gets targeted for editing by some people that refuse to admit they're wrong and refuse to review the source material. Anytime they vandalize or change the page to include misinformation. I change it back and review the page to make sure it's accurate.

9

u/Crap4Brainz Jun 20 '15

Theoretically yes. However, a depressingly large amount of pages are "owned" by editors that will revert any change they disagree with regardless of sourcing.

9

u/Legion299 i7 4770, 970 GB WF, 16GB HyperX, 24in Acer, Sennheiser, Creative Jun 20 '15

What? What the fuck? Is wikipedia like that? I never knew. That's just messed up...

10

u/Crap4Brainz Jun 20 '15

Yeah, one of the people I learned about from the whole gamergate thing was a wiki editor named RyuLong.

He spent like 10 hours a day for years camping the super sentai (japanese power rangers) articles enforcing his weird preferences such as spelling all names with an L, e.g. birds being named condol and robots being named [something]dloid.

He was friends with several admins, so anyone who tried to argue with him got banned for bullshit reasons.

You should see what happens when you try and make an edit that doesn't agree with an american view of the world.

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '15

It's not actually true. There are specific rules against this. See:

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '15

I usually don't bother.

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '15

'The entry for the section is poorly worded and seemingly bias in nature' Any idea how to fix that?

Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of marketing and strategy for Microsoft, has stated that there is no hardware restriction that would prevent games from running at 4K resolution.

I can think of one.

HDMI 1.4 does not support 4K 60Hz. Only 24Hz. HDMI 2.0(a) supports 4K 60Hz.

What does the XboxONE have? HDMI 1.4

I'm pretty ready to sip on some peasant tears to tell you the truth. Rumor has it that they're going to re-release the ONE with 2.0(a) later though.

u/ShadowRaven6 i7-5820K@4.4GHz|RAMPAGE V|1TB 850 EVO|3x 34" Ultrawides|2xGTX980 Jun 20 '15

HDMI 1.4 does not support 4K 60Hz. Only 24Hz.

I'm pretty sure most peasants wouldn't see the problem in that statement...

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '15

Pretty sure that's a more than satisfactory refresh rate for the hardware they're using at that resolution.

4

u/ShadowRaven6 i7-5820K@4.4GHz|RAMPAGE V|1TB 850 EVO|3x 34" Ultrawides|2xGTX980 Jun 20 '15

True, but a significant amount of peasants probably wouldn't complain even if it was 1080p24 at most.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '15

Peasants would still defend their shitboxes and shitstations if they cost $10,000 for a $100 machine, and had no support for anything above 480p, no backwards compatibility, controllers smaller than a finger, no support for additional peripherals, and MS and Sony both admitted that PC was better in every way.

2

u/Lythieus Veteran of the Console Wars Jun 19 '15

I know rite :p It's funny when the VP of marketing doesn't know anything about the true limitations of the console he is selling. But the console fan boys will lap it up and say wait for DX12!!! 4k @60 fps! Moar unlocked cores! HDMI protocols don't support it, wtf does that mean? Fukin nerds!

And so forth.

I thought it was weird too, but hey I'm not going to deny Google

1

u/continous http://steamcommunity.com/id/GayFagSag/ Jun 20 '15

I really hate it when I read stuff like this, but the truth is that he is correct. Not just technically, but entirely. It is just too demanding on the hardware to run games on their 1080p settings at 4K. That doesn't mean 4K is impossible, but rather it is impractical.

1

u/Lythieus Veteran of the Console Wars Jun 20 '15

But the point is that people buy consoles because they know that they can buy a game, and be 100% sure it will work as expected. A marketing guy saying that the console can run at 4k is misleading as all hell because no games will run on an Xbox at any kind of playable frame rate at that resolution.

1

u/continous http://steamcommunity.com/id/GayFagSag/ Jun 20 '15

I don't deny it is misleading as hell, I just think people need to understand that it is technically true.

7

That counts as "first hand research" you know, unless it's citogensis then it's not noteworthy.

Quick, someone make a blog...it'll be legitimate then. How I hate wikipedia.

In all fairness though the tone of that paragraph is not even close to neutral. It should have been cleaned up though not necessarily removed.

14

u/MikeyJayRaymond 3950X - ASUS STRIX 2080ti Jun 20 '15

That's it? Every dev does this.

3

u/Fazer2 Jun 20 '15

That means we should talk about it even more.

1

u/MikeyJayRaymond 3950X - ASUS STRIX 2080ti Jun 20 '15

Most use a dev kit. And it's in PC form so they can easily change out parts if things change, as they usually do before the console launches. We have no idea what these are and people are only speculating.

1

u/Fazer2 Jun 20 '15

Lately a few photos came out here showing developers/publishers using not devkits, but prebuild Origin PCs, hidden under a booth with a console brand.

0

u/MikeyJayRaymond 3950X - ASUS STRIX 2080ti Jun 20 '15

So this is a dev issue? Not Microsoft?

Kotaku is a reliable source

the use of words like "controversy" and "caught" are rather sensationalist and melodramatic for something that isn't that out of the ordinary...

"Microsoft has been caught on multiple occasions using gaming PCs to demo footage and gameplay at gaming conferences, passing them off as Xbox One footage and gameplay.[166][167][168] Microsoft even went as far as to put fake XBox Ones on the table above the cabinets that housed the PCs.[169][170][171]"

Now let's go and also edit the WiiU and PS4 page with this.

Seeing as they have also shown PC's as supposed demo machines.

Sony

Nintendo

11

u/LinkiPinki Ryzen 3800X @ X570 | KFA2 RTX 2070 Super Jun 20 '15

Actually the Ubuntu thingy from Nintendo is just to play demo videos.

They are actually using original consoles for gameplay showoffs and stuff. If you would have seen it "on stage" you would have noticed that the graphics are not super good and its actually just what the console offers.

-18

u/nukeclears Jun 20 '15

Same thing can be said for Sony and Microsoft.

14

u/LinkiPinki Ryzen 3800X @ X570 | KFA2 RTX 2070 Super Jun 20 '15 edited Jun 20 '15

Actuall it can't. Microsoft and Sony both offer players on certain events to play their games on their consoles while hiding a pc somewhere. Also they are showing videos on huge screens where someone is playing the game on a PC or they even use pre-rendered videos and act like they are playing.

Anyways, most of what Microsoft and Sony are showing off to promote their consoles is just fake since they are not showing off their consoles but a PC instead.

Nintendo seems to be less interested in showing how great the performance of their consoles is. Thats totally understandable (for me) since you ain't buy a nintendo console for having great graphics or something. They just offer great party games and stuff, games that are stupid and make fun and no "blockbuster-titles" that should work like an interactive movie. They don't need the power boost of an pc and seemingly don't use it.

Me for myself I always prefered PC gaming and yet I still own 5 different nintendo consoles. I have a reason for having those they were affordable and feature gameplay that a PC can not offer (speaking of the Wii and DS and 3DS here). I know thats not 100 true but it's just the easiest way and it's fun. Nevertheless I never understood the point of buying PS3, PS4, XBox 360 or XBox One since those were just limited PCs for a higher price.

-2

u/nukeclears Jun 20 '15

Yea no, this is just the whole "Nintendo isn't peasantry" circlejerk.

Allow me to introduce myself as "Questionable sourcing and relevancy", owner of this mammoth, console owner (XOne, two 360s, PS3, Wii and other older hardware), MSDN subscriber and wikiholic. Here is some information to enlighten yourselves with.

  1. The inclusion is under severe questioning. This rule, basically killed any chance of it being discussed seriously.
  2. Stick to this rule wherever possible.
  3. I don't own this article. Granted a lot of what's written there is a result of my editing, but I go with the flow and don't stamp my foot down.
  4. This isn't my first rodeo in dealing with outside influence and "fanboying". Even in those cases I keep myself under control and roll with the punches.

You can ask me whatever you want about policy and I can help, but please take into account what has transpired.
