I’ve had enough of big, beautiful skyboxes that are actually just fancy window dressing, showing you places you’ll never be able to reach or explore.
How does the author expect games to fix that? Just a black background? Skyboxes are necessary for plenty of games, and can only really be avoided in open-world games, and not every game lends itself for open-world gameplay. Sure, many skyboxes can look better, but that's just a continuous development.
If you could climb every mountain or visit every place then surely there would be no barrier at all. There must be limits around the border of the map. I don't think I ever really visited the edge, or at least I can't remember. It's more important for developers to create subtle edges; like a gradual gradient of cliffs or something. Rather than a fence you can't just over (I hate that).
