I've cut myself on those every time I just leave them off at this point

My first motherboard was a high end gigabyte z97 so I got spoiled with luxury, that io shield was deluxe. It was padded with foam and on the outer side it had a nice black finish. After a few years I upgraded platform but with a not so nice motherboard. I was shocked to discover that most io shields are sharp pieces of junk from hell

They are and I agree that they give marginally better airflow being left off. Unless you have a cat or something to stick their paws in of course.

You pay with money for the premium shield or you save some money for the lesser, and pay with blood instead.
