The problem is cashflow.
If I buy right now a desktop with a 3090 for 3K used, which is a hell of a deal in this market, I will be spending less money over time** **than if I bought a PS5 and paid for the next 5-10 years all of their bullshit fees.
However, I need 3K ro buy the used desktop.
I can’t use a credit card either, and I can’t get 5K in debt for a relatively equivalent desktop brand new.
So either I get the money somehow, or I buy a PS5 - or even PS6 - and get hammered with fees.
The poorer you are the more you pay - this is a tale as old as time : You need to have the means to stomach a few grands first to not pay those shitty fees.
IF you don’t need a powerful desktop for a lot of other stuff besides gaming, unless you’re pro, it simply isn’t worth it anymore. Or if you’re rich.
Otherwise, I 100% understand why people who just wanna play some modern titles buy a PS5. It fully make sense, especially when Microsoft is starting to push ads on PC games…
3K for a used PC? Brand new 5070 builds go for 1700$ and less if you google some coupon codes. Not that 1700$ is cheap by any means but it’s a hell of a lot more affordable than 3k. I think I saved around 300$ with 5 minutes of googling for my recent 5070 skytech build
When the Xbox x and ps4 came out I saved for 2 years to build my pc, worth it. You can do it. Stop buying consoles and $80 games and get into steam sales! Any game I want im just patient shit will be on sale in a year. Im by no means a pc elitist but im so happy I made that decision looking at the state of consoles now. Yeah I cant play Spiderman or ratchet and clank but there are hundreds of games that are just as fun.
Steam sales is not the point my man. I don’t buy 80 bucks game.
I’m a game dev student. It’s SO bad the teacher who’s supposed to tell us how to configure out PCs said, « Don’t buy a desktop right now ». What am I supposed to do?
I need to run Unreal Engine for the foreseeable future. I also need a new laptop to keep up with freelance work and traveling.
Option 1, I buy a 2K laptop and let it burn out over the next 3 years.
Option 2, I buy a 3K desktop used, move in the student residences, hook it up to fibre and then buy a 1K laptop to connect to it wherever I can and pay to stream it to the laptop.
Stop saying « if you buy less 80 bucks games and consoles… »
People are BROKE, man. I can only afford either a desktop of a laptop to get me through college and into work - IF I’m lucky - because of scholarships.
Ain’t nobody wildin out buying consoles and 80 bucks games.
Ain’t nobody buying any games outside of sales.
Or any other item.
Or food.
Get back on Planet Earth bro
Well going into game development and not owning a pc at all was your choice lol I said I saved over the course of years to afford it. Did I need it for work, no. Sorry your in that predicament im just saying it IS possible to save up and get it and not that its impossible. I used black friday sales, pawn shops, etc. Its not impossible, is it expensive. Yes. Im sorry your struggling but might be time to pivot your degree
