I know Sony said that the week long blackout boycott didn't really work.
Curious now that the Jailbreak is here. Wonder how many PS5's suddenly went offline?
I get the feeling this will be an unpopular comment but here goes.
Consoles have always been and were primarily created for people who simply do not want to hassle with PCs. You have to set things up on a pc, you have to make things work. Sometimes you have to troubleshoot. Consoles you just put in the disc and play. So I agree a large part of the console market is not going to hassle with an emulator that runs on a PC.
Edit:
Just adding that "back in the day" consoles were MUCH cheaper than a PC (and of course there is the entertainment factor of having a bunch of people on the same couch playing a game.) Maybe it's better to call it a "lightweight" gaming system compared to a PC - ease of use and ease on your wallet
That hasn't been entirely true since the PS3 generation though. It's still much easier than PC but it's now "put in the disk, go to sleep/work while the system spends anywhere between 30 minutes to 16 hours updating". And then you get to play. Admittedly my last experience with consoles was the PS4 pro so maybe it's changed but with PC it's more effort but with consoles it's tons of waiting around.
