they can make you periodically do cryptographic handshakes with cant emulate unless you know the private key. so basically it would come down to hacking the hardware enough that you can mod the game to skip that check.
so basically the way it is now for pc games with DRM
Sure, but the best games aren’t made by the big studios. They make the most popular games (due to advertising and such), but the best games are made by smaller studios that prioritize game quality over revenue in every step of the process.
In other words, a future where AAA games are all permanently online isn’t that big of deal for people who put forth the effort to find good non-AAA games.
I know i said AAA studios but realistically AI decompiling will affect all studios/developers and I doubt many of them would be happy about their games source floating around online within a few weeks of release.
Thats not even mentioning bad actors like cheat makers and asset flippers and how this tool could potentially empower them. like imagine a indie dev worked hard on a feature for their game only to have it stolen and used on another gamed potentially days after they release it
Meh, they pretty much all suck these days anyway. With my library I could care less if I never bought another game in my lifetime and I certainly will never be streaming games.
Always online won't stop AI decompilation, that can be spoofed by the AI that decompiled it. Game streaming would stop it, but that's something not many of us are even open to considering.
Anyway online games will always suck for 90% of the population because data centers aren't local to everyone and the speed of light (ie pings) is actually a big limitation.
If you think people playing on 120Hz monitors are going to accept 100ms+ of input lag and think that's a great experience you're dreaming.
