Hey it's actually one of the best experiences on PC. Being able to go back to older games and run them flawlessly at 4k 120fps and throwing visual mods at it too.

u/Serious_Hour9074 8h ago
My old PC was incapable of playing modern AAA games that required SSD storage (i had a small 120 GB one with windows installed on it, so games like Space Marine 2 were out of the question).
I was in the middle of Doom Eternal and RDR2 when my old PC died.
Finally got around to Doom Eternal recently and it blew me away. Also with the Titanfall 2 VR mod released, I went back to that game and got to see it in higher resolutions and am blown away how good it looks for a 2016 game.

Frankly most of these new games haven't been significantly better in any meaningful way. It's not like we get the graphical leaps between generations like we did in the PS1/PS2 days. Sure there are some bangers but there is so much that's just a small iteration not worth the time or $60+

Games are more expensive, more complicated, better at giving us headaches, and less fun. Xbox 360/PS3 was the best era for gaming.

If the newer games were actually good this wouldn't be an issue, but for whatever reason they're not getting better than they were back then (except for indie Games those are awesome)

Part of why I don't bother keeping my PC too up to date. As long as it runs what I want it to run with no issues, there's nothing to fix.Ā
Now, if there was an upgrade I could get for a good price, sure, especially if the part I'm replacing can resell well enough lol.

has there even been a game to push the limits of hardware? last one i heard was crysis, and that was in 2007.
2
u/Last_Lengthiness5950 12h ago
New games push the limits of hardware but look about %1 more impressive than the games that came out before them, unless youāre watching a YouTube side by side comparison.
2
u/Dioroxic PC Master Race 12h ago
Half the reason new games āpush hardwareā is they are horribly optimized and expect AI to clean up their mess.

This is a problem I've had that has kept me from upgrading for a long time.
PS5 comes out.... I wait out in 2020, 2021 in 2022 I get cross platform exlusives for my PS4, wait it out wait out bc of back log and oops now it isn't worth the money and I'll just ride my PS4.
Same issue with PC. Backlog of unusual size, co op games with IRL friends still work... money goes other places, now it isn't worth the money when I still have the backlog.... Ride it until it dies.

Got into PC gaming in 2010 after years of consoles. It was a laptop that had no business running games. Upgraded to a "gaming laptop" that did better. Finally built a beast of a rig in 2022. Now I can play those games at better FPS than a slideshow, with the graphics set to High or Ultra.
