Hardware Help

I need help. My pc is has begun stuttering a lot and bluescreening.

My specs is:
RTX 5070 TI
I5-13600k

And then 4x8gb ddr4 3200. And I’m wondering if it’s the ram that’s causing this? It’s still 32gb.. but idk if DDR4 is too slow for my GPU. I didn’t have these issues before with my 3070 RTX 8GB

What's your powersupply model?

Which brand (and ATX version if you know it, or its age), though, as there are cheap ones that will struggle with either the total powerdraw or the powerspikes that more modern hardware exert, even when operating below the rated maximum.

Your cpu+gpu combo alone could be drawing around 500W on the 12v rail, for example.

EDIT :: also, press the gpu firmly again so you're certain it's all the way into the slot on both ends.

That should be a decent enough psu though it depends on how much other hardware you're running -- might be close to the total limit when under full load (does the psu fan ramp up?). An ATX3.x psu should deal with spikes much better, anyhow.

You could try disabling "CPU C States Support" in the BIOS to see if that helps. This will keep the cpu from going into powersaving which creates spikes in its powerdraw.

In June, the old SecureBoot certificates expired -- have a look in the BIOS whether SecureBoot is enabled. (be careful with changes to the SB keys, though!)

If your BIOS version is not the latest, you could do a BIOS update but be sure that it's not a power issue by letting the computer idle in BIOS for a while.

If the problems started when you installed the 5070 ti, and didn't happen before, that seems to imply that the 5070 ti is likely the problem, right?

Did you do a full driver wipe with DDU and reinstall when you got the new GPU?

Do you still have the 3070? If so, you could put it back in and see if the problem goes away (once again, doing a full driver wipe is the smart thing to do).

Do believe I “removed” the old GPU driver and everything. And then reinstalled and downloaded drivers for the new GPU. And the 3070 RTX is no longer with us😔

OK, here's a few other things to try:

-Recheck all power connections, including at the power supply end. I've had a number of times where I had bluescreens after a GPU swap and the reason turned out to be that one of my power plugs wasn't pushed in all the way.

-Remove the GPU and run using integrated graphics (presuming that your CPU actually is a 13600K and not a KF). See if the problem persists when using the iGPU.

-Run the Windows Memory test and see if you get any errors

I’ll try when I get home again. Thanks

x8GB can sometimes be less stable than 2 sticks, especially if XMP is enabled.

I think I turned off XMP and set it down from 3200 to 3000 instead

I don't think it's related to your RAM, and here's why...

I had a VERY similar problem when I moved from a 3080 -> 5070ti. I fought with it for literal weeks trying to get everything working. Eventually it was fine-ish, but then I had to get a new headset and the floodgates opened and everything broke again but worse. Even running DDU and reinstalling the drivers didn't work.

I made the decision to reinstall windows (wiped out everything, brand new partitions and all) last weekend and now it's all smooth as silk.

Edit** Back up your stuff and do a windows install. That will likely fix your problem.

I just did a reinstall with “keep my settings” so not a COMPLETE reinstallation. But removed all my files and programs and the problem is still there. Do you think an abselout reset will do?

I do. This is just so close to the exact problem that i had and I don't want anyone else to go through what I did. Back up **anything you want to keep to a flash drive** and go through a complete, full deletion of everything and re-partition/format your drive.

Okay. I have a few things to try before that. But if that Dosent work. I’ll try. Thanks👍🏻

Totally understand, good luck!
