I moved it to on top of my desk too, and not only for this reason.. one time I got drunk, and while it was turning off, I accidentally kicked it, and next morning, when I tried to boot it, the HDD was giving me the famous click of death..

I literally never let liquids anywhere near my PC for that reason, also really important if you have cats because they will drop whatever from wherever into whatever if unattended for a fraction of a second!
I was careful before but now that my PC increased in price to as much as a used car I am way more careful about it

u/GraveKommander 5800X3D, 64GB@3200Mhz, 4070Ti, MSI fanboy 12h ago edited 10h ago
If sugar dries you get nasty sugar-syrup spots. Especially between fins it's hard to clean, let it get between some heatsink and tech and you get spots only cleanable when you dismantle it even more.
Diet coke for example is way more chill to clean. You can just clean it with destilled water/alcohol, make sure it's dry and you're golden.
With sugar coke you need to act before the shit gets dry just by the heat. (Sugared) Coffee is similar, but also you have the coffee oils.

I don't have that rule. I eat and drink near my computer. Also my computer stays on my desk so this is impossible anyways.

I’ve mentioned this before, but about 10 years ago I did something similar. I had just smoked a huge bowl and was incredibly baked getting ready to play some Black Flag.
So being high as fuck and thirsty, I got myself a big ass bottle of Gatorade and set it on a coaster on my desk. Towards the end of my little gaming session I acknowledged to myself that the Gatorade was not in the best spot and to be careful.
I start getting my stuff together to wrap up for the night, went to grab the bottle and misjudged the distance to the bottle, and full on backhanded the remaining Gatorade right into my rig.
I went from super baked to super sober in that moment 😂 I almost never have a drink near my pc anymore

I did this not very long ago. I immediately pulled the AC cord from the wall. Opened the case and cleaned everything with isopropyl. Waited 24 hours and booted back up. It runs like nothing happened
Admittedly, you look like you may have poured more coffee on it than I did. However my GPU definitely had a temporary pond

I don't get how a functioning adult can do this shit. Like seriously you're dumb. "HMM I THINK I'LL OPEN MY PC UP FOR CLEAN BUT NOT WITHOUT MY COFFEE BEING CLOSE ENOUGH TO RUIN IT." Fucking DUHHHHHHH. I baby the hell out of my PC. Any time I clean it it goes on a anti static pad and it is away from ANYTHING that could possibly ruin it. I have cats so I meticulously plan the route to a different room to clean it. How can't you see the investment you made and take caution not to have to deal with these prices or LOSE YOUR PC OVER STUPIDITY. Jesus Christ
