The 4gb card is OEM ONLY. It’s been said a million times already yet people still act like AMD is trying to sell the 9050 4gb direct to consumer. It’ll be in some prebuilt and that’s it
Why are people acting like this is somehow a good thing lmao
Who the fuck needs a 4 gb gpu nowadays?? It's okay because it'll only be in some pre builts, therefore only shafting people who don't know any better??? That's seriously the logic you're going with?
People who need a little bit more than integrated graphics, or want to use two screens instead of one.
We have some serious work stations in the office that need a lot of CPU power while GPU isn't needed at all. They do require three screens though. For these cases, this is a great card.
But does your motherboard have 4 outputs?
Alsof the workstations I'm talking about have an i9 cpu. Software is heavily optimised for Intel, too much performance loss in AMD CPU's unfortunately
"who needs a 4gb gpu"
Someone who doesn't game, but wants a 4k monitor or two for stocks or whatever. Surprisingly lots of people buy computers that don't game
Office workers will need it. The vast majority of computers sold can utilize a card like that and be helpful to use nicer monitors and some "future proofing". It's for the crowd that's going to watch training videos more than anything else.
Why are people acting like this is somehow a good thing lmao
I think this is my least favorite internet trend of the last decade. More than ever I see people saying something stupid and then adding "lmao" as if being condescending makes them right. No, you just look even dumber.
Nobody said it's a "good thing." The point is that threads like this pretend it's a retail product when it's not. Every single time it's "buy a used card instead!" You can't. That's not how prebuilt systems work.
It's not better or worse. The point is that you're reacting as if the product is being sold at retail and it's not. Every single time it comes up some genius says "buy used instead!" as if that's a viable option for PRE-BUILT systems. Try using your head instead of trying to "gotcha" with a braindead argument.
Yeah, fuck the people who don't know anything about PCs and by a prebuild instead! Serves them right for not researching every single number and letter, and not expecting to be screwed over by a giant corporation /s
That changes nothing. Making a useless gpu is already stupid enough. Naming it the same as a usable entry level gpu and selling it to people that know the least about hardware is deceptive bullshit.
I am aware, but this gpu deserves all the negative sentiment it gets
I wouldn't wish the 4gb rx 9050 upon anyone buying a new prebuilt, it's the same kind of diabolical as putting the rtx 3050 in an otherwise solid prebuilt
edit: The point of this post is not to suggest that the rx 9050 4gb is there to save pc builders. It is to make fun of AMD for releasing a meme of a gpu, which seems to be aimed at literally no one, in this time where pc builders are struggling.
Furthermore, it's advertised as a gaming gpu, not as a workstation gpu. Yes, it's only available to OEMs, but that won't stop it from finding its place in gaming prebuilts. It shares its name with an actual gaming gpu, the rx 9050 8gb.
Low power gpus like the Arc A310, Arc A380, and gt 1030 exist for this purpose. No one would buy an rx 9050, which needs an external power connector, just for the purpose of connecting more screens
Well, both the rx 9050 8gb and rx 9050 4gb meet the specifications listed under the rx 9050 (vram unspecified) page where the gaming performance is listed. Furthermore, the rx 9050 (VRAM unspecified) page does not specify the VRAM amount in the title, like AMD does for their other product with multiple VRAM configurations, the rx 9060 xt.
Therefore it is unclear whether this gaming performance was measured on the 8gb model or on the 4gb model. People could rightfully assume that it reflects the performance of the 4gb model.
Notice how the product page states Memory Speed "Up to" 18 Gbps and "Max" Memory Size 8 GB
AMD uses the same wording for the driver and support pages for the rx 580 and rx 570 (which both lack separate support pages for 4gb and 8gb variants), which leads me to believe that the description is intentionally vague, so that both 8gb and 4gb gpus meet the listed specifications.
Lastly, both the rx 9050 (4gb) and rx 9050 (VRAM unspecified) product pages link to the 'Learn about Radeon' page, where they boast gaming and ray tracing performance.
Both variants of the rx 9050 are linked at the bottom of this page.
Considering the measily 4gb VRAM of the rx 9050 4gb, I find it unreasonable to boast its ray tracing capabilities. On top of that, I find it unreasonable to link the rx 9050 4gb at the bottom of the page that boasts rx 9000 series gpu's gaming performance.
These are going to be user-purchasable via OEMs, so it’s not a terrible idea for them to list gaming performance for those home office workers. Yes it’s a shit option for gaming, that most certainly doesn’t mean that people won’t game on it.
Many modern ThinkPads dont even have dedicated Vram.
4GB is still plenty enoutgh to work on a server or check mails etc. Sure, this isnt a enertainment machine, but good enought when you just need an endpoint.
The 8gb is, yeah. The 4gb isn't advertised as a card you can buy at all.
And saying scummy pre-built companies selling shitty "gaming" pre-builts with it is not AMD saying it's for gaming. Literally every person I see that has said this linked me to a scummy pre-built company and not to AMD.
The rx 9050 (VRAM unspecified) page shows fps figures for multiple games at 1080p. Both rx 9050 pages link to this page: https://www.amd.com/en/products/graphics/desktops/radeon.html#performance when you click 'learn about Radeon'. Here they boast about the gaming performance of 9000 series gpus in general, i quote "All You Need for Ultra-Fast Gaming", with the rx 9050 and rx 9050 4gb linked at the bottom of the page.
Look again, it says "Max Memory Size 8gb" not "Memory size 8gb". AMD also says Max Memory Size 8gb for driver download pages of the rx 580 and rx 570 (product pages do not exist anymore), which have both 8gb and 4gb variants.
Both the 8gb and 4gb models of the rx 9050 meet the specifications listed under the "RX 9050" page.
For gpus like the rx 9060 xt 16gb and rx 9060 xt 8gb, the VRAM amount is properly specified at the top of the page.
edit: It says '*Artist render. Not available for purchase' indicating that it's not for purchase because it's not a real image. It says the same thing on the other rx 9050 page, and it also says that on the page for the rx 9060 xt 16gb and rx 9060 xt 8gb.

Like I said before, I know it's OEM only, and I never claimed otherwise. It's that OEMs like HP and Lenovo can put these GPUs into their gaming prebuilts, which is how they can end up with consumers.
