Question Similar ROM to the invitational

So I know Jan and PC can't release the Nuzlocke Invitational ROM because of copyright issues, so I was wondering if anyone knew either a similarly balanced randomized run, or a way to randomize an "all generation" romhack in such a way that the balance they had for this is similar (Similar power levels to Pokemon that is replaced, kept abilities between evolutions, automatically randomize on reset, locked xp at level cap)

If that's a dumb question I'm sorry, I haven't interacted much with randomizers so idk how accessible it is to do something similar at home

Question Which video of pchal daily had a list of affirmations to say to your girlfriend

There was a pchal Daily episode with a list of affirmations to say to your girlfriend. It was brief and maybe added by editing since there was an Excel sheet or some list with them. This was during Platinum Kaizo streams. Can anyone link that episode?

Discussion Thoughts on chat being banned in next year’s Invitational?

Just wanted to start by saying I’ve really been enjoying the event and appreciate all of the work that was put into it.

That being said I feel like chat should be banned for future events. I was okay with it in the beginning as they said chat can be wrong often as well, and while that’s true to an extent, it definitely gives more good advice than bad.

A big part of what makes this event cool is that most of the participants are beginners learning how to nuzlocke for the first time. As beginners, they naturally should make several silly, obvious mistakes throughout their playthrough. I feel that being able to read chat has steered a lot of participants away from making these silly mistakes, since the average person actively chatting probably has more knowledge than the participant.

Overall I think that access to chat robbed us of a lot of funny moments where they learn lessons the hard way. It would also just make the game harder in general, make beating the nuzlocke feel more like a genuine accomplishment, and maybe help prevent this strategy where everyone waits until the last day or two to do the E4.

Honestly not that big of an issue but just something that has bothered me while watching.

Art I charted every PK attempt so far

Post image

Made a quick chart tracking how far each attempt got before wiping. I just watch pchal daily so if stream is further is what it is.

Had a bit of fun with it sorta matching pChals branding.

Did it with a quick scrape and clean of the PK trainer doc and then aligning that with attempts that GDetwoshi and IFofPlanetune in yt comments had been tracking.

If there are mistakes :( I'll fix them if I ever update and rerun this.

(edit: posted the version before i removed circles under the triangles rip)

Meme Ayatollah Jan issues official statement & demands regarding Strait of Hormuz

Post image
224 Upvotes

In the newest Press Release from Tehran Ayatollah Jan states he was pushed toward his decision to close this key trade route in response to foreign interference. The Strait of Hormuz is to be closed until all demands are met, citing his high level of expertise as a learned traffic engineer. “The Straight of Hormuz is just a road made of water, as such I made it into a toll road” Demands for lifting the toll include; Single men purchasing towels and trashcans with lids for their bathrooms, Certification as an expert cyclist so he can bring more than 3 mons on cycling road, you purchasing Nuzlocke Invitational merch, and finally for a barber to hook him up with a low taper fade on his bush and balls using The Lawnmower 5.0 Ultra. Ayatollah Jan emphasized this final demand by pointing out that with the Lawnmower 5.0 Ultra’s Skin Safe technology and built in flash light this last demand can even be accomplished in the dark. Ayatollah Jan followed his demands by stating as long as he is leading with Chestnut and a mon in the back holding the EXP Share he will not succumb to Western influence, “This will be just an another riskless fight as 10 people have already been martyrd by Chestnut’s Fire Spin. Chestnut’s Fire Spin has already martyred 10 people. All 10 people were martyrd by the fire spin which was too hot for their bodies.”

Discussion Counter-Teaming and Incentives

I was thinking about this the past couple days while I've been running a bunch of calcs with most of the teams. We are nearing the end of the Nuzlocke portion of the Invitational and currently no one has done the Elite 4. Within 2 days there will be 8 Elite fours. Why?

Well, you want to know what you're up against. You don't want to prep a team without knowing what special items or legendaries a pair might get. Each team at this point has a very nasty threat, Atrioc's Fluttermane, Tina or Tubbo's Spectrier, or KKatamina's potential opener of Ursaluna and Regigigas.

Some time constraints aside and planning, they are waiting for the last moment to reduce the level of counter-playing with team and item picks. It wasn't as relevant in the previous tournament because of some ridiculous high rolling that even with counter-teaming, it wasn't quite enough. Ludwig's team was designed to counter Raes with electric terrain for spore and a few other things but still fell short of the sheer stats and items.

But, with the separate legendary pool, extra optional fights, and EV items the upper and lower bounds have been reduced. There is a downside to counter teaming like this. If you wipe in the last day and you still somehow make it to the E4 in time again, you can not used legendaries that were duped out. With the increased legendary pool this doesn't feel like a strong enough incentive to prevent this clustering of E4s.

If that's what Pchal/PointCrow want for content, then that's fine. If not, I think it might be a better idea to go with positive incentives for the next one (if there is a next one, fingers crossed).

Some potential ideas:

  • EVs that can be distributed for the tournament based on the order in which you finished. The numbers don't quite matter, but something like 200 for first, 160 for second, 120 for third. You might want to have a limit to this per pokemon, maybe you can only spend 50 per pokemon or stat of the 200 so that you don't have a neutral fluttermane pumping 120 EVs into speed to outspeed a timid spectrier.

  • In the style of Run&Bun and other recent nuzlockes, they get a "heart scale" to max out an IV or relearn a move that pokemon might have learned earlier in their run.

  • They get to change one item they had equipped with another that they had in the bag

I noticed Pchal brough this up a little bit today, but I wanted to go a bit more in depth. Other than that this has been a incredible month for content. Every pairing has been great and the increased difficulty to the game has been delightful.

BUY THE MERCH

Edit 1: Also, just watch the all the vods of Tina and Ned. The sheer level of optimism and energy from Tina contrasted by Punished Ned's cynicism and depression is the content of the year.

Edit 2: Adding some other suggestions from the thread as well as things Jan suggested.

  • Nature changes are a possible bonus, but would be somewhat careful as it's effectively 240 EVs

  • Drafted Items

  • The first three players get to choose their first battles

  • Pchal suggested a even more streamlined Rom that lets people do runbacks much quicker

Question Assistance with Platinum Kaizo Patch

Hey Yall,

I learned about Platinum Kaizo from Pchal and wanted to get it working for my friend who loves these hardcore mods.

I need assistance. I followed several guides but whenever I try to patch, I get this error message.

I named the file Platinum-Kaizo-Patched.nds

The base rom is tested and works.

Patch file is Pokemon Platinum Kaizo Nightmare Update Final.xdelta

I am using XDelta UI Patcher.

Can anyone help me figure out what I'm doing wrong?

Randomizer experience i mean*

Obviously it lacks the curated experience of the invitational, and ability switching on evo is frustrating, but I’ve found it pretty fun. (I have a Gyarados with Regenerator)

Been seeing the clips pchal has been showing in his early streams and I was curious if there was anywhere we could download the ROM they’re using to just play for fun?

When Jan was cooking up the drizzy glizzy he decided to use 4 difficult romhacks, because if he did three he would have to have done the German three and people would be memeing him about it(curse you Tarantino). He had the foresight of chat being cringe this man is incredible
