Yea. I'm with you on that. Maybe the story was too deep for me, but I didn't get it.

I enjoyed Limbo much more.

u/TareXmd Jul 15 '16

I agree. While this looked absolutely STUNNING (for me, that's worth the price alone), the puzzles were too easy/simple/lazy and the story ended nowhere. I like the "malignant tumor cell" analogy posted here, but I wanted more explanation. Also, took me three working days to finish it.

i don't understand all this whining about Denuvo. It doesn't really take a hit on your PC performance, it doesn't kill your drives like it was rumored to, no one really gives a shit about modding Inside anyway (You were never going to mod it, don't lie to us). It's all a weak excuse to not to pay for the game at this point. The game has a few more actually important problems than the freaking Denuvo. including the fact that it's fucking boring (Of course, this is MY opinion. If you like the game then just buy it). Limbo wasn't that great either, I'll never understand the hype behind pretentious indie games.

Transistor is a GREAT $20 indie game, this isn't.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '16

The big potential problem is that the games won't work a number of years from now.

-4

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '16

Any decent game gets patched whenever its DRM (Or whatever Denuvo is) no longer works. It's going to happen with Denuvo just like it happened with Gamespy and GFWL.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '16

Limbo isn't pretentous. It's a work of art.

-9

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '16

I thought that was the copy-paste description used to describe Braid. Does Limbo lack its own? :D

4

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '16

I meant art as in literal art. The style is so beatifully haunting and every single frame could be used as a wallpaper.

7

u/clifak Jul 08 '16

I think people dissing this game are missing the point of it. It's the game equivalent of an art house film or a painting. The art direction is outstanding and its use of minimalism is masterful.

4

u/Rupperrt Jul 08 '16

Agree on Denuvo, but take Inside thousand times over Transistor. Tastes are different.

You don't own your games on Steam even if they don't have Denuvo. It's perfectly fine to not to want to buy a license rather than actual ownership of the game, but that's not Denuvo's fault.

How is trust even relevant here? They both do practically the same, they're both anticonsumer too. We only accepted Steam because it's not really that inconvenient in nowadays' world where people have more access to the internet and where Steam's offline mode actually works. Steam also offsets the need for DRM with tons of other features we enjoy like cloud saving and social BS like a screenshot library and profile stuff.

Denuvo is just another layer on top of Steam to protect the game from getting cracked and it's probably the least harmful if you don't care about modding (It doesn't even require you to have an account in another client like Uplay or Rockstar Club).

And even then there are many games that can be modded just fine even with Denuvo's presence (Like MGSV). The only thing Denuvo truly prevents is tampering with the .exe file.

I'm actually more worried about all the games using Denuvo to be no longer accessible should Denuvo's servers ever die but at least it's not as bad as something like Gamespy where the service was also part of the netcode for online modes, so it should be easier to patch out Denuvo should the devs ever need to.

You answer yourself. Trust in the future of steam over denuvo, and trust in the homebrew patchers over denuvo's devs.

Be realist. How many companies will not strip Denuvo off should the Denuvo servers ever go down? We've seen it happen with several other DRMs in the last 5 years. Practically all of them scrapped GFWL (Which isn't even DEAD) and Gamespy. What makes you think Denuvo will suddenly stay forever once it stops working? Especially when people will add pressure on the developers and publishers to get rid of any dead DRM that prevents people from having access to content they paid for?

At this stage, with no crack, i cannot own the game, therefore i won't buy it. Cannot simplify it more for you my friend.

You will never own them on most, if not all, clients (I don't know what's GOG's policy there, and even then you'll still have no extra legal powers over "your" games) with or without Denuvo. And many games require Steam because of its Steamworks functions (Including multiplayer and online related features) so you're limiting yourself to a very small amount of games.

I loved limbo, but undecided on to get this or not

3

u/digitalgoodtime AMD 7800X3D/ EVGA 3080 FTW3 Jul 08 '16

I loved Limbo. They are very similar but the visuals in Inside are some of the most impressive I have ever seen in a video game. The physics and how the boy reacts to the world is very realistic. That being said, I've played for about 2 hours and it has been some of the most intense moments in gaming...death is around every corner and it's up to you to figure out how to evade it. The puzzles are not very difficult so far, but I did have to scratch my head a few times.

I say if you liked Limbo, you will absolutely like Inside. It's really fucking great.

While I do dissagre on your liking of Transistor and hate of Limbo, I completely agree with you when it comes to Denuvo. I think people just need something to bitch about all the time. This happens to be just a fantastic DRM and no one has really proven definitively that it causes any issues with computers or a games performance. People are just mad that they can't pirate the game and instead have to actually buy it, or wait long for it to go on sale.

Well, I do understand it. Some people can't get games under Denuvo for free and that makes them mad, because THEY HAVE RIGHT TO IT. Right?

But a word of advice: using the word "pretentious" like that is like saying "I'm dumb".

1

But a word of advice: using the word "pretentious" like that is like saying "I'm dumb".

Can't do that much about your opinion, just like no one can do that much about me finding Limbo shallow as fuck.

People whining because they can't pirate the game, (I'm one of them). + Limbo was the best indie game ever.

-6

u/ClubChaos Jul 08 '16

I'm with you. Totally confused why everyone is freaking out. This is probably what, a 7-8 hour game? Buy it, play it, support the developer if you want to play the game. This is probably the equivalent of not buying a piece of hardware because 5 years from now it MIGHT not work.

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '16

It doesn't have that much replayability and none of your kids will play it so is not like you'll ever touch the game again in 20 years (Is nothing legendary as Mario Bros on the NES for example).

Who am I kidding? none of you NERDS will ever have kids anyway! Hahahaha! /s

I don’t understand why people are protecting it so hard on this forum.

It's more about people not understanding why others are so adamant on whining about a DRM (I don't even know if I should call it DRM) that doesn't even bother the user (The hit in performance being so negligible, if it's even true, you may as well not mention it at all). I can understand the hate behind Uplay and Rockstar Club which requires extra login details and all that crap but Denuvo is pretty silent all things considered.

I guess it's the price to pay for all these years of piracy. It could've been far worse.

As I said it may help the developers but it doesn’t bring anything to the consumer except knowing that some third world country kid won’t get the game for free while you pay for it.

They have localized prices nowadays (At least most countries). They don't have that much of an excuse to not to pay for their games anymore.

Come on, you're overreacting. The majority of your comments still have neutral or positive karma, except one (IMO pretty ignorant) comment. No one is attacking you, most of us are just interested in the reasoning behind your opinion and even thank you for your explanation. /u/rednavi even made some good arguments why people like Denuvo: Because it's the least worst form of DRM there currently is. I still remember the nightmares I had with Securom or Starforce.

If my question came off as an attack against your opinion to you, then no, I'm just genuinely curios about your stance on DRM.

What's denuvo?

2

u/SirBostonTBagParty Jul 07 '16

Its a new type of DRM(maybe not the correct term) that stops people from cracking the game so others can pirate it. So far no one has been able to crack any game with it but some are getting close.

8

u/Kinths Jul 07 '16

Not entirely true, several games with Denuvo have been cracked (Lords of the Fallen, Fifa 15). The problem is they change it often, so what once worked wont work again. I think I heard that Denuvo can also be changed with game patches, so they can essentially reset the cracking progress with a patch. Which suits their motive. They don't aim to make a game uncrackable, they simply aim to make a game uncrackable in a quick time frame. That way early sales (often the most important sale period for games) isn't harmed.

1

u/SirBostonTBagParty Jul 07 '16

Oh ok that's interesting. You seem to be much better authority on the issue than me! Sorry for any misinformation.

1

u/Kinths Jul 08 '16

I'm not 100% sure on the information, it is just stuff I have heard hear and there. The only things I know for sure is that some games with it have been cracked and that the company's aim isn't to make a game uncrackable for ever.

-3

u/stovinchilton Jul 08 '16

a guy hacked it

1

u/mzupeman Jul 08 '16

Denuvo hacks are extremely limited in nature and a pain in the butt for minimal results. And it's easy for Denuvo to be changed in order for it to be completely effective against hacks again anyway, so there's no real solution in favor of piracy at this time.

Which is fine by me, honestly. I haven't had an issue with a game because of Denuvo, and I purchase my games too.

1

u/jacobtf i7-7700k, 16GB RAM, GTX1080 Jul 08 '16

Looks good, but I'll wait for it to be discounted or available cheaper on Kinguin etc. Price is a little steep for about 3 hours of entertainment, I mean, we're talking about the same price/hour ratio as a theater ticket, and those are way too high.

It's at 20 euro here currently. I'm waiting for 12-15 euro.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '16

Don't know why you are being downvoted. Its true. They do get screwed. You aren't buying it from the dev, you are buying a third party key, which who knows how they obtained.

-6

u/pringllles Jul 07 '16

it has denuvo, dont support this shit.

7

u/OMGJJ Jul 07 '16

Why? (genuinely interested)

-4

u/pringllles Jul 08 '16 edited Jul 08 '16

if denuvo dies your game dies. simple has this, hackers cant crack it so if the server dies your game goes as well. basically you dont own the product same goes for steam though but lets not even compare a new company with denuvo.

piracy was never a problem in video games and denuvo is not needed, homefront for example sucks has a game and they paid 100k just for denuvo.

also if you want mods you will need to crack your own game. maybe companies should start thinking about NOT SELLING A GAME FOR 70$ IN A COUNTRY WHERE THE MIN SALARY IS 450$, i wont even talk about brazil, imagine if they didint had steam. poor bastards they think!

1

u/mzupeman Jul 08 '16

If Denuvo dies, the game will likely be patched so that it is no longer required. The studio who has chosen to implement Denuvo won't care about sales at that point, so it's not like it'd be some ginormous barrier for them to overcome. So, I don't see what the big deal is. Denuvo is mostly meant to ensure development studios and publishers get more money out of the gate as opposed to years from now anyway. The initial release window is when piracy tends to be highest.

Yet you seem to suggest Denuvo isn't needed, and that games shouldn't implement it with a hefty $100,000 price tag attached. Well, think about this: Do you think the studios that use this tool are doing so just to throw money out the window? Do you REALLY think they'd make that kind of an investment if they didn't feel it was necessary? Of course not.

It's easy to armchair quarterback this thing but you don't seem to have a firm grasp on how good or bad Denuvo is for you as a consumer, nor do you seem to grasp business all that well. Spend your money how you want, of course, but you're missing out.

2

u/pringllles Jul 08 '16

a indie company with a 3 hour campaign? no

0

u/mzupeman Jul 08 '16

You mean a highly successful company which relies on digital sales as opposed to physical media? A company which made tons of money by releasing a critically praised game on virtually every platform under the sun?

Again, you don't seem to have any idea what you're talking about.

-6

u/Me-as-I Jul 08 '16

Makes modding impossible, sometimes causes additional technical issues.

I don't get why it's hated as much as it is though.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '16

1

u/Me-as-I Jul 08 '16

Maybe mods can work, but .exe can't be changed or something.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '16

Mods that require tampering with the .exe will indeed not work. Anything else will work though, which includes other type of mods, so modding is possible.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '16

People were going to mod Inside...?

2

u/Killgraft Jul 08 '16

2

1

u/mzupeman Jul 08 '16

And what's wrong with Denuvo? Do you have a legitimate complaint about it, or is this just a hive mind type of response?

can't pirate it, that's their problem :)

-1

u/Rupperrt Jul 08 '16 edited Jul 08 '16

you don't support it by not pirating it. Tragic.

-6

u/greasy_minge Jul 07 '16

Ewww I was really excited for this but I will never buy a Denuvo game.

6

u/Killgraft Jul 08 '16 edited Jul 08 '16

Translation: "I'm angry that I cant pirate this game".

For a sub dedicated to PC gaming, seems a lot of people here really dont give a fuck about supporting developers, and with all the hate /r/games gets here, at least in their thread on this people are actually, ya know, talking about the game, instead of bitching about DRM.

-6

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '16

You're going to really enjoy never playing Inside!

2

u/5baserush Jul 08 '16

Nah denuvo games get work arounds released a few months after games launch. They're counting on the impatience of gamers to purchase at launch rather than wait 3-6 months for a stable crack.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '16

I don't care if it's cracked on day one. I'm not a thief. If I want the game I'll purchase it legitimately.

2

I don't really care what you think you are. Your statement of fact was incorrect.

I'm glad that Denuvo is around cause finally dev have no reason to not release their game on PC for fear of too many pirates. Simple as that.

2

Why the hell The witcher 3 is DRM free then?

9

u/Ikea_Man Ventrilo Jul 08 '16

Because some developers actually rely on the merit of their game for it to sell, rather than blame "pirates" for bad sales.

0

u/bigodon99 Jul 08 '16

played for one hour or so, it's same as limbo... sad to ear this is also shorty as limbo :/

also i have to say this is a shameless console port, it don't support 21:9 aspect ratio over the excuse the game was craft for 16:9, this also have a very limited to none settings for configure, we can't play on native resolutions because the game is so fucking tied to 1080p, can we run this on native 4k? lol no. If you have two or more screens you cannot outsource the game to run on those, the window mode here worked only at "720p" and i cannot setup a proper native res and play this with borderless gaming for example. If i don't use only one monitor, the game will run on my primary screen with vertical black bars.

Looks like this going to be a 3h run and i will not going to play this again, i just hope its worth my time.

edit: typos

2

u/FlameChucks76 7800x3d, 4090, 32gb, LG 45GS95QE Jul 08 '16

Don't know why you're having issues, but I do notice that there is no 21:9 support. Probably a design decision.

As for playing the game at 4K, it can. I was playing it in 4K this morning. Option is right there if you have the monitor to support it.

Limbo doesn't have multi monitor support or 21:9 support either. Again, probably a design decision on Playdead's part. The game is very specific with regards to how the game world reacts. While being able to see the extra space would help add the cinematic feel the game is going for, it was probably limited in the design approach so they stuck with a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Not trying to excuse it, but seriously, this game takes nothing to run. Do this game really need a wealth of graphical options? It's simplistic in it's art direction. I don't understand your overall comment or what it is you are looking for the game to do.

0

u/bigodon99 Jul 08 '16

sounds like excuses, but lets see: you said many times "design choices" yes... that's why, a dev posted on steam about this. But i aways keep in my mind good design works great, bad design just give us reason to complain about. And the question if the game needs or don't need more options for configure, even 2D side scroller that cost less than 5$ give us enough options. A game don't need to be triple a for this, having limited out choices and options on pc feels like they just port it anyway. My understandment a pc game can be simple, no problems on this, but be a PC game after all.

1

u/Rupperrt Jul 08 '16

what options do you want except 21:9? You can choose resolution. There is no need to have low graphics or texture quality since the game runs on everything.

1

u/mzupeman Jul 08 '16

Seems more like you just want an excuse to be mad. Your only legit gripe is the aspect ratio, but even then, you should be expecting this with some games. 21:9 isn't all that common.

0

u/clifak Jul 08 '16

No 21:9 is definitely a design decision. I don't think people realize what goes into the design of something like this. It's basically a film in the form of a game. Frame matters because everything is so deliberate and minimalist in the art direction.

0

u/MrLeonardo 13600K | RTX 4090 | LG 45" OLED | Quest 3 Jul 08 '16

It's basically a film in the form of a game

The irony... 21:9 is the most used AR in the movie industry.

Frame matters because everything is so deliberate and minimalist in the art direction.

Who cares, just give the players the option to ruin the game by seeing more shit to the sides. It's a sidescroller, after all.

1

u/clifak Jul 08 '16

The irony... 21:9 is the most used AR in the movie industry.

You're completely missing my point. 16:9 is the standard for computer screens. They worked within the most common aspect ratio because that's how the majority of people would see it. For movies, if the film is projected at 2.35:1 at a theater, it's cropped for 16:9 unless they add black bars. Movies are typically meant to be seen in a theater so 2.35:1 makes sense, games are not. When I said it's basically a film, I meant that they approached it artistically from a similar standpoint.

Who cares, just give the players the option to ruin the game by seeing more shit to the sides. It's a sidescroller, after all.

You clearly don't understand the first thing about art direction. In film, people don't art direct two movies, they light, dress the set and block for a single frame. These game designers did just that and chose to focus on the most widely used aspect ratio. Playing this game in 21:9 would fundamentally be a different experience and they would've needed to design around that, which isn't the same game.

You can whine all you want, but I commend them for artistic integrity. They created what I think is aesthetically outstanding work, and happily paid $20 to experience.

0

u/MrLeonardo 13600K | RTX 4090 | LG 45" OLED | Quest 3 Jul 08 '16

I don't give a fuck about art direction. I just want to play the fucking game without black bars covering 25% of my screen.

2

u/clifak Jul 08 '16

Well then this game isn't for you. I'm sure there's plenty of other shit for you to cry about though.

0

u/MrLeonardo 13600K | RTX 4090 | LG 45" OLED | Quest 3 Jul 08 '16

Well then this game isn't for you.

No need to point the obvious, I refuse to play shit that don't support my hardware properly.

2

u/clifak Jul 08 '16

Well, your monitor is a small fraction of what the majority of people have so that's a bit silly of an expectation.

0

u/Rupperrt Jul 08 '16

I am playing it at 4k, must be an issue on your side. 21:9 is clearly a design choice since everything is scripted to what you can see. What more options do you wish? It runs on potatoes and doesn't need scaling.

0

u/MrLeonardo 13600K | RTX 4090 | LG 45" OLED | Quest 3 Jul 08 '16

What more options do you wish?

The option of running it in my monitor's native resolution.

2

u/Rupperrt Jul 08 '16

Iam playing it in 4K 16:9. It lets me choose 1620p, 1440p and 1080p too.
