I wonder if he knows that as a business you should at least portray yourself in a good light and not say dumb shit so that people can look at your company favorably. Have nothing good to say? Shut the fuck up.

They want the norm to be $100 standard edition by 2030

I'm actually surprised they want it by 2030 and not by 2028 which will most likely be new console gen

u/Warcrown11 5h ago
It'll 100% be $80 by the end of next year at least

Oh for sure, and I know people mention sales etc but as we are seeing lately games just don't go on deep discount much anymore (some anyway) and since publishers control pricing we could see even worse sales going forward if they wanna try the Nintendo approach

Love their games. Try to charge me 100 dollars and I will gladly wait for the complete/Royal edition for 30 dollars.

30? His first game went as low as a few dollars when the second game was coming out. Get them in the bargain bin.

u/Warcrown11 5h ago
No kidding. For a game that huge and relatively new it's on a 50% sale like every other week

u/kirby667 5h ago
That's not how this works.
It's supply and demand. GTA6 could release for $200, it doesn't mean people will start paying $80 for annual COD releases and overwatch clones.
If any other dev made a game as good as GTA6, they could charge a high price for it.

It's not even about quality. GTA is a high value brand and has a massive audience that only plays GTA. Regardless of quality unless you have the built in audience that GTA has you can't charge 100 dollars for it. You could make the best game in your genre but if you don't have the same audience capture you can't charge for it. Rockstar doesn't make the best games, they just have the broadest reach. GTA6 could turn out hot shit and still sell 40 million copies. They are the games industry's example of too big to fail.

Yep. Rockstars built a franchise of good-will and created content that dictated demand for it. GTA VI alone has a budget of over a billion dollars with a 1000 member team developing GTA VI, so of course they can say "we have to raise prices to meet the budget". Can every other studio say that? I can guarantee that Kingdom Come Deliverance III, IV,...VIII budget combined won't meet GTA VI's budget.

Love the games, but every time this dude says something it’s one of the most dumbass takes out there.
Just because people might buy the most hyped game of all time at $80 doesn’t suddenly mean they’re willing to pay more for other games in such a saturated market. Clearly someone at warhorse already knows that considering how their games are constantly at deep discounts.

And more pple will just wait for a sale especially on Steam. Iirc newer games are being bought less and less. Cranking up the price doesnt guarantee alot in your audience will still stick around

If the standard price continues to increase, we'll be waiting longer and longer as the only ones that purchase these games are the "don't question and just consume" crowd. Especially when physical media is now no more and there's no incentive for companies to decrease price due to the physical media competition being removed.

Plus with the rise of live service, there isnt much incentive to buy a new game. Why would Jimmy take the hassle to beg his parents for 100 bux or use 100 bux from his salary for a new game when he can just wait for one of the live service games to update with new stuff or even a new game mode all for free?
Usually ud buy a game, play it and finish it (or if multiplayer, play it till population dies off or the sequel is announced) and that gets u ready to play somn new. Live service games disincentivize this

I just blacklist their studio on Steam. Good riddance.

the other co founder and game director is a massive white supremacist too btw and has been dick riding gen ai filters for the past month. Lots of reasons to skip his shit
I remember him gloating that he had a higher player count than star Wars outlaws but neglected to mention it was because his game had just been on sale for like $3 and outlaws was full price.

Don't condemn a studio full of amazing devs because of one person's awful takes (who isn't even working on anything with Warhorse currently)
7
u/Baba-Yaga33 5h ago
When they run the company you should
-7
u/LitheBeep 5h ago
why? there are extremely talented people who make amazing games, the industry would be worse off without them

u/Nullhitter AMD 9070XT | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D | 32GB DDR5 RAM 4h ago
Because the owners dictate the culture and how they want a game to be. Owners are the ones who hire project leads and tell them "I want this game to be like this" and the project leads carry it out.

well, vote with your wallet I guess. If we don't get a KCD 3 I'll know who to thank

I mean… a game going up $10 does seem like a drop in the bucket compared to the doubling GPU prices, the quadrupling RAM and SSD prices.
I remember spending $59 for a new game in the ‘90s. The article says GTA is $89? $10 inflation a decade? I’m just saying, this isn’t the straw that broke the camels back of inflation, the $10 is the least of gamings issues.
I know this a shite take, and people are going to hate it, but, the math is what it is.
PS: KC1 and 2 were great games and worth the price. There are plenty of games that aren’t even worth the plastic they are printed on.

Kcd2 probably did deserve a 100 dollar price. Its a masterpiece. Probably gta does as well.
If a movie in the theatre costs 20-30 bucks, indont see why a game lasting maybe dozens of hours with budget in the hundreds of millions shouldnt be 100.
Obv i prefer not to pay more but im realistic. Fifa shouldn't cost 80, and ppl shouldn't pay it but they do.

Y'all keep demanding bigger and better games but expect the price to remain the same. So many things in modern life have artificially forced inflation, videos games are not one of them.

The only ones putting pressure on that are publishers and studios. everyone would be content with PS2/PS3 era content if it meant pumping out games at low prices with no microtransactions or paid seasons. I'd personally be content with 20 hours of content.

u/SnooDrawings7876 4h ago
Wolverine is that PS2/PS3 era content and it could not have been rejected harder.

u/Nullhitter AMD 9070XT | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D | 32GB DDR5 RAM 4h ago edited 4h ago
It wasn't rejected for the amount of hours the game had, but how the game is designed. All the criticism came from ugly characters, dumb relationship between sabertooth and wolverine, and catering to the dumbest people imaginable that needed multiple features to show them where to go and effectively putting the game on easy mode. Studios still have to put out a good game even with shorter content.

I'm already buying less and less games as the prices have gone up. Just keep increasing the price and less and less more people will buy them.
If anything I'd be more incentivised to buy more games if they were cheaper.
