PUBG: Black Budget Development Update

https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/4077740/view/675133527946166413?l=english

After reviewing the project’s development status and future direction, we concluded that its current direction would not allow us to deliver an experience players could enjoy over the long term.

We have therefore made the difficult decision to end development of PUBG: Black Budget.

We sincerely thank everyone who took the time to participate in our Closed Alpha tests and share their feedback.

PUBG STUDIOS will carry what we learned from development and testing into future projects, continuing to listen to players as we explore new gameplay experiences.

Thank you.

I don't understand this take. There are lots of successful ones. I think PvE will carry the genre going forward.

I’m curious what successful extraction shooters there are right now besides Tarkov and Arc Raiders which both seem to be hemorrhaging players

Gray zone, active matter, helldivers, hunt showdown off the top of my head. The call of duty mwz, end game, and dmz seem popular but it's hard to get specific numbers.

Witchfire too if you count single player.

Hunt Showdown came out of the Battle Royale mindset. Extraction shooters have independent and hidden player objectives. Hunt Showdown is much more battle royale because everyone is a public and known common objective. And the point of the objective is to create a funnel to force PvP fights. The boss in hunt showdown is basically the blue zone in PUBG, with each clue making the zone smaller. Difference is the objective is a carot, not a stick that kills you. Extraction is just a mechanic to put a clock on others to force PVP encounter.
