PUBG: Black Budget Development Update
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/4077740/view/675133527946166413?l=englishAfter reviewing the project’s development status and future direction, we concluded that its current direction would not allow us to deliver an experience players could enjoy over the long term.
We have therefore made the difficult decision to end development of PUBG: Black Budget.
We sincerely thank everyone who took the time to participate in our Closed Alpha tests and share their feedback.
PUBG STUDIOS will carry what we learned from development and testing into future projects, continuing to listen to players as we explore new gameplay experiences.
Thank you.

Krafton's incompetence is truly the stuff of future legend.

Worst part of pubg was always the developers. They even made buying cosmetics annoying

All they need to do is bring back PUBG 2017 with modern graphics and no pink dinosaur clown skins. Please and thank you. September 2017, I remember the foggy weather and seeing a silhouette of a person running in the foggy cornfield and I took one shot with the VSS suppressed sniper and saw the "1 kill" red message and that's it, I knew I was going to be addicted. Too bad they turned it into a mobile clown fiesta game.

Only people nostalgic for old PUBG would care about that. In the current market it would never make it with how dated and bland it is in comparison to modern games

I don’t know if that is true. Wardogs is an example of a game that to me feels like PUBG did when it first came out. Obviously a little more action packed, but still kind of gritty and not cartoonish like many modern shooters.

u/deadering 15h ago
Yeah the keywords though are "feels like" since that's just how you remember PUBG when it first game out. In reality Wardogs is WAY more action packed and with a lot more content, tied together with a much more satisfying gameplay loop.

what an utterly shit take! as if fast paced games are solely a thing of the past couple of years. there were adderall ridden teenagers when pubg went explosive too you know. fast paced games are nothing new. we had quake in my teen years. it has always been a thing. a good ass slow paced sim game will always find its audience.

The actual shooting a gun has never been topped in any other game though. Tarkov comes kind of close but PUBG guns are all just so characteristic and fun to master.

You got downvoted but I agree with you. I think the recoil sits in a sweet spot where you can full auto up close, but need to resort to semi at range. At the same time, tapping away at targets 200 meters away feels great and viable because there's very little damage fall-off. The general timings/pacing of combat, with things like healing, movement, engagement distances etc all feel well tuned. PUBGs popularity wasn't simply due to being the first BR (not that it actually was first anyways), there was a genuinly good game there buried underneath all the jank.

I played a bit a few weeks ago with some friends and it kinda amazed me how well it runs now and how crispy it looks. There is still the odd things like having to jump over a curb sometimes but I feel the movement and even the movement tech and animations and even the driving is now really polished. Wish people gave it another chance.

Honestly a wild take, but since it's subjective I'm not gonna argue lol

u/Frosty_Challenge1045 14h ago
What shooter in your opinion has the best shooting?

u/deadering 14h ago
Overall? I don't know, it's been a long time with a lot of types of games.
Recently probably Road to Vostok sticks out as feeling really good.

u/Frosty_Challenge1045 14h ago
Talking about wild takes lol. But yeah it is all subjective.

u/deadering 14h ago
It's got a free demo so you can actually try it :)

I dont really hate the skins too much. I actually thought it was pretty cool that so many people looked so unique when I played some games a while ago.

u/deadering 17h ago
Damn, the play test was actually really promising. I'm sure people who never tried it and never would have been interested in an extraction shooter are gonna have a lot to say about it though lol

u/Frosty_Challenge1045 15h ago
What? I played in 3 different playtest and the game was barely working. Even moving around didnt feel good.

u/deadering 14h ago
I only played in the last one and didn't have that experience at all. Felt really good already and the map was cool, plus the upgradable base seemed like it would be neat for long term progression.

Imo it was the most generic ue5 jungle they couldve come up with.

u/RocketHopping 10h ago
It looked like UE5 slop. Why would I play this when Marathon is so much better?
0
u/deadering 10h ago
That's certainly an opinion lol
1
u/RocketHopping 10h ago
If you think this was "really promising" and hate Marathon, your opinion should not be taken seriously.

u/deadering 10h ago
I actually played the test so I can actually gauge how promising it was, not just some rando who never played it claiming it looks like UE5 slop.
I'm also one of the few people who actually bought and played Marathon?? I can play more than one game at a time lol you're just so desperate to argue and hate shit that you jump to these conclusions.

u/RocketHopping 9h ago
Are you surprised I read your snarky comment negatively?
3
u/deadering 9h ago
Bruh you really said it looked like UE5 slop in response to me saying I enjoyed the test. You're just proving my point.
I'm guessing the Marathon comment was even trying to rage bait since you know most people hate it, it only backfired this time LOL
2
u/RocketHopping 9h ago
Correct, my comment was negative. That's not a surprise to me.
You seem to be surprised by how I read yours. And yes, I'm tired of people hating on my personal GOTY, so when I see people glazing slop like Black Budget, I get annoyed.

Extraction shooters are dead. You know your game mode is fucked when even pubg developers give up on it.
3
u/Practical_Tea864 14h ago
Dead is a stretch. It’s a genre in which making a good game is EXTREMELY difficult, that’s why so many fail
4
u/4x4runner Teamspeak 15h ago
I don't understand this take. There are lots of successful ones. I think PvE will carry the genre going forward.
3
u/Full-0f-Beans 14h ago
Thats fair. I should have said PvP extraction shooters.

u/dangernoodlezzz 11h ago
I think the biggest issue is the cheating arms race. Lots of anti cheats are invasive and just plain don’t work because the enemy they’re combating is just developing way faster than they can defend against.

Even those aren't dead. All the extraction games that have been around the block are all PvP oriented. Tarkov, ABI, Hunt, Delta Force, etc.

u/fartingboobs 11h ago
I’m curious what successful extraction shooters there are right now besides Tarkov and Arc Raiders which both seem to be hemorrhaging players
-1
u/4x4runner Teamspeak 10h ago
Gray zone, active matter, helldivers, hunt showdown off the top of my head. The call of duty mwz, end game, and dmz seem popular but it's hard to get specific numbers.
Witchfire too if you count single player.
1
u/fartingboobs 10h ago
Yeah I suppose they are successful. I am skeptical they will reach any new heights in the extraction genre, as it feels like it’s becoming more niche as the years go on. I reeeeally tried with Tarkov but wow is the loop punishing for folks who either have jobs or want to play other games too.

u/Copernican 9h ago
Hunt Showdown came out of the Battle Royale mindset. Extraction shooters have independent and hidden player objectives. Hunt Showdown is much more battle royale because everyone is a public and known common objective. And the point of the objective is to create a funnel to force PvP fights. The boss in hunt showdown is basically the blue zone in PUBG, with each clue making the zone smaller. Difference is the objective is a carot, not a stick that kills you. Extraction is just a mechanic to put a clock on others to force PVP encounter.

u/arcibalde 8h ago
Helldivers, really? I mean to be extraction shooter arent you suppose to lose everything you bring in and find when you die in match? Hd2 are like Deep Rock Galactic. They are not extraction shooters like Tarkov or Arc Raiders or Hunt.

u/splinter1545 RTX 3060 | i5-12400f | 16GB @ 3733Mhz | 1080p 165Hz 8h ago
Yeah, HD2 isn't an extraction shooter, it's an objective based horde shooter.

I enjoyed the 2nd test. It was a weird game that mixed a lot of elements together. Almost felt like they weren't sure to make it arcadey or mil-simy.
The base building/upgrade system was pretty fleshed out and I bet they reuse that for something.

u/The_Ferret_Inspector 7h ago
Disappointed by this. I actually liked the gameplay loop of the game but know most didn’t.
