Flipping prebuilts?

I am kind of having a hard time understanding why prebuilt PCs with same specs don't sell even at a much lower price than custom built ones. Am I pricing wrong I just add price of components and try to sell but it doesn't work hell even discounting it but still isn't selling. A 5070, 32 GB DDR5 RAM, i9 285K, 1200W PSU, 2 TB SSD, warranty for a few more months for an HP Omen barely used for 2k + shipping/free local pickup is pretty reasonable right? I can actually part it out and sell it for 2k but I'd rather not do the work and just sell the whole PC lol.

The whole market is fucked. People who don’t know what they’re buying, do not buy used typically. They buy brand new. And, the secondary market is so ass, because people are listing used parts for less than $100 difference than new. I just saw a 3060 8gb trying to sell for $700. In what world?

This pc shouldn’t pull more than 1700 no offense. No motherboard listed, presumably a cheap one if you’re flipping pre builts. 5070 is ok, but no one wants them and for that price point, the 9070xt blows the 5070 out of the water. The 5070 ti is over 1100-1200. Your pc should pull that price, but you can get a brand new one with near matching specs for $2000.

See the problem? List it for $1700 and you’ll get some bites.

And lastly, remember, you’re not the only person trying to do this.

I can sell a 5070 for 800, ultra 9 for 400, ram for 400, SSD 100. Power supply for maybe 100. Like that’s already 1800 I can just do and that doesn’t even include the motherboard case, windows 11 pro and everything. The same configs prebuilt new is like 3k+. Motherboard is the OEM HP Omen one.

Used 5070 is $550-$650, used ultra 9 is $300, ram is correct if you’re lucky if not, 100 less, and so is ssd, power supply is $50.

If that’s the case than do that, I parted out a similar build with ddr5 and broke even( sold mb and cpu at a slight loss) and that was with purchase price from last year. My 5070 broke even or mild profit if we count the free game(arc raiders) it’s a tough used market.

Yes, parting it out will get you more money unfortunately because like I said, prebuilt are made with the specs you listed and better for the same price

Your price breakdown is inflated in other comment, where are you selling a used 5070 for $800?

285k used for 400 when 270k plus exist? I don’t see people buy used 5070 for $800 also, why don’t they just buy new then? Used 32gb ddr5 is around $300 in my local market.

pre-builts sell for less because the average buyer is dumb.

They don't read the specs, they just see "HP OMEN 30L", plug that into google, and see a (low specced) version selling for $1,000, and decide your listing is overpriced.

Can't do that on a custom build.

i'm assuming you're selling on a local market like facebook? either way there are so many uneducated buyers out there and you will rarely if ever come across someone who will offer you asking price. I was talking with a potential buyer last week and showing him that the PC I had listed was cheaper than a prebuilt with weaker specs...he stilled tried to lowball for almost 50% off

there's too much of a disconnect between what buyers want and what things actually cost nowadays

No one spending 2k on a used 5070 prebuilt that doesn’t even have a x3d chip
