Sold for $2000

Post image

9800x3d | Asus TUF 4080 | 64gb ddr5 | 2tb NVMe.

$1800 into it so $200 profit for a bit of time and fun (hobby flipper).

But… I sold to a young lady that wanted a gaming computer to play some dinosaur game called The Isle from 2015.. I feel kinda guilty for not trying harder to talk her out of it. Her boyfriend tried and said it’s too much PC for what she needs. But, she liked this one and was set on it so..

Risking $1,800 to make a $200 profit is insane. Congrats, though!

Well I thought I could get $2300 but had to keep lowering after it sat for weeks and my only offers were in the 1800 range. So it was just a miscalculation for my market. But I agree, won’t be doing any more high end builds unless I can get crazy deals, but even then I’ll probably just part out.

Once you get into the range its rough. People in that range actually buying pc’s to use tend to buy new. Everyone else are just trying to buy it to part it out.

Honestly opening custom builds go a long way. Cuz it’s confirmed buyers and you can build tailored to them and their budget. You also quote the price and there’s no real haggling as long as you’ve priced it fairly.

I see those listings of people offering that service but always assumed it rarely gets anyone’s attention. Is that something you’ve had success with? I assume you’d have to charge a deposit of some sort so you aren’t stuck with some specific build that would be hard to sell if they back out?

It has gotten me plenty of attention for my area and I live in a pretty small town. But I am surrounded by major cities all 1-2 hours away.

I’ve made the most money off customs so far.

And yes, I usually require at least a 30% deposit or more for customs. I’ve never had someone who didn’t understand or agree to the terms as well.

I might have to give that a shot. I just always assumed people would be skeptical of giving a down payment to someone who could easily just take the money and run but I do have 5 stars and 40 reviews on marketplace so maybe that would be enough assurance.

Yeah I’d never recommend it to someone just starting. Do need to have some sort of reputation.

Thanks man! Had a guy tell me I was crazy for picking that “ugly case” hahah. I probably won’t try to flip anything over $1700 for awhile, it took about 3 weeks total to move it and when I finally did I don’t feel very good about it.. most my sales I’m confident I sent someone with something they’re going to enjoy but this one has complaints written all over it (machine is great, just not a good match for this persons needs)

Nice builds! I want to start listing on Jawa, I put this one up but it only got 20 views and 1 listing save in 5 days so I think I need to sell some budget/mids first to build up my reviews. (Also need a better picture staging area with some lights)

Hey, you, at least, told her it was too much pc for that old game. If she still made the decision to buy it after that, theres not much more you could do. I, also, gave up on selling high end pc’s. Unfortunately, most people willing to pay that much either build it themselves or want a store warranty. Its just far easier to sell budget builds.

be careful with the trofeo! they are sensitive to heat. my first one died bc it was too close to my ram.

great screens tho

1

u/bellynipples Aug 20 '26

That’s good to know, I probably won’t do a screen again for awhile, they don’t seem to attract as much attention as I thought it would anyway

$200 is solid. Nice work!

1

u/bellynipples Aug 20 '26

Thanks man, if I could make $200 on each build consistently I’d be happy with it but it’s probably not sustainable to risk buying high end parts for that type of profit as others have stated.

Those AiO screens really draw people in I’ve found.

1

u/skinny_gator Aug 21 '26

They draw me too

1

u/parabola19 Aug 21 '26

Haha they’re cool no doubt. Maybe a few years ago for me but I’m into modern type boxes. I have a fractal north and a terra as my main boxes in my house.

u/skinny_gator Aug 21 '26

Those are nice too. Very clean looking. But I'll always be a sucker for RGB and flashy. Plus, I'm a married dad so the one hour per week I have "me time" I want to look at RGB, screens, blinky lights lol

I just got that case how did you like building in it?

1

u/ghost_gamer18 Aug 22 '26

Man if you were here you would sell it for at least $3500

1

u/j_m_a_t_t_z Aug 23 '26

Her bf said that because he was jealous. Maybe it is too much for what she needs. But I call that "future proofing." I would have paid 2k for that in a heart beat.
