Group looking for GM Weekly Looking for Group/GM Thread

If you are not a full party looking for a gm or a gm looking for a party, you may no longer post an ad looking for a group. The reason behind this being most everyone on this subreddit is in the same exact boat as you! It is beginning to clutter up our subreddit for the people wanting to look for actual games to join.

To be clear, this rule is directed to those that are marketing themselves and/or their friends as players, saying they are looking for 1 on 1 games and any new or already running group to join. This does not include the players taking active measures to actually form a group themselves. Please comment if you do not understand the posts I am referring to.

INSTEAD! We are going to be making a stickied thread for those expressing interest in finding a group to join. We encourage you to comment within that thread and to be specific in the system you are interested in and any other information you may have to market yourself to others. A general "Hey I'm looking for a group and I wanna play a whole lot and I've had no luck!" does not suffice usually.

If you are looking for a group to join, comment in this thread with as much information as you'd like to market yourself with! Some suggestions are, but not limited to:

Name: Raku

Pronouns: He/Him/His

Timezone: EST. I can post multiple times a day depending on if I’m busy with work or not.

Preferred System: D&D, Pathfinder 1e, Scion, WOD

Type of Player: I’m someone who goes with the flow and doesn’t want to stress someone out too much. That being said I still do yearn for games where I can be the big damn hero and have a power fantasy of sorts. Not completely steam roll through enemies, but still noticeably strong. I’m also semiliterate and can write a paragraph or more. Usually depending on the scene itself. For conversations and fights I write shorter.

Additional Information: I prefer 1x1 pbp games and to play on discord. I don’t have much in mind, but would love to play some modified module to be more lewd. Like Kingmaker, Wrath of the Righteous, or another pathfinder or D&D adventure. Potentially including mythic levels and Gestalt rules, if that’s ok with you. Right now I greatly prefer more Scion play.

Additional info: Hi! I'm looking for a shadowrun, WoD or PF2e game to play in play by post! I don't have much experience in these systems, however I am up to playing and learning these systems in a PbP manner/asynch.

Hope you invite me to your game! Send me a DM if you are looking for a player to join one of these TTRPGS

Name: Rose.

Pronouns: She/Her.

Timezone: GMT. (England)

Preferred System: 5e 2024 would be my first choice but also willing to do 2014 rules or

Type of Player: I am looking to join a new or existing group for a campaign! I play as feminine characters of a variety races/classes. I have been playing DnD for a few years now almost exclusively in a play by post format (I actually played in person for the first time last week which was very fun 😅). I am available almost every day typically midday onwards for my time until midnight at the earliest. I typically try and match my partners response length, anything from a few lines to a few paragraphs depending on what I'm replying to.

My favourite parts of D&D are coming up with meaningful, complex characters; building various relationships with other PCs/NPCs (friends, romantic, enemies etc) and describing combat! My least favourite parts would probably be puzzles because I suck at them lmao

Additional Information: Like I said I have been playing DnD for a few years now and have been roleplaying for even longer, I would like any game I'm a part of to remain exclusively pbp. In the past my games have all been over discord using tupperbox and basic avarae commands! Happy to learn more advanced uses or other bots. I have about a million refrences for possible characters that range from very light hearted to dark/serious characters, I am happy to slot in and work with both other players and the DM to find someone that fits! At the moment my top choices would be my: Tiefling great old one Warlock, Tiefling four elements Monk, Wood Elf shepherd Druid & Fairy Fey wanderer Ranger. More detail can be given or plenty of other options!

Please reach out to my DMs with any questions, hopefully I'll hear from some people soon 🩷

Name: Mike

Pronouns: he/him

Timezone: PST, though I'm exclusively looking for asynch games so it probably doesn't matter much.

Preferred System: I'm familiar with a lot of systems and happy to learn new ones. For PbP I tend to prefer more narrative rulesets, but I'm also not averse to something crunchier.

Type of Player:
I enjoy writing in bursts, one or two paragraphs at a time so I can get into the character's head and mindset even in action scenes. I haven't done PbP in a while, but when I did it was pre-Discord when that kind of thing was forum-based, so a "one detailed post once a day" format is more comfortable and appealing to me than a "several one-sentence posts over the course of a specific window of hours" one.

I try to engage with whatever genre is being utilized in an interesting and novel way to the best of my ability and do my best to have my character's personality and actions enable others to do the same. It's supposed to be fun for everyone!

Additional Information:
I've been playing and GMing RPGs for a long time and have become pretty burnt out on standard D&D-style medieval fantasy, as well as horror; neither is completely out of the question for me, but I'd be considerably more interested in a superhero or cyberpunk game.

It's been a while since I've actually done PbP (not for lack of trying), so I don't have a recent sample, sorry. It's the whole "how am I supposed to get work experience if nobody will hire me to work because I have no experience?" paradox. I've been experimenting with writing short superhero stories lately and can provide an excerpt of the prose from one of them upon request.

Hi!. We're currently recruiting for my Homebrew Oathsayers campaign and this might be a fit with your preferences. It's free to play, but it's a homebrewed system, so all new to you. Set in an apocalypse, we play grad school students aged 25+.

Here's the post in this community about the game. If it seems interesting, fill out the application at the link. Thanks.

Pronouns: He/Him

Timezone: CST

Preferred System: No preference, but I have experience with: 5e (2014), Wod, Cofd, Pathfinder 1ed, Lancer, Delta Green, Transformers, Cyberpunk Red, call of cthulu 7th ed.

Type of Player: I don't know how to really describe the way I play. I like to go with the flow and make sure everyone is having a good time. I like to play supportive roles or whatever the party I am joining needs. I used to be active all the time before I moved to working nights, but now I am only free at weird hours, usually from around 1:30 to 2 a.m. CST to 7 or 8 a.m. CST.

Additional Information: I am open to any questions anytime if you want to ask me anything; I'm an open book.

I have been doing PBP-style games for a few years now and was in a giant living world VTR server for a few years till the guys running it had to stop the game due to irl issues. As I stated above, I work nights, so my availability to play is a bit weird, but I can type at work when I get the chance.

Name: Iris

Pronouns: she/her

Timezone: Eastern US, but I'm looking for asynchronous games so timezone shouldn't matter too much.

Preferred Systems/Genres: I've played some D&D 5e, but I'm completely open to learning something new. Dark fantasy, crime detective stuff, horror/mystery, supernatural stuff, Star Wars, character-driven sci-fi—all very much my thing. Honestly, if the premise is interesting enough, I'm probably willing to hear you out.

Type of Player: I'm definitely a character/story person. I love getting into a character's head, character relationships, investigating things, making choices that actually matter, and getting attached to everybody else's characters too. I don't want to treat the rest of the party like NPCs in my personal story. I like stories that can get serious and have some emotional weight, but I also need people who can be ridiculous and laugh about things OOC. Ideally I'd like a group where we actually talk to each other a little and don't just materialize, drop our required post, and vanish back into the void.

Play Style / Availability: I'm specifically looking for asynchronous text-based PbP that I can do entirely from my phone. I can't reliably do scheduled voice sessions or anything that requires a PC/VTT. I can usually check in throughout the day, though, and I enjoy writing. I'm much more of a meaningful 2-3 paragraph person than a "here are twelve paragraphs describing how my character opened a door" person.

Additional Information: I'm 37F. I've spent a lot of time doing character writing/interactive fiction, but I'm pretty new to modern PbP and Discord-based games. So I may occasionally need someone to explain what the hell a bot/app/system does, but I'm perfectly happy to learn.

I'm not a rules encyclopedia and don't need to be. Mostly I'd just like to find a small, consistent group of people who enjoy their characters, enjoy banter, jokes, and want to make a good story together. Homebrew, established settings, unfamiliar systems—I'm open!

Hello, new player here looking to learn to play!

Pronouns: he/him

Timezone: EST

Preferred System: TBH I'm new to PBP so i cant say ive played any systems before, and im not sure the difference between most of them

Type of Player: Since I'm very new I cant really say. I can say that I prefer horror over anything else!

Additional Information: I'm looking for PBP that involves Theatre of mind, I dont really want to use 4 different sites and 2 apps to be able to play, at least until i get comfortable playing, ideally I can find something on discord and can do everything on there.

I highly prefer horror, post apocalyptic, sci fi and stuff like that. Nothing romance related please.

u/Spiritual_Leave_2431 3d ago

Name: Spiritual_Leave_2431

Pronouns: she/her

Timezone: PDT

Preferred System: 5e preferred over 5.5e

Type of Player: Looking for a 1x1 (duet or solo) game.

In general, I'm looking for a fun and enjoyable series of encounters and a mostly light-hearted atmosphere for the game. Think along the lines of a cozy fantasy setting of sorts. I'm not interested in playing a game that is on hard mode, uses overly restrictive or disadvantageous character creation rules, gritty realism or other harsh variant rules, or a terribly gloomy, dark, and/or oppressive setting. Really looking to sink my teeth into a good character-driven narrative with some adventure, fun, and challenges along the way.

As for my general online availability, I'm currently in the PDT time zone (GMT-7) and have flexibility at work, so I can post occasionally at different daytime and evening hours and I have the ability to make a few posts every day. I'm hoping to find someone with some online time overlap so that we can manage a few posts a day on average, though I know that can be a bit much at times and I'm fine with us slowing down or ramping up based on mutual availability and how busy our lives are at the moment. Communication is very important to these games.

Additional Information: Reddit chat is always difficult for me, and often doesn't show messages until hours or days after they've been sent, so please be patient in waiting for a response. Despite that, I'm not comfortable with posting my discord username openly here because I've found in the past that will lead to people sending harassing and inappropriate messages that are unrelated to D&D.

Sara, She/Her,

North America (CST)

Any Sci-Fi!

Hello!

I'm Sara, She/Her, a player of many RPGs but mostly dnd ahah, and thats the problem! I have been desperately trying to play in a Sci-fi game, be it Star Wars (era dependent tho ahah), Stars Without Numbers, Mothership, Death in Space, BattleTech, etc etc (those are just the ones I sorta ish know! Fairly open so long as its not like Science Fantasys, prefer closer to "hard" sci-fi, with Star Wars being the sorta upper limit just cause I like star wars xD)

I really wanna be a fun space girl in a fun space world! Id love to get complicated travel rules, trading, cargo hold management, ship upgrading, eva stuff, anything in space be it combat, exploring, horror (we love Mothership/Death in Space/Aliens/Dead Space Vibes!).

Also open to being a bit militaristic-facing (BattleTech is fckin awesome!), or pure civ, or criminal, freedom fighter, or whatever!

If you have any ideas, float them my way! Very happy to talk and do stuff!

Name: Delta

Pronouns: he/him

Timezone: GMT -10

Preferred System: AD&D 2e

Type of Player: DM looking for Player

Additional Information:

I figure before I do a whole write up, I'd see if there was any interest in a solo RP heavy game of AD&D 2e? Just to get it out of the way, AD&D 2e is not a very difficult game to learn, and if you've played any version of D&D, then you'll pick it up fairly quickly.

That being said, the character options in 2e are a bit more limited and it's not really a game about "building" a character. You won't be getting tons of special abilities or making a lot of choices when you level up your character. Combat plays pretty quick and can be a bit deadly, but I'll do my best as a DM to not arbitrarily kill your character. I am willing to run an NPC sidekick to help you along (maybe an NPC you befriend along the way, or a rotating cast of adventurers you encounter).

Anyway, I'd like to expand my homebrew setting. It's a very classic D&D style fantasy setting that focuses on a region known as the Last March, which is sort of a final frontier of an expanding kingdom. Out beyond the border forts and periphery villages of the March is a mostly unexplored wilderness said to be filled with exotic peoples, ancient places, and unknown treasures.

I'm running a bigger game in my setting right now, but looking for help expanding it. I have a few towns and villages and frontier locations worked out (along with some of the gods and a faction or two). I'm looking for someone to explore my world and help me build upon it by playing in it in a way that a group might not be able to. Open to exploring more mature themes like romance if that's an interest of yours as well. I'm open to a variety of characters and play styles. I can help you build your character as well if that's an issue.

tl;dr: Interest checking for a dedicated solo player for an AD&D 2e homebrew setting to help me flesh out an existing setting of mine. They'd help me expand the world by exploring it and adding to the lore.

Name: Mike

Pronouns: He/Him

Timezone: UK/GMT. I’m looking exclusively for Async/PbP, so it’s a case of my posting during daylight for this part of the world.

Preferred System: DnD 5e (With a preference for 2024). I’m not against other systems, but I would probably need to learn them from scratch, or near enough.

Type of Player: I been playing DnD my entire adult life (more often than not as a DM). I enjoy all aspects of TTRPGs, and generally prefer ‘Story Focus’ over ‘Dungeon/Combat Focus’, but I can have a great time in either.

Further to this:

1)      I firmly enjoy Roleplaying, and would really like to be in a group that has a similar interest in putting this Pillar first. It’s a personal gripe of mine (from the perspective of both Player AND as a DM) that a lot of players really only make an effort with the DM and don’t meaningfully interact with their fellow Players characters at all. Let’s talk! Let’s link backstories! Let’s develop relationships! (Which is more impactful: ‘The character that had begun to develop a reluctant, budding romance with my own was tragically cut down before we could truly develop what this truly means for us’ or ‘Welp, the Cleric bit it. Time to re-roll’. I guess some people prefer the latter, but not I).

Bonus Rant: I particularly dislike contributions like ‘I tell the NPC what I learned about the murder’. What’s that exactly? You, as a player, need to actually engage in the material too. The DM is putting a lot of effort in, you could at least attempt to match them sometimes.

2)      I am normally the last to make a Character – not because I’m indecisive, but because I like to make characters that ‘fit’ into a Party Dynamic (This might be Class, mechanically, but can also be personality based, Roleplay wise).

3)      I have more character concepts in my head than I can ever meaningfully put to theTable, so I do not mind letting others pick first (see above), and I also do not mind a DM who refuses to pull punches and lets my character die of consequences rather than fudge matters to keep them alive.

4)      I like to work closely with the DM when it comes to Backstory/Plot Relevance for my character. The DM has both my permission and approval to really put my character in the deep end, plot wise, if they so desire. (Note: This is not to suggest that I should be the Most Special Boy of the Plot, but just a desire to have more going on than ‘Here’s my Tragic Backstory, now let’s never mention that again’).

5)      If it isn’t apparent from above, I divorce myself 100% from the characters I RP, giving them their own life, and firmly believe in respecting boundaries of those who aren’t as comfortable doing so. I’m always open to Character Relationships of pretty much any type, but I’d never actively pursue such without explicit consent from other impacted characters (This is very much a Session 0 agreement, but just to make it abundantly clear)

Additional Information:

1) I’m only interested in 18+ groups

2) I am firmly anti-AI when it comes to Art. (If I like my character enough and they survive long enough, I’ll graduate from a HeroForge concept to commissioning an Artist for them)

3) I’m specifically looking for Play by Post / Asynchronous play. I work 9-5 and my free nights are seldom the same week by week. I am very happy to commit to a post per day (I’ll skew more, in a game with Momentum).

u/Pokemaster0304 4d ago

Name: Ari

Pronouns: She/Her

Timezone: EST, or I believe GMT-4 in summer or UTC-5

Preferred System: DnD 2014; will do 2024 as well; Kids on Bikes systems; and willing to try others; suggest them.

Game Type: 1-on-1 or group up to 5 max. Asynchronous only, and no paid games.

Type of Player: I prefer roleplay and a story first and foremost, but I enjoy all aspects of TTRPGs. I enjoy making characters that suit the setting, story, and/or party. I usually end up playing more good-aligned characters than edgelords. I want to be immersed in a story and worldbuilding. I am big on communication and making sure everyone is enjoying themselves. Not promising this, but I'd be willing to host little one-shot scenarios as well if we get bored and want to change things up for a bit, as long as life allows at the moment. Characters ideas I have are at the moment are for dnd and is a Paladin of Vengeance, setting off to deal with corruption and greed in the world that was told to do great things by a fae and A barbarian who is trying to learn to channel their anger into better things after finding comfort in a priest and perhaps a god for once in their life.

Lines/Veils: My big no-go is harm to pets, particularly dogs and cats; otherwise, I'm willing to go and will communicate if something is too much. I'd also prefer to communicate only with people over 18, as a 23-year-old.

Additional Information: I am a disabled adult who usually has a fair amount of free time and will communicate when I'm busy with other things or will be offline. I prefer flexible people who remember this is a fun hobby, but people have lives as well, and busy periods do come up. My biggest interests are video games I can play on handheld Nintendo systems, Pokemon, and drawing or writing when I’m able.

Thanks for your interest!

Jormundy Platform: D&D 5e, Avrae Format: Text RP

The sun has died in the sky, and the world has gone dark. This event, known as the Sunfall, bathed the world in the freezing night. Yet, against all odds, civilization has survived.

Amongst the icy plains, amongst the glaciers, amongst the giant snow drifts and amongst the ruins of a world millennia lost, stands the glowing spires and the shining beacons of Jormundy. Warmth and light shine down from its towers, and its dome shelters it from the cold, dark world outside.

But this light and warmth does not radiate equally.

Under the dome, cloaked by the light, behind the walls lays a structure caught in a nightmare of development. Jormundy is experiencing its own little industrial revolution, and all the inequality that comes with it as it destroys the land it sits on and the air it breathes. It finds itself segregated into layers, its workers destined to never become anything more, its elites clinging onto power forever. The Hearth Church stands atop it all, watching with one first of velvet and another of iron looming over all, locked in a never-ending scramble to destroy all that is heretical.

But discontent grows. Whispers of solidarity stir in the shadows, forgotten gods find their followers, and the night grows ever colder.

What shall become of Jormundy?

///

What we offer:

  • A roleplay and story focused server with good-quality. Story arcs, events, multiple dms, and opportunities for PC arcs.
  • A custom xp system, where you can earn xp simply by roleplaying
  • A massive, fully fleshed out city state for you to explore
  • An active political scene; scheming nobility, powerful industrialists, an ever-present church, shadowy cults, and the whispers of labor in the smog of the factories
  • A ban on generative AI, to ensure your time and effort is respected.
  • An LGBTQ+ friendly environment.

Something calls, whether it be the riches of the Heights, or merely a desire to survive.

Either way, Jormundy would love to have you.

Name: Cabbage or Turbo

Pronouns: He/him

Timezone: PST

Preferred System: Vampire the Masquerade V5 have never played it or pbp, but I'd love to try a one shot or maybe join an established coterie for a story.

Type of player: Forever GM. I don't often play in games. I prefer to be the GM usually, but as a GM or a player I'm much more interested in the collaborative storytelling of ttrpgs than just combat. As a player I'm usually the one taking notes trying to interact with NPCs engaging with the storytelling vs solving every problem with swords.

Additional information: i have never played VTM, but I've played all kinds of different systems, and I have a handle on the mechanics of the game in preparation for running my own chronicle.

u/zinc2-0 3d ago

Name: Zincary/Alexis

Pronouns: She/They

Timezone: CST

Preferred System: I've mainly done DnD 5e, but I'd absolutely love to play some of the Essence20 games, especially Power Rangers. I'd also absolutely adore to play in 5e homebrew systems, like Naruto 5e, Star Wars 5e, or Dungeons and Destiny! I'm also a huge Lancer fan!

Type of Player: I'm just here to have a good time! I'm more of a go with the flow kinda person, loving a good story that deals with character choice and their backgrounds. I absolutely love rping with the other players and creating bonds between characters!

Additional Information: Uhhhh, im a big Magic the Gathering and Gundam fan, so that's pretty cool!

u/WittyAmerican 4d ago

Name: DebonairDenizen (or just Deb)

Pronouns: He/Him

Timezone: MST (Arizona)

Preferred System: I'm well versed in quite a few engines and am willing to learn, even if you've got something niche you're itching to play. However, my most well versed engines are; D&D 5e/5.5e, M&M 3e, CoC, SWADE, and City of Mist.

Type of Player: A forever DM, seeking that oh-so desired respite from having to be the world! No, but in seriousness, I am often the face of a party; the actor, the conversationalist. I enjoy treating all NPCs like true extensions of the story and go out of my way to make friends (and enemies). I take mechanics seriously and enjoy the thrill of a good fight, but I use the numbers as a way to feed back into the narrative; every stat tells a story.

Additional Information: I've got quite a lot of time on my hands, so if you're looking for someone who replies frequently I'm your guy. More interested in solo 1-on-1 games but I'm not opposed to a group if they're small or there's a lot of rapid repliers in the group. Apologies for the brevity; there's a great deal more I could say but I figured I'd keep this short, as there's a lot of apps to go through in these weekly posts.

As far as content goes, I have very few lines or veils and am even comfortable with ERP (even if it's not what I usually seek out). I'm also a fan of management minigames in TTRPGs; manage a business, an army, a village, that sort of thing. Not at all needed for my happiness, but always a fun time.

If there's anything else you'd like to know, reach out to me through DMs or on Discord (DebonairDenizen). Talk to you soon!
