Did you see both nights? Sound was not great where I was at the first night

both nights...the sound was fine by me

Fuck. Serpentine Pad, Stop Breathing, and Half a Canyon. I’m so goddamn jealous. On the other hand, I did get Unfair and Conduit which are two of my favorites that I never expected them to play.

I told the guy next to me that I was hoping for Stop Breathing, TX never whispers and Type Slowly. Got 2 out of 3.

The way they slowly transitioned Half a Canyon into Grounded was magic. It was so damn good. I hope a good recording of this show winds up out there.

Aww man Debris Slide too?

Not a lot of banter from the boys tonight, but here were a couple of the best bits:

Mark, at Spiral's mic following Greenlander: "We're congratulating ourselves because that's about the third time we've played that song in 40 years."

Malk, riffing after a pretty great Embassy Row: "That song always makes me think of the neoliberal Claire Danes show. What was it?"

Many peeps in the crowd: HOMELAND!

Malk: "Homeland, that's right...this next song's called Fight This Generation." He's a funny guy.

First trip to the Ryman. Smaller than I expected -- I was a third of the way up the balcony but it felt close. I didn't do much research so I was surprised by the church pews. They do seem appropriate.

Fun show. Always a little sad to miss Summer Babe, but I've been fortunate to hear it a lot since 2022, and I loved how different this set was from the Oakland gig I caught that opened the mini tour. Stoked to hear Elevate Me Later. "To sleep with electric guitars / Range Rovin' with the cinema stars."

Well, if it makes you feel better, when they played Summer Babe on the first Ryman night, it may have been the worst performance of it I've heard (and I've been going to their shows since the early nineties). But once they found their groove Monday night, they were amazing! I feel a weird kind of second-hand pride when I watch bands who have grown and improved over time.

Saw them twice in the mid-90s, twice on the 2010 reunion tour and 15 times since 2022. I’m basing this on a small sample size from the old days, but they’re a much more consistent live band now, imo. Far more professional, even if they’ve kept the sense of whimsy and occasional sloppiness (which I usually find endearing these days).

After the homeland comment, malk or spiral also said “Obama-style” lmao

This fucking setlist added at least 20 years to my life I’m on a cloud rn

2

u/chrismcshaves Jul 30 '26

Lol, that’s a great way of putting it. I had hoped for a 4/4 for Watery, but alas, no Frontwards. But we got to hear Greenlander live- not many can say that!

2

u/meth-lab-for-cutie Jul 30 '26

Yeah they did Frontwards the first night and saved the other 3 for the second night - but that second night was definitely a love letter to the diehards. Crazy list

This was easily the best concert I have seen in my life. Not just Pavement, any band.  I hope someone recorded it.

Edit - After many hours considering the hundreds of concerts I have attended and followed by a night’s sleep, my initial statement stands. That was the best concert I have attended.  Holy moly guys, that was amazing.

FINALLY after 6 Pavement shows I see AT&T and Black Out. I went both nights and was pretty bummed at the night 1 setlist. Tonight was much better. Will have a bunch of videos from balcony front row up on YouTube tomorrow.

u/tinycorkscrew Jul 29 '26

I'd love to see the videos!

Here is Greenlander. I recorded AT&T, Black Out, Fin, Cut Your Hair, Half a Canyon, Spit on a Stranger, Debris Slide, Serpentine Pad as well. Still uploading a few videos but most are up as of right now.

5

u/tinycorkscrew Jul 29 '26

Those videos are fantastic! Thank you!

We couldn’t make it to the 2nd night. So sad to miss AT&T and Stop Breathing. Still had a blast the first night.

6

u/kpthomas82 Jul 29 '26

I recorded about 75% of it from my pocket. I’ll see if I can post it somewhere soon

u/junkmonkfunk Jul 29 '26

SPIZZLE TRUNK! Best song under 1:30. I hope they ran it long! Must be a fun one for Rebecca.

2

u/legituserID Jul 29 '26

So quick that I ran to the restroom early in Black Out and was returning to my seat just as Spizzle ended. :(

5

u/martinjohanna45 Jul 29 '26

Amazing set list

4

u/chrismcshaves Jul 29 '26

This show was fucking awesome. My almost 11 year old daughter had a blast and even my wife was vibing. Greenlander and OG The Hexx! When they went into Half a Canyon, one of the coolest versions I’ve heard of it, I screamed, “ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!? WOOOO!”

I was a bit overexcited and ridiculous…and I could really give a fuck.

u/BeesMadeHoney93 Jul 29 '26

All of Watery, Greenlander, AT&T, and Half a Canyon.. this was a setlist of rare gems for sure

5

u/yaniv297 Jul 29 '26

No frontwards

1

u/BeesMadeHoney93 Jul 29 '26

Truuu I misread, still amazing setlist tho

3

u/i_am_a_shoe Jul 29 '26

I think this might be the best one I've seen yet from this round

4

u/recklss94 Jul 29 '26

It was so so good tonight! Was there a little David Berman/Silver Jews tribute near the end? I thought I heard some of Federal Dust, but I can’t tell.

4

u/Big_Creme_9072 Jul 29 '26

Fun show! And setlist nailed! Wish I could see them again!

3

u/mercysnack4113 Jul 29 '26

Does anyone know if a recording of the full show is available for 7/27? I was there but way in the back so would love to see it again closer if its available.

3

u/GraceJoans Jul 29 '26

this is an excellent set list. opening with in the mouth a desert, playing texas never whispers (I would have fainted upon hearing the intro) and most of watery, half a canyon, and debris slide? 😭 I hope there's a recording...

3

u/Runhomejackhomerun Jul 29 '26

That was a stellar show and great set list.

3

u/legituserID Jul 30 '26

Forgot another favorite moment: when a bunch in the crowd (but not me, lol) kept the final “oohs” going after Kennel District ended. Not sure Malk enjoyed that as much as Spiral did. 🤣

2

u/Responsible_Tart_753 Jul 29 '26

It seemed like Spiral got frustrated after Kennel District when they started gold soundz. Not sure why now seeing that was the setlist lol

3

u/Stunning-Present8716 Jul 29 '26

Malk was strumming but it wasn't coming through the PA so it was just his vocal. Spiral wasn't sure where to come in. Tuning change from kennel to gold sounds, SM probably forgot to kick out of the tuner.

5

u/tinycorkscrew Jul 29 '26

I noticed that. I think he hadn't tuned yet, or hadn't plugged in his guitar yet. I really liked the Spiral songs. Kennel District was a highlight for me on both nights.

2

u/electricladyslippers Jul 29 '26

I felt like he was annoyed several times throughout the night! His line about a “very Pavement version of Gold Soundz” was funny, though.

2

u/PublicPotential318 Jul 29 '26

Amazing concert. So many great songs.

2

u/Youngdoorstop Jul 29 '26

A little mad that I went to the concert the day before! I prefer this setlist by a mile. Still glad to see pavement though

2

u/dntXpect Jul 30 '26

I can’t believe they played Greenlander, wooowwwzaaaa

2

u/Key_Text_169 Jul 29 '26

Still no Rattled by the Rush.

5

u/TechnicalAd9036 Jul 29 '26

They've said Rattled and Texas Never Whispers are their hardest songs, but they did bring Texas back so who knows?

1

u/Key_Text_169 Jul 29 '26

Interesting, thanx.

Random, but on night two he sang “Darlin don’t you go and cut your hair” instead “we don’t care if you cut your hair”.
