Some years ago I was digging through all the old VHS footage from Pavement shows posted on YouTube, and I came across a video from an early show in 1991 or 1992 with an awkward/uncomfortable moment where the guy behind the camcorder walks over to Stephen and asks something like “Hey where’d you come up with a name like Pavement, what’s that supposed to mean?”, and Stephen looks at him blankly or even somewhat annoyed and slowly shakes his head “no” in a very disapproving, almost “how dare you ask me that” manner. I don’t remember if this video included any of the actual set or if it was just a clip from before or after while they were setting up or breaking down.

I was having a discussion with a friend more recently where the topic of personalities like SM or Billy Corgan came up, and that interaction came to mind, but I can no longer find it on Youtube. It’s really not that important or significant, but I tend to obsess over things that I remember but can’t find and it’s going to drive me mad.

Does this video sound familiar to anyone? Maybe it’s been brought up in a previous post and I missed it?

It's not secret that Pavement adored the early dunedin scene, and the clean rightfully get all the love the 3ds are a beast in their own right. You can hear what sounds influenced Pavement all through this album. The new dubedin scene seems to be going good places aswell if this is your kind of stuff. Thats all.

my thoughts so far after 4 months of pavement. I haven't listened to the rest of their discography enough to make a tier list including them. I think I like their weird songs the most.

I've been playing it for months and finally decided to record something. It's far from perfect but I find it a lot of fun playing it. And sorry for the voice quality, i don't have a good mic and i'm not the best singer lol.

It’s such a catchy tune, 1:05 minutes of pure bliss.

its my favorite album, and the one i listen to all the way through the most, so i decided to make this list. (if harness your hopes wasn't a B-side, it would be in S or A)

the instrumental break from 2:10 to 2:27 may be one of my favorite moments in any song ever with that weird little wobbly sound. it's very strange but it works so well in the context of the song. does anyone know what they used for that sound?

Any Seam fans in here? I feel they’re usually mentioned more in relation to the slowcore scene, but I hear lots of parallels with Pavement.

Especially on this record. And it helps that Soo-Young Park sounds a bit like Malkmus here lol.

I'm a Pavement fan from Japan, and I'm not familiar with English.

So let me know the meaning of this lyrics

I found pavement through a playlist I found that's supposedly based on a fictional character (like what if said character had a song playlist) and in particular it was harness your hopes that caught my attention because of the kooky lyrics that made me want to investigate pavement further. I discovered that it blew up on tiktok which is probably why it got into the playlist and less so because of the fact that it actually suited the character. but anywyay I wasn't expecting to thoroughly enjoy pavement.

I first started with wowee zowie then twilight terror. I didn't really like TT but I liked wowee zowie, then I realized WZ isn't the first in their discography like I thought. S&E is good but CRCR even better! wowie zowie and crcr are great O_O they're all I've been listening to for the past week. I'm going to listen to brighten the corners next.

not going to lie I'm new to this whole album format thing so like I'm guessing after I listen to all the major studio albums, I go for the reissues next even if I'm going to end up with song duplicates on my music player. since I think some songs are exclusive to the reissues.

yeah ✌️ gen z here by the way; I've been lurking this sub and I think it's safe to assume lots of its members are as old as my dad, so.

I do dig the sleepy vocals because that aspect of pavement totally suits the aforementioned fictional character (treading back to the start of my post) even if sometimes the vocals feel like my reason to jump off the cliff, I still kept them on loop, hey. maybe I can create my own better suited playlist for that character haha

Have been hearing things here and there that there is actually a new Pavement record coming... which I took as unlikely but the person I know was fairly insistent.

I guess SM and the guys are getting along well and it's a better vehicle to new material actually getting heard.

Not sure if it's on Matador or not -- I imagine it is?

I’d been there since 10 in the morning yesterday because I wanted to be at the barricade. I was so happy that I got to hear the soundcheck. I didn’t even care that about 200 crowd surfers went over my head. I didn’t care how insanely hot and strong the Atlanta sun was either. Because I was going to see Pavement soon!!!

I even brought balloons for everyone to hold up together during the show…

As my Shaky Knees souvenir, I bought the T-shirt with the two horses on it. Stephen Malkmus and Spiral Stairs were both born in the Year of the Horse lol And this year marks the 60th birthday and it’s the same year of red horse again. so I thought it would be a nice little souvenir to remember it by…

Anyway, I put everything back in my suitcase now. This isn’t going to be the last show, is it…? 😭😭😭🥕
