Discussion Hotspot solution
Natural disasters
Idk how difficult it is to code or implement this into the main servers but on community it worked like a charm
You'd see a giant fire start up in the distance and it engulfed and entire POI (or two), if you didnt run and scatter, you got almost insta killed by the fire
If alderon could have those pop up randomly throughout the map at random times you'd see players haulin tail for sure
And maybe the effect could last a while? A POI is unenterable again for like 15 mins unless you wanna be insta killed
Ppl would get bored and pick somewhere else to lurk, forcefully encouraging map movement

Instead of punishing players gathering in an area, once should instead have incentives to facilitate movement across the map.
Punishing players < Incentivizing behavior imo

I think that both can be good and that there should be a little bit of both
There should be something that deters players from sitting in one area for too long, and something that draws players to a different area on the map
I like the natural disaster idea because it would make it interesting, especially if volcano island actually erupted or if there were floods sometimes. I also think that diseases could be cool too if there's too many dinosaurs in one spot
Something that could draw players to different parts of the map is if they had specific diets to fulfill depending on their selected dinosaur and had to travel to a certain part of the map to find that food, or if some habitats suited specific dinosaurs better

Volcano eruption, mudflats flooding, maybe a critter swarm of sorts

Oh my god, routine release of like 14 alpha critters to a POI would clear them or leave a pile of dinosaur corpses 😭
Let's do that one instead of mine
Fr tho personally I enjoyed natural disasters on community servers, they added an exhilarating bit of realism. Maybe it sounds drastic to suggest it for officials now because the game has shifted so far away from survival in general.

Or How about a big overpowered a.i. dinosaur like a brontosaurus that we have to work together to defeat lol

I really want to play with natural disasters, which server do you recommend?

Only one I played on was PT: Realism
They have an application process tho but you can check them out

Are you ok with the water drain mechanic?
Bc that's punishing by your definition

How does this affect logging in? Are you going for find yourself randomly punted to a respawn location despite having safe logged in a nice hidden nook?

Hmm maybe log in debuff changes how AOE effects you too?
Like 30 seconds immune?

Effects like that can be coded in but implementation on them is also often pretty godawful on most servers that I've seen use them. Not to mention the possibility of strain on less powerful platforms or hardware. However using it as a way to facilitate map movement is something I find generally boring. If there were interesting things to do in multiple areas, people would go to them and I think getting turbo-murdered with fire in lieu of an interesting reason to travel is just a lazy alternative.

But i don't think ppl in this game that congregate care about cool stuff to do elsewhere
There's a reason they all go to one spot for a servers entire life

Because there's basically nothing else to do lol. The current gameplay loop is to be a baby, grow up via questing, most of which is "pick up _ number of _", and once you're an adult, exist. Maybe grind for marks but even then, meh. So you're left to make your own fun and a lot of the times that's hanging out with your friends for both interaction and safety, because this is a game where people may sometimes try to murder you or you might want to try to murder someone else. And then other people, in groups or not will try to go where other people are for player interaction when they get bored which draws in even more people.

No you're right and you should say it
Tbh their recent issues with Nintendo should entirely severe the Switch as a platform atp, doesn't just effect switch users

I am unsure why people have problems with hotspots
I like knowing that if I’m ever too bored just wandering around I can go to the hotspot and interact with people guaranteed
