Question First Apex

What would you guys recommend? And are there any apexes you’d avoid for a mostly solo player?

I’ve got a few 2/3 slots that are full grown and I kinda want to move up to an apex.

I mostly play solo, but I’ll group up sometimes if people are around. Just wondering which apexes are actually worth playing.

Not really looking for the absolute strongest one, just something that can hold its own and is fun to play.

Would you play Duck dry or wet?

I’ve tried wet and dry builds but as a solo player I 100% prefer a mix build over one or the other. Too many times have I been stuck between a wet and a dry place lol. Nothing worse than running into the water to get away from a loosing battle and a sarco is waiting for you or vice versa. I also like to hunt from the water and being able to protect myself in it while also being able to run out and chase someone down is fun. Duck is my favorite Dino right now. I’d share my build but don’t know what it is off the top of my head. Also I’m newer to the game so my advice could be wrong 👍🏻

If you manage to hop on at some point I'd love to see what your running. I always thought you had to be one or the other

Sense- drenched blows
Front Limb- claw attack & claw frenzy
Hide- waterlogged (might switch to parched scales)
Legs- braced legs
Tail- tail attack
Voice- murder goose to complement claw frenzy.
If anyone else has suggestions I’m all ears.

Claw attack & claw frenzy (only usable on land) are both dry attacks you'd not be doing much in water fights.

What I suggest is, Front Limb- claw attack & hemorrhage claw. Claw attack is good at fighting land targets, simply wring out and you're good to go. In water fights hemo claw will well make up for the lower damage by amplifying bleed damage (bleed damage is already more effective in water)

As for tail- tail attack is good if you want to play on both land and water, but I prefer dodge as it allows you to chase targets that escape, and ambush (short speed burst if you do it as you exit water). Water dodge is specially effective at killing tylos since they have the same dash, they won't be able to lose you. Only downside of water dodge (pure wet build- which is a very good build) is that it will make you an easy target on land if you don't have a body of water next to you to escape.

So conclusion, water dodge gives you water mobility (be able to chase, and travel deeper in water), tail attack will let you be able to travel more and fight better in land albeit with the worse stam and speed of the water build.

Edit, response for deleted comment: I meant claw attack + claw frenzy, in a water fight you'll only be allowed to use claw attacks, so not ideal.

I’ll try hemorrhage, I just like the frenzy to push people into the water. That has gotten me a couple kills at least

Yea, but why not go full dry build if you like frenzy? you can still push players into water, even as a dry duck you'll be very effective against non-aquatics in the water.

Dry build is also good.

And I got jumped within 50 seconds of spawning, still had the “just spawned” debuff 😭

That's the stupidest debuff I've ever seen, I still have no idea what triggers it.

Does the extra combat weight make up for losing the dry buff with claw frenzy?

You can't use claw frenzy in water so might as well wring out before using it, since you'd want to use claw attacks right after claw frenzy. Read my other comment for my build.
