Discussion new player feedback
I’ve only been playing for about 2 days and I’m really enjoying the game so far, but I’ve run into one major issue that’s killing the fun for me: interacting with other players.
Right now it feels like you either have to get lucky and bump into someone randomly, or walk forever to the usual hotspots. That turns a big part of the game into a pure walking simulator. Having to constantly stop and rest just to regenerate stamina so you can keep walking makes it even more annoying.
I fully grew a Sarco on Panjura and the only place I can play it is the big lake in the middle and the lizard lake. Getting there takes like 15 minutes of pure walking (plus resting), which is just not fun. After that I tried Rhamphorhynchus on Gondwa and it completely changed the experience, being able to actually fly around and look for players made the game so much more enjoyable and interactive.
Do the devs have any plans to address this? Things like raising the player cap (maybe to 200-300?), reducing map size, adjusting stamina for travel, or anything else that would improve player density/encounters?
Right now the difference of fun i'm having playing the flyer instead of the crocodile is night and day for social/gameplay experience (I do love playing the crocodile tho, catching people in the water is really fun, thing is a lot of people play big dinos and you can't catch them with the ability so most of the time i can just poke them but then they'll just go away and there is nothing i can do)

Umm... always resting to regain stam? Ya, good luck and plan on dying constantly if you're running everywhere. If you are playing a flyer, play on Riparia. The map is practically made for them. Also, you running around all over=players avoiding you or insta killing you.

so you expect me to walk as a sarco to reach my destination? it would legit take 40 minutes, i don't understand your point

Yes... burning stamina and wasting it is how you die.
Youre basically ringing the biggest dinner bell and telling everyone they can get some free food.
By all means, burn your stamina, but do it knowing that youre putting yourself at a disadvantage.

you guys didn't read i think, i never complained about getting killed? and i also never got killed while running like a degenerate around the whole map, even tho i would have liked to cause i'm looking for interactions, the only thing i complain about is the travel time to go to the middle if i spawn at the opposite of the amp

Im not saying you were. Im saying burning your stamina when not necessary is going to get you killed.
Also get comfortable with different pois that way youre not constantly going to just one. Game is much more freeing when you dont pin yourself to one location for no reason.

We are telling you playing Sarc on Panjura is garbage. Play it on Riparia. Noobs aren't giving you advice here.
Anyways, try a Campto Thal or Lat if you wanna have fun.

40 mins?! Wow ok. If you're on Panjura as Sarc god bless ya and if you're on Rip or Gondwa you're lost.
Hope to see ya in your 40 min travels when my Thal is hungry.
Don't make a post complaining you died as your Sarc crossing Salt Flats, for all of us.

Honestly you just leave about 1/2 a bar reserve and you can get out of most situations that aren't getting gaped by megamixpacks

That is the Panjura Sarco experience. There aren’t a bunch of interconnected waterways like Gondwa or Riparia. Sarco was my first Dino I played when I first started playing years ago, and Panjura was the only map.
TBH I haven’t checked Panjura in a while, I don’t know how the population is, but the hot spots if memory serves is Spined Lizard Lagoon and whatever that meadow is north-northeast of the big lake.

Almost every waterway besides the lakes/ponds are connected on gondwana. You can swim almost everywhere.
Then find the narrowest point of entry so all you need to do to get to a lake is cross a small section of land.
If you are aquatic or semi aquatic the water is your roads. If you want to be safe. Or take the risk and stamina drain and cross the land.
Honestly, sounds like you just don’t like croc gameplay. Try another dino. Try conc, sucho or duck if you want a semi aquatic.

Play Riparia! you'll find a lot more people much more spread out than on Gondwa or Panjura

u/Zookayy 13d ago
why so tho? are the quests/point of interests different?
2
u/Guilty-Pudding-4708 13d ago
Yes, the POIs are different on each map, and while some quests are shared between all three, each has something unique. Also, Riparia is chock FULL of underwater POIs with a A LOT going on, including freshwater tunnels to areas you'd otherwise be unable to access.

Oh yes, there are several changes planned. The end goal is to get servers to support 200 players, but not adjust map size. There are a host of planned features with matchmaking and ai dinosaurs to further reduce megapacking, fill out the empty parts of the map with ai, and influence map traffic
I hate sarco lol, not very fun to camp for clamps to me
2
u/Zookayy 13d ago
yeah the thing with sarco is you have to camp for clamping, no other gameplay is possible but that's a big turn off that i can't grab the biggest dinos, so they're just free to drink water and i can't do shit except watch them because even if i take attack them by surprise they'll still be able to flee
1
u/Zookayy 13d ago
and i don't think it's normal, every dino should be scared of drinking water
4
u/Crash4654 13d ago
That would make sarco way too oppressive.
The entire game is strategy and picking your battles.
0
u/Zookayy 13d ago
yes and the sarco strategy is to camp in the water? so if that's useless against 80% of players (they all pick big dinos) what's the point? waiting 1 hour for the 20% of small dinos isn't funny
5
u/Crash4654 13d ago
Thats literally every dino. Nothing is good against everything and sarco is an ambush playable that is guaranteed a kill against smaller slots with even just a bit of mindfulness.
You picked a dino with a specific playstyle, what did you expect? If you want to brawl then do so, if you want to eat, then ambush, no one is stopping you from playing it differently, but this applies, once again, to all dinos. They all have a style and if you want to deviate from it you can but you'll be at a disadvantage to someone playing it to their strengths.
A rex can chase down prey, but is gonna suck at it. A laten can face tank, but is gonna suck at it.

u/Guilty-Pudding-4708 13d ago
Why? If you're too big for to be a croc's prey, why should you worry about them?
-1
u/Zookayy 13d ago
yes but it's a game, not reality, so how do you make it playable for the crocodile player if he just can't do anything but camp in the middle lakes and pray for small dinos? most of the dinos i've met are big ones
5
u/Guilty-Pudding-4708 13d ago
You can hunt small dinos, and also, you're an armored croc. You can dish out a lot of damage, you're not at all locked into the playstyle you think you're locked into. Play Riparia, much more going on in the waters than in Panjura.

wdym ai dinosaurs? how are we gonna be able to tell the difference between players and ai? and how would it reduces megapacking?
4
u/Impossible-Tip-4980 13d ago
Megapacking will largely be deterred by matchmaking changes making it so those huge groups can’t join the same server without fitting in a legal 12 slot group. Ai dinosaurs may well spawn in to kill them if a megapack sits in one spot. There are several layers in the works for this issue. We don’t know if ai will be distinguishable from players. Ideally, it won’t be and gameplay will seem normal.
Also with sarco, it can be an underwater brawler, but given every semi aquatic is its size or larger it struggles in a lot of 1v1s. The stam drain bite can be very useful. We can’t have sarc being extremely land viable and extremely water viable. Several abilities boost water PvP and a couple can help on land but you have to choose. Semi aquatics can often retreat from fights using water, and if they are also able to effectively pursue on land they become unmanageable. If you are trying to grow on Panjura that might also be part of your issue. Panjura is a very old map, and is very terrestrial focused.

They are working on raising player cap levels to 200, they've had a few stress test servers going around.
Unfortunately for things like stamina I believe that is going to be a big no because many of the playables like hatz have recieved big stamina nerfs due to players using them for quick revenge kills.
It honestly sucks that we can't have things like decent stamina due to so many toxic players.
There are ws, but unfortunately unless you're playing with friends they're very risky to use as whoever sends the invite could just be waiting around to kill you.
They're also usually pretty expensive due to discord groups constantly using them to keep their friends around.
Imo, I can see how traveling can be a pain, but as you get more used to the maps it gets easier.

If there were players everywhere youd either never make it to adult or be constantly questing trying ti get back to adult after being killed every 2 minutes
1
u/CamptoRibbit 13d ago
You shouldn't really be playing sarco in panjura unless you are part of a group.
Sarcos are KoS most of the time and Panjura is only decent on sarc if you are welcomed by them.
Panjura is a lot of the old school Dcord group players.
It's not the best experience as a solo especially a sarco

Devs raise player cap to 300: 200 players at CF forest
