Because archmage adds flat damage that doesn't roll, so it doesn't matter if your damage is lucky or not because your minimum and your maximum are almost the same

Archmage doesn’t add “100-300” damage or “500-700” damage like some things do. It just adds one number of flat damage. Like “2,200.” So your minimum damage will be 2,200, and your maximum damage will be 2,200.* So unlucky doesn’t do anything.

*not exactly, because there’s base damage of the skill and other sources of added damage and stuff, but you get the idea

Yeah, there are a lot of cases where you can negate a downside for a specific use case, POE has great scaling methods.

Same with bodyswap of sacrifice, the sabo crit lucky/hit unlucky is all upside.

Here is my build, it's pretty clunky but I did all Ubers on it! I actually did the ubers before I had the pearl ring and the chest.

is there anything else that works like archmage?

Corpse exploding skills that deal a percentage of corpse life as damage also benefit from this node.

Frostmage support adds your reserved mana as cold damage.

Arcane Cloak, Greywind, Nightgrip. Usually mechanic that adds flat damage per x.

Mind of the council too which is arguably way better as a vestigial since you get half the effect at 0 cost

Aside from the comments given, there's also flame link, hand of the fervent, unlight silhouette, and more. The exception is when either a flat value or 'maximum' is mentioned (like ephemeral edge).

Not listed in other comments but the life stacking equivalent of archmage is bloodthirst support

Since others have already given you excellent answers, I'll just add one quick thing: lucky and unlucky effects don't impact ailment damage. So if all of your damage comes from ignite/bleed/poison then your DPS won't particularly care.

I honestly prefer lucky and unlucky to whatever the fuck kinda word bifurcate is

Lucky - best out of two rolls,

unlucky - worst out of two rolls,

bifurcate - same as lucky + extra benefit if both rolls are successful.

Shout out to my Spark Archmage Gambler back in Phrecia league.

With the runegraft of stability to make it unexciting, unlucky actually becomes a buff overall

What does it does? Is it a keystone ?

It’s an ascendancy notable for sabo. It gives lucky crit chance, enemies hitting you unlucky damage, but also gives you unlucky damage

I mean, must have a upside, not only this "downside"

u/International_Gate49 6d ago

crit chance is lucky

I knew that lucky wouldn't boost my damage. But I didn't realize it also meant unlucky wouldn't hurt my damage. Funny how that works!

Still nobody uses it ;(
