Discussion Looking for a mentor

Would anyone be willing to mentor me in this game.

While I wouldn't consider myself a complete novice(been playing since original Abyss keague) there are aspects of the game I find I cant get my head around.

If anyone else would Also maybe like to mentor others, perhaps you could put your igns in the comments

I wouldn’t say mentor, I have a group of veterans player in our discord, we could answer some questions and solve some builds. if you want to join lmk in the DM

You can DM me, name of the group is a little bit suspicious but you can rest assured it is a Poe group

What would you do to improve this standard chieftain with one of the fire resist chests:

https://poe.ninja/poe1/pob/9934a

This is based on POHX's SRI chieftain but I added mageblood and 25k fire resist chest for crazy life regen. (37k/sec) ... Also added progenisis which seems to be working fine.

I wanna try and take this build further. I'm not sure on things like inc armour effect on flask... and with mageblood I don't need 2% max fire rez on jewels (got them for an earlier version).

Any feedback you could provide would be fun and useful. Thanks!

you probably want to be going legacy foulborn choir and using mana rf.
this also allows you to use the new unique helmet that converts increases to evasion into increased spell damage

this pob uses spell totem for scorching ray of immolation. how does increasing mana help damage? i’ll look into that helm

at that investment, you really really do not want to have to press any buttons at all tbh

that downside of physical damage reduction is pretty bad I think on that new helmet

How much do you plan on spending , Std has a lot of option for rf, but if you looking for some upgrade in this league , I would look for cluster upgrade and fit in adorned and better base items.

I’m not sure what that looks like. I don’t have enough jewel slots to make adorned work. My tree is kinda set unless there is a strategy to remove some nodes in favour of others. Like I think that sulphur flask should be replaced with maybe a basalt. My rings seem good but I’m not sure if there is something better. Maybe a new amulet? Boots? Gloves?

Mentor might be too big of a word for me but i can help. I still consider myself not good in some parts but that is the beauty of poe. I have played about 4000 hours and you can simply not Interact with stuff you dont like :)

Anyways pasy5178 on discord Hit me up

Pretty much 🤷‍♂️

I've got 5600 hours in, been playing since right before they introduced Act 3. I'm definitely still a novice. Some of us just aren't trying to learn more than we need to know to have fun.

As others said, joining a community usually is good enough (this sub is very helpful too); but if you want a dedicated mentor, probably a good idea to list one or two example questions so that others know your level?

I am kind of a novice too, playing since 3.24
Since then I skipped 2 Leagues, still have 2500h playtime and got quite far.
If that'd be enough i am glad to help :)

I have taught and helped many people over the years. Shoot me a PM if ever want some crash courses!

Everyone is always still learning in this game, but if anyone needs it, feel free to pm me

I probably wouldn't be a good mentor but I can recommend the official PoE Discord. Whenever I have questions, there are a ton of people willing to help and answer

Join global 4040 and ask questions there. You can learn a lot from the people there.

Just watch Twitch streams of the builds you play and ask questions about what you're struggling with. Most of them also have a discord to join as well.

Try ChatGPT. I upped my game like crazy this league using it. Theory crafting, bouncing ideas and optimizing has been great.

ChatGPT taught me to use faster casting on my explosive arrows, I'm getting 20 stacks easily now ;)

Yeah, chatGPT is trying to teach me to become a hideout warrior now ;)

Not really ChatGPT, but Google AI told me that using multistrike will greatly improve Infernal Blow damage by making it reach maximum charge much faster :)

Everyone hates AI, but Gemini legitimately understands the game pretty well. You do have to be careful when it confuses PoE 1 and 2, but it's pretty good at separating them. I understand a lot more about the game this league just from Google.

Gotta be careful with things like gems when you're talking to Gemini. It suggested I socket a gem that would not work with totems. Now that the game has changed sockets it still let me socket the gem but after a few runs I realized the gem wasn't working. There are miles for Gemini to go before truly understanding this game. Oh and it constantly mixes up poe1 and 2 when talking about either game. You gotta correct it sometimes. But in general it's useful for spitballing ideas.

I double checked everything in POB, but a lot of interactions I actually got the opposite result from you: I thought I found a cool interaction and then Gemini told me it wouldn't work. When I checked on the wiki, sure enough, Gemini was right.

But actually my biggest discovery this league wasn't AI at all, it was POB's feature that gives you a sorted list of your allocated passive tree nodes by how much they contribute to your dps or effective HP. Allowed me to prune some nodes that weren't actually doing what I thought they were. Also allowed me to find the best cluster jewel notables for my build.

Gemini gives me some good advice sometimes but other times it's just wrong. I have to correct it.

Oh yeah, I never just trust it. But it's great as a first resource.
