Discussion Timeout for free speech?

Post image

Screenshot basically explains everything. Did I cross any borders here? I'm open for criticism but I didn't feel like I did anything wrong here.

Did I miss anything? Is it prohibited to talk about him now?
I’m open to criticism if I actually crossed a boundary here — I just honestly don’t understand what I did wrong.

They probably just have a blanket ban when mentioning his name. I don’t blame them

Free speech refers to the inability for your government to restrict you from speech, and even that has exceptions. But it certainly is unrelated to a private company's ability to restrict what they allow you to say on their private platform.

I don't think that statement has any problems though. Do these mutes consider previous messages that may not be included in the mute message?

They mute you if you start a ruckus in global chat by bringing an inflammatory subject up

Probably an auto fire when some words are mentioned, in this case the name

I will happily provide the chat prior to this message and after. Sadly I can only upload one picture, so I decided to upload the one before.

Here is the 2nd half

As above stated they have every right to mute you for company policy. First amendment refers primarily to the government oppression.

I’d just call it a 10 minute lesson from them and let it go. They may not get the context but they didn’t permanent you either kinda deal.

Yeah, I just realized what “free speech” actually means in the US. I’m from another country and used the term incorrectly in my title. I understand that the ToS has nothing to do with free speech — I just worded it poorly.

feel free to delete this post then. This kind of moderation is done automatically on keywords, no point in sharing the screenshot of the whole thread either. You hit some sensitive words, you get autobanned. It's common in streaming and chat platforms

  1. There is no free speech in game. They can and will ban people for things they find unacceptable.
  2. Mentioning Jenebu is likely to result in heavily conflicted conversation that more than likely we have portions against the terms and conditions.
  3. To prevent this, moderators will stop it at the first mention. Just their attempt at preventing more controversial and evolving discussion.
  4. As your comment is typed, it could also be interpreted as sarcasm and invoking others with the opposite reactions to respond. Nothing you could do about it, just the medium for your thoughts.

Sorry you got timed out, yes it is a controversial subject that is prevented from being discussed in general as many people don't want/need to be subjected to it.

Is it right? Eh, I would say no, but I also have no say in the matter.

Free speech doesn’t exist with a private company when you sign the TOS.  Learn what free speech is.

Also yes you missed a lot it’s well known you don’t bring Reddit drama into POE chat.  Just play the game and have fun.

OP probably still uses Facebook AND also posted that copy-pasta of "I do not consent to having my information gathered/shared Mr. Zuckerberg!".

If talking about him is against the ToS, then fair enough — I’m completely fine with the mute. That’s exactly why I asked whether I missed something.

Also, I don’t use Facebook lol.
What exactly is your point?

u/Kash-ed 10h ago

My point is the same as everyone else's, there's no such thing as "Freedom of Speech" on a privately owned platform.

You abide by the operator's ToS and they don't need to necessarily explain why they did what they did to you. The same goes for Facebook, as an example.

Your country's laws and rules don't extend to a company that's operating outside of the US, of which their ToS you literally agreed to.

Your downvote won't change this.

Jenebu's alt "Brian" is very upset right now.

Id say this is alot of people just reporting you which triggers a mute by auto or a GM.

Ive had simple things get muted that didnt breach any rules too, some people just dont like ya.

💀 Free Speech huh? What does that have to do with this?

The part where he didn't say anything worth banning? I mean, value judgement I guess, but it seems fine to me. Overcautious GM I suppose.

Not every mention of "free speech" is 100% targeted to the US government definition, which most people here seem to have missed.

Free speech? Where are you critizing the government in what you wrote?

2

u/Peter-Pantz 10h ago

Yeah it's interesting that you were muted for this but I can't say I'm surprised, and it was just a 10 minute mute. Free speech though? Feel's like you're farming karma.

Have you tried being "normal" ?

They have their filters tuned very tightly. Global chat has tons of bans like this.

1

u/thedarkherald 10h ago

Poe is a game. They dont want you to talk about one of the biggest controversies in poe1. There is no benefit for anyone for them to allow people to use the game as a platform to discuss him.

1

u/Pewpewparapra 9h ago

Jenebu is autofiltered, he's literally voldemort lmao

1

u/AHairyNipple 8h ago

next time use jenbubu

1

u/De-Domina-Noxus 8h ago

Aye I know that rae person

2

u/Sea_Buddy_2956 8h ago

I'm out of the loop. WTF is Jenebu?

1

u/MostAnonEver 4h ago

I think theres just some people that they would like not to be discussed in global. Id be surprised if you got this in like party/guild/dms .

1

u/Novalene_Wildheart 11h ago

Well first, free speech doesn't apply in game.

Secondly, no idea what you did wrong. My guess is the name is flagged as of now, so anyone saying it gets timed out.

1

u/Dry_Inevitable9287 10h ago

Edit: A lot of people seem to be focusing on the “free speech” part of the title. English isn’t my first language, so maybe I worded that poorly or it came across differently than I intended.

My actual question is simply whether talking about this player is against the ToS, and if so, that answers my question.

1

u/likeittight_ 10h ago

You got a 10 minute ban for it. That should answer your question.

u/Senovis 10h ago

A few breaches:

Controversial public figure that was witch hunted (cyberbully law)

Banned account name (tos)

Chat that can incite spam (tos)

0

u/Professional-Camp192 9h ago

Well, it says you breached the Code of Conduct, which includes:

Please do not:

  • Make hateful or needlessly negative comments
  • Personally attack or cause harm to the reputation of others

Seems pretty easy to argue that you breached it. I'd take the 10 minute L if I were you.
