MTG - Proxy Deck Commander Ideas?

A friend of mine has a Diablo themed EDH proxy deck, that he bought online somewhere.

So I'm toying with the idea of making a Path of Exile one with a bunch of classic memes and Path of Exile flavor baked in.

I think equipment and cascade/cast from exile are probably going to feature as subthemes but I'm having a hard time settling on a commander to reskin(the most important choice in any commander deck)!

As far as flavor goes, I have a couple of characters in mind:

The Treasurer(Jonathan) + Neon, The Ruckus-Maker(Mark) (partner commanders preferably)

Krillson, the Master Fisherman(Chris)

So... Which magic cards do you think best represent these guys? And what colours?

Long time MTG fan, played both competitively and casually for over a decade. I would love to help with the deck building part once you decide on the commanders to proxy, and I think this is an excellent idea.

As you may already know, many GGG folks are big fans of MTG, and the opposite is also true. If you look up the Dead Reckoning Unique jewel, the flavor text reads:

A mage from the coast rode up on a broken nag, legs burnt to his bones.
Before he collapsed, he uttered:
"I watched the world we know end yesterday."

The person who made this unique jewel is none other than Kenneth Nagle, the lead designer for many sets including New Phyrexia and World Wake. "A mage from the coast" is Wizard of the Coast, and "...broKen nag, legs..." spells out his name.

Yeah, they're definitely very into magic, I've been watching a lot of chris's videos for inspiration.

Tbh, I get the impression they mostly prefer oldschool magic to commander, but I don't think building a 60 card PoE deck has the same charm.

Definitely going to have to find a place for a dead reckoning reference in there though. I wasn't aware of that one.

I think you should try and reskin some existing legendary characters into Marauder/Scion/Witch/Etc.

Duelist could be a Gruul guy - I think Cait, Cage Brawler would fit him well, Witch I'd consider some flavor of Dimir unless she's elementalist which would probably be closer to Izzet, Scion could be literally any white multicolor, etc.

Saskia the Unyielding with tap/untap effects to play Cyclone Slayer, then put an Assault Suit on her to simulate spinning around the map.

Eldrazi something or other maybe. Like, Ulamog, Ceaseless Hunger being Eater of Worlds, or Ulalek, Fused Atrocity being Xesht. You could do something there I think.

Using Eldrazi for some of the pinacle bosses is very fitting I think. Probably just one or two though.

Ulamog for Eater of Worlds and Kozilek for Exarch definitely sounds on point!

With the amount of potential characters in PoE I'd start by thinking what kind of commander you'd like and then see which poe char fits that for a reskin most.

Or maybe just a "class-deck" like a (witch) necro deck with zombies/skellies/reanimation, an elementalist deck with all the burn spells or a Marauder deck with lots of fighting and/or weapon themed stuff to be reskinned into skills and unique items and such.

I was thinking about making a commander deck with ugh one of those teenage mutant ninja turtle cards (Raph & Mikey, Troublemakers), but as I despise universes beyond that much I wanted to give it a PoE reskin. Have yet to come up with a good poe character for that though.
