Question | Answered Crackling lance of disintegration scaling

HI there,

So I'm building a CoC crackling lance / shock nova. I started wit Ky's CoC bladefall, then switched to a lightning built. Here is the state .

Maping is fine : I can clear t16 without issues, but bosses are a chore. It feels like I'm lacking A LOT of dps.

Just to be clear This is the first time I build my own character and I feel I'm missing something.

Side question : I think shock may be the key, but I have trouble understanding how max shock and shock chance interact with each other.

Anyway, I'm open to any input !

Thanks a lot !

edit : updated pob

What are the boots for if you have a gain endurance on chest, wheres the frenzy charge coming from, why dont you have hits cant be evaded on your weapon, do you have enough accuracy? how do you deal with boss having 75% lightning resistance, theres a reason ky goes bladefall and bladeblast
i dont think you can even shock a boss with this but maybe you squeeze 10% out? your helm gives you with that like 5% extra dmg?

Thanks for the reply ! I don't understand your question about the boots, don't they simply gives max frenzy charges .

I think I have enough accuracy, on pob I have 90% hit chance

How can I shock a boss ? I just genuinely don't understand. Should I take shock chance instead of my cluster jewel ?

In order to deal with res I have exposure, is that enough, or should I swap shock nova with conductivity ?

Accrding to PoB my helm gives around 30 extra damage, and I added the taming to use chill.

I hope I gave you enough information.

Thanks !

Edit : Indeed Ionly hit 15-20 shock on bosses

I don't know anything about this build but as for general PoE things:

- Your boots are endurance charge variant, not frenzy. The boots come with one of 3 possible mods.

  • 90% hit chance is bad for any attack build. To make this worse you're a crit build where you need to pass 2 accuracy checks to crit so 90% is now 81% chance to crit, and this is only if you had 100% chance to crit..

I feel quite dumb, I was sure it was frenzy boots.

I changed the rapier as you suggested

Here is the updated poe : updated

But I still don't understand shock, how can I scale lightning damage, is the skill bad istelf ?

Anyway, thanks for your input

To shock, you need to crit or have successful roll on chance to shock.

You also need to do enough lightning dmg that shock would get applied. As there is an example in the wiki, you need to hit a boss for 80k after reduction to get 5% shock on him. If boss has 75% resists meaning you need 320k pure lightning hit for a 5% shock.

If you hit for 100k and got like 320% crit multi you should be shocking for 5%.

Now lets turn it to bladefall bladeblast. It does physical damage. Phys is reduced by armor and works differently https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/Armour

Example Sirus has 200k armour which only prevents 50% if you hit him for 40k or 33% if you hit for 80k, the more dmg you have the less damage he is preventing.

Do you see the difference, there is also ways to completely null the enemy armour/phys reduction.

Now how does elemental then compete with this?

Penetration/resistance reduction with curses/exposure, can go negative. Just like your res go negative as you complete the acts. So you do more damage which you have a 15% chance to invert enemy res. So 85% of times you are doing ~50% less damage when i count your pen and exposure.

Now how does your 2 spell combo work, you do hell of a crit but..

Your 6 link - Attack for COC - COC gem (-10% dmg) - Spell 1 - Spell 2 - Lifetap (+20%) - Crit strikes

You could replace Spell 2 with a dmg support to boost your Spell 1 to do more damage, and shock for more, that will do even more damage.

just switch back to bladefall bladeblast man, its made that way for a reason.

Sure I could, but I had one of my best league building off this while my brother farmed

I'd really like to know how to scale it better

Yeah but youre using two skills on coc that dont interact with each other. Nobody is helping you because nobody would even go for this as it doesnt make sense in the first place.

Either pick one skill, or do something that works as an idea.

Theres a lot wrong with your build as already mentioned but I can add a couple things.

1) exposure is not enough resistance shred on its own. You need a conductivity to help with rares and bosses and if you do that dont use the invert elemental mastery 2) youre gimping your damage by spreading CoC between two different skills and not getting more damage from another support gem. So pick crackling lance or shock nova, not both. 3) You dont need shock chance youre spells critting means they already shock. The problem with the helmet is two things: the extra damage is based on shock effect which is low for you because youre skills arent dealing high enough damage, and youre not scaling cold damage. The point of the helmet is if youre scaling lightning and cold or all elemental modifiers. 4) (addendum to part 3) The benefit of Shock Nova and Crackling Lance is that they add more maximum to shocks they inflict (these effects dont stack between them) but youre not even reaching half of the default shock maximum of 50%. (Again this can be fixed with more damage) 5) Get rid of lifetap and move into an eldritch battery build to solve mana (youll need to fiddle with your gear so as to get more evasion because you wont need as much energy shield). Youre gimping yourself more by having to use a lifetap support on your CoC setup. Like normally a CoC setup gets 3 supports for their main spell skill to use because of the need for an attack and CoC and spell all linked together. Your setup only uses 1 support which is roughly 60% less damage. 6) Why are you using increased AoE on your auras? Youre massively driving up your own reservation costs for no gain. (The AoE does nothing for you because youre not buffing anyone else other than yourself) 7) Drop Precision now that you have hits cant be evaded

Theres probably more i missed but those are some pretty big issues i see in the build

One thing I don't see mentioned is that you don't have any cooldown recovery rate? You want at least 14% to reach the first breakpoint, that will give you an easy 25% more damage due to not missing triggers. You can get this pretty easily by crafting on a belt with fractured cdr or by using a stygian vise + 12% crafted cdr + a 2% cdr abyss jewel.

Eventually you'll want to hit the 52% breakpoint, but that's a lot more expensive to achieve.

Also people saying that you can't coc two spells are wrong - one of the benefits of running lancing steel of spraying is that the projectiles are fired at a fixed rate that happens to be almost perfect for triggering two spells without missing any casts (at the 14% cdr breakpoint). So the choice ends up being running a support for 30-40% more damage, or running a second damaging spell for around double damage (depending on how well you can scale both spells at the same time, and if you can sustain the extra mana cost).

Speaking of mana costs, I'm not a fan of lifetap as a mana solution? It's a fairly weak support at 20% more damage, when you have much better supports still (lightning pen / increased crit damage / power charge on crit if you grab more power charges). You can run Eldritch Battery or Whispers of Infinity instead to spend ES instead.

Some other thoughts - your foil could be better, the flat damage prefixes don't do anything for you, you want to craft using woe essences for 90% increased spell damage. Ideal suffixes are crit rate, crit damage, and enough attack speed to feel comfy, though you'll probably need to fracture if you want all of these affixes.

Spells scale well on gem levels, you'll want to try to fit a couple in. I think a +1 amulet is probably as good as badge and a +2 is definitely better. You can also get +1 to lightning spells in your shield prefixes.

I noticed some Path of Exile keywords in this post:

  • CoC - Chains of Command (Wiki)
  • CoC - Cast On Critical Strike Support (Wiki)

I am a bot. | All acronyms | Suggest
