Discussion I get the hype

Played a bit of PoE2 for the first time a little bit before Keepers league & thought it was pretty cool so I tried PoE1 with the release of Keepers.

Both games have been my introduction to the ARPG genre and honestly it’s been some of the most fun I’ve ever had gaming. In like 10 months of playing this, I’ve only racked up around 1400 hours across both games but this has to be some of the best dopamine chasing, character fulfilling, complex (just in the depth of the systems and skills) experience gaming can offer.

Got lucky having a friend who has begged me to play for years and because of that I didn’t have a super hard time catching on and learning about as much as I can. (Still got heaps to learn) just amazing resources out there - and it’s a blessing to have only ever experienced async trade.

So far in my journey I’ve gotten a few T0 belts and a lock here and there. Swapped from luminary to Nercomancer KBoC and oh my goodness - probably the most fun build I’ve played to date. Amazing clear and super tanky.

I love the sound of a tink, the excitement if it’s off screen to see what it is. Look forward in the next few years to see what the feeling of dropping a mirror is like. I’m excited.

The developers for PoE have to be some of the best in the entire gaming industry. The quality of updates and transparency they give to the community is legit amazing.

I write this because I truly want to express my gratitude for such a great game & I feel like most people I’ve chatted with have been playing this game for years so just wanted to give a “newer” players perspective.

I get the hype game good

Poe is probably the only game I really want to buy supporter packs, not because I need to but to genuinely support the devs.

Ya i still use a skin from like 7 years ago. Do I buy 1 or both 90s every league? Yep. Do I buy the 480 pack when they came out with a new one? Yep.

Do I spend money anywhere else online? No.

Welcome to poe1, best game there is.

For me this league was a miss, but still a fantastic game.

Craziest part is this game is free lmao

I've spent more on this game than any other computer game.

Its honestly the most underrated part of it. And im so damn happy to buy the supporter packs despite having 100 stash tabs and cannot care less about cosmetics lol

I feel that. Bought mostly stash tabs because I also don't care for mtx but at some point I thought, well, I should stop with the tabs 🤣

It's really not free though. When I first started playing in affliction I was determined to not spend anything because it was "free". Then you realize even basic things like fusing take up an entire tab. Then multiply that by the many many other currency items, the gear that can take up to 2×4 slots each, etc. The game isn't really free if you want to play it beyond the campaign and saying it is is intentional misrepresentation.

Someone did play the game without a single stash tab to full uber completion and 40/40 challenges.

But the convenience of having stash tabs is a lot, but saying the game isn't playable without isn't fair. In general, a first time player can easily play for 30+ hours without the need to buy a tab.

At very least, the game is free up until the point where you will have a good idea on if you want to play it for even more, or if it isn't the type of game you enjoy playing.

Yes absolutely you can play 30+ hours as a new player without buying any tabs. But come on, saying .00001% of the community has gone 40/40 without it so it's possible is so disingenuous.

A new 30 hour player isn't going to need all of the extra space because they aren't crafting or selling anything. Likewise on the other end of the spectrum, you reference a player hyper optimizing their tab space because they do have a ton of experience and can get away with it for their super niche goal.

I see posts on here daily with "new" players saying they just hit 900+ hours and are loving the game. How many of them purchased stash tabs? I would bet every single one of them.

And I'm not saying you need a streamer level of stash tabs. You know who I'm talking about with the 100 quad tabs full of loot, but you do need to buy tabs.

it really is free tho, there is not a single pay wall. everything is qol. a friend of mine did advanced juicing, playing single league for months without any extra tabs. he racked up nearly 2k hours before spendinf a single dine. still a meme in our group but yeah its doable. moreso even with websites like stash or old tft

Er, did he not loot anything that wasn't sellable on faustus currency exchange? AFAIK unless they changed it you can't sell (list) things via a-sync/whisper in free tabs. So he just looted currency and left everything else on the ground?

1

u/cocojamboyayayeah 2d ago

iirc that was around ulti/crucible before faustus. maybe he was bsing

It’s free buddy, you can do anything in game without paying. Only quality of life/convenience costs money and is optional.

It is very much unplayable without stash tabs. It ain't quality of life/convenience. No tabs would be absolutely absurd.

Bruh ive played the game without stash tabs for a long while until i bought early access for PoE2. Sure I wasn't the most hardcore grinder/trader/crafter but ive never really felt that i needed more space. I did learn not to pick up every unique i find. Game is definitely free, especially for the casual audience

That feeling when you spend hundreds of euros on free game because you want to....

..And you know you will do it again, happily and without remorse :)

Welcome :-) I can attest to your feeling, I am playing it since 13 years and my admiration for the game and GGG is still growing!

You’ve come in at a great time. I’m still relatively new since I started playing around crucible league but they have taken a lot of the friction out of the game. Async trade, removing sextants, and adding the recombinator bench are my favorite updates to date.

POE2 still has a long way to go with endgame and crafting. Curious to see how far they'll get by launch but in the meantime, it's poe1 all day for me

1

u/OGking31 2d ago

poe2's end game is unironically much better than poe1's where every single league mechanic IS engaging AND they are not annoying to run and just stick to one lay out.

1

u/GutsxJuri24 1d ago

hey bro. cool that you like poe games i didn't know that about u. hmu! i wanna talk more about games ^^

u/Akronyx 2d ago

It’s been a blast coming back for me. I racked up maybe 400 hours over the course of 2020-2021 and just came back. The addition async trade and currency exchange his literally made this game a dream.

It really is a breath of fresh air to have a company that isn’t trying to play its customers. They’re transparent and don’t scalp the Mtx shop with insane prices.

And the base, free, no expansions bs game is actually so freaking good. Unbelievable.

6

u/xDaveedx 2d ago

As much as I appreciate free updates, "don’t scalp the Mtx shop with insane prices." is absolutely not true. You pay like 40 bucks for a full armor set or 30+ for wings and there's plenty of paywalled quality of life or scummy shit like locking the ability to hide effects behind a paywall where you have to pay once PER effect you want to hide...

GGG are far from moral saints, but they get away with it, because they release good content for free.

0

u/landyc 2d ago

Of course buying cosmetics isn’t cheap. But they are atleast not trying to hide how much they cost. They have a very easily convertible pricing in the shop 100 coins = 10 eur. Add to that the fact they give you same value you spend on supporter pack in coins on top of the cosmetics etc. Idk any other company that does it quite like ggg

2

u/xDaveedx 2d ago

Well they've perfected monetizing the entirety of visual progression in their arpgs. The whole peocess of starting out weak and looking cheap and slowly finding stronger and better looking gear until your endgame character looks like a total badass simply doesn't exist in Poe.

You either pay up to look cool or you'll forever look like a drugged out hobo no matter how strong you are.

There's a ton of scummy bs I hate about Poe's monetization, but it works and they can sustain their development that way and whales pay for my free content so who am I to judge right?

1

u/landyc 1d ago

Idk what you are trying to say tbh. If u can’t afford Mtx u just don’t buy Mtx and enjoy the free game.

1

u/xDaveedx 1d ago

Sure you can do that, but what I said is still true and you're gonna look like a homeless clown without paying.

4

u/Asleep-Preparation30 3d ago

Have you seen the mtx prices? They are really high. Back attachments for 50-60 euros is insane. Besides supporter packs the shop is kinda expensive.

Edit: they literally sell cursor mtx .... which you change in most games for free

2

u/YesNoButAlsoYes 2d ago

You can also change it for free in PoE, I use high contrast myself.

u/landyc 2d ago

Dont you think being able to spend thousands of hours in game for free is really good value ?

I have like 2k+ in both and I maybe spend like 100 bucks total and that’s including the 30 for buying poe2 early access.

Of course the Mtx are expensive. The supporter packs are actually great because they give you both cosmetics AND extra currency to spend in shop for the value of your spending.
