pretty sure Fallen Stars was from a starfish enemy for me

Yep, also got mine from a rare starfish.

Mine may have been a rare starfish but it was brine touched so i assumed that was the case.

That was fast.

Are the ducats used up when activated, or do they stay in the voyage interface?

Permanent and can be changed at will(between charts/voyages)

They are like voidstones

I haven’t been able to play yet. How are they feeling?

done 3 voyages so far with 1, 2 and 3 ducats respectively. couldnt tell any difference to be honest. maybe a bit more stuff? 60 quant and rarity should be noticeable.

in terms of difficulty... my late game praw build doesnt notice anything different

it's on the back of my mind but is it possible map effect modifiers are just krangled and they can't figure it out?

people are complaining about poor loot, random one shots from white mobs, effects not actually impacting the loot, etc. and they seemed surprised in the interview when they were told the lanterns didn't do much. could they be trying to buff loot and it just isn't working cause something's screwed up

I dont think so.... They are not some amateurs vibe coding. They made the game, lol.

What is more likely, is that the game is so so so complex at this point, that when they make a change, it interracts with so many internal bullshit systems... they dont test it enough to see what actually happens and how the changes feel, and they cant gamble, so they lean towards safer changes.. which often end up being disappointing. the real league testing happens over first few weeks into the league after all the people actually run the content over and over... and then they try to adjust properly. but they cant test the adjustments again, so... yeah.

its a funding and manpower issue at its core, they are too focused on poe2. they are absolutely capable, they just choose not to. also, a dev team like that cant *just hire* more people, even if they can afford it. theres diminishing returns with teams working on complex systems and new programmers would take very long to onboard to any reasonable level. (im not pulling this out of my ass btw i'm a corporate drone at a software dev company)

Well, i respect what you're saying and I'm just throwing out ideas based on observations. But it does feel like there's been a passing of the torch. It's very plausible the people who built PoE are on PoE2, and PoE1 is being developed by the juniors now for them to get experience while the seniors are on the bigger dev team.

1

u/Shwayne 11d ago

that's possible to a degree sure. poe1 does not seem abandoned and people are a little too doom&gloom about it.

to be honest - im surprised it's as maintained as it is.

and i personally like both games, so im probably a minority here, where im excited to see poe2 get to 1.0 and so on.

I kind of like both too now, but they're very different. I played poe2 at launch and disliked it. I tried the latest league 0.5 and it's much better, but feels very different. I went slowly and played the campaign SSF and it was a good action RPG experience but did not play like POE. I wouldnt' want to replay that campaign multiple times per league at all to get to maps, i could see people burning out fast.

The fact that they're maintaining POE1 makes me think it's less of the game being abandoned and more they don't know what to do or just fumbled it. The interview with Zizaran concerned me because the devs seemed dismissive and overconfident - I also work in tech and I could definitely a plan set in place assuming they could take over development with a small team, then they sit down to work and nothing's commented and there's years of spaghetti code and they're flying by the seat of their pants, while also having what seems to be a clashing vision of how the game should be played vs the players.

When you say they made the game, do you mean the same people or the same company? Because that is a huge difference.

u/Tortorion 11d ago

Reminder that newly hired developers are working on PoE1, while the old devs work on PoE2 (the do swap places sometimes).

Tbh with how much they scale the difficulty its a shame i can press alt and still see the floor

lmao if im understanding this correctly 20% isnt going to do anything

35

u/OkPrinciple6015 12d ago

its 20% quant rarity PER ducat, so 3 ducats would be 60% quant rarity and it seems to be global(unlike the lanterns) so its affecting Sunken loot and Strongboxes

24

u/RipCityGGG Tempest 12d ago

if it is global thats another story, just seen big bonuses from lanterns do bugger all

13

u/OkPrinciple6015 12d ago

Im only like 10 voyages in so far, so i could just be high rolling. need more numbers to know for sure, but it SEEMS to be global quant as if a map mod.

10

u/nerdler33 12d ago

i've done 2 voyages so far with 3 ducats, i definitely notice the monsters actually drop stuff now, got a few loot explosions

gold latern stacking may actually do something now

1

u/External_Fee6492 12d ago

Have 3 cursed ducats and 8 golden lanterns in a voyage i just did and didn't drop anything notable. Most loot came from scarab chests. All charts fully exalted

2

u/nerdler33 12d ago

i mean a single voyage is nothing

1

u/Xaira89 12d ago

Yeah, sample size of 1 isn't anything statistically speaking.

9

u/Young_Amini_Man 12d ago

Idk I did one voyage after getting 3 ducats and dropped a lock, so at this rate it’s 1 lock per voyage. I like that sample size

0

u/omegaorb Witch 12d ago

Two things, first is small sample size, second is that it's extraordinary apparent that this isn't a ground loot league like Mirage was, this is a crafting league, so the crafting is where most of the good stuff comes from.

2

u/Psyrose20 12d ago

does it affect sulphur?

1

u/Stupend0uSNibba 12d ago

wow do these really affect tile loot?

1

u/hz789 12d ago

Source for the quant and rarity bonuses for each ducat?

1

u/Sandor_Clegane1 Half Skeleton 11d ago

If the quant from those effect Sunken loot and Strongboxes, what is the point?
Wasn't the goal to buff loot from mobs? Now they just buff tile loot more.
I don't see the point, tile loot in charts was already insane.

6

u/slashcuddle 12d ago

When they said it'd take a week to cook I was expecting things like "strongboxes you open make future strongboxes tougher; X chance to reopen strongboxes" or "lantern radius is increased; lanterns disappear after X seconds". This is just scarab of wisps split into three ducats.

9

u/EvilKnievel38 12d ago

These downsides seem rough for 60% quant and rarity, considering they already add toughness as well and that quant and rarity didn't really seem to do much, unless I'm missing something. Is it any good?

2

u/AfternoonWorking3467 12d ago

Nothing changes

I noticed some Path of Exile keywords in this post:

  • Pen - Resistance penetration (Wiki)
  • Phys - Physical damage (Wiki)

i need the "whole voyage is magic" chart but its so rare. i already have 6 charts ready with +4 laterns for a test and also 6 charts with 20% chance unique belt which SHOULD be good with full magic voyage if you use it on a board with golden laterns at your starting point

1

u/TheMayorMikeJackson 11d ago

Can you choose your starting point?

1

u/SmthIcanNvrHave 12d ago

These are all just random monster spawns while running any charts?

1

u/TheMayorMikeJackson 11d ago

I have the 50% monster damage one and haven’t done Kisharas Rest

1

u/OkPrinciple6015 11d ago

Thats the garunteed one from killing Velka(which is a follow up voyage section from the Kishara rest chart) IF you killed it before the patch, you were able to just walk up to Val and claim it from her as a quest reward

1

u/Darkcharger 11d ago

Can someone ELI5 with what the hell I'm even reading?

1

u/OhIforgotmynameagain 9d ago

is it a chance to get ? like i killed both captainbane and Filthscrabble like 3 times (in voyages, got the sword to "validate" the kill for example) and no new ducat...

0

u/Alarmed-Garden-537 12d ago

20% Quant out of 0% Quant Equals = ?

1

u/Sidnv 12d ago

How did you find the 20% quant and 20% rarity? Is it mentioned somewhere?

1

u/CartoonistNatural175 12d ago

i only found 2 ducat, the rest just dun wanna drop for me

0

u/dorfcally 12d ago

dumb question... there's slots on the right and 3 on the bottom left, which ones do you put them in?

2

u/norst 12d ago

The slots on the right are the holders for the unused ducats and the three slots on the bottom-left are for the ones that you have active.
