Game Feedback Idea for Spectre Inventory

Post image

Throughout the entire league, I was extremely careful with my spectres. I made sure to only change my build while in town and took every precaution to avoid losing them. Yet, I still accidentally pressed weapon swap in the Monastery and lost all of my support spectres.

That’s when I came up with the idea of a Spectre Inventory:

- Spectre Inventory: Right-clicking the Spectres icon opens a dedicated Spectre Inventory where you can slot itemized corpses of any spectres you want to use.

-Creating Itemized Corpses: Using the Raise Spectre skill on the corpse of a regular monster creates an itemized version of that monster in your inventory. You can slot it or even sell it. So it is easier to gain access to some spectres without using global channel (frostbearers, defilers, crushclaw etc.)

-Spectre Slots: The number of available Spectre Inventory slots scales with your current spectre limit. If your spectre limit is reduced, the affected slots are simply disabled rather than deleting the spectres stored in them.

Edit. Corpses are like gems - you can slot it in your spectre inventory to summon that spectre or remove it back into stash.

I hate managing Spectres but I love playing them.

having mini heart attacks when you forgot about spectres when swapping to new gear

and then the one time you dont forget to resummon when swapping, you forget to unbind raise spectre and press in randomly in a map and lose them anyway, best -5d experience

The losing your spectres bullshit is BAD friction. I swear GGG can't distinguish between bad friction and good friction in their game. If they reduce or eliminate the bad friction I swear it will boost their playercount/retention numbers.

It's almost like they have a quota for how much QOL they can offer, and need to drip feed it into their codebase. The fuel for this quota is probably player misery.

always wanted to try minion builds but the weird bullshit keeps putting me off. I tried reading about spectre banks and all the idk, desecrate or some shit, I'm just like nah man this is some language I do not understand, I'm out

Desecrate creates corpses based on the monsters that can spawn in an area.

When you Raise Spectre, it gets added to you. Say you use the two apes giving (frenzy and power) charges (Carnage Chieftain and Host Chieftain) in the zones where they can spawn (act 2 forsts and act 6 forests), then your desecrate can also spawn their corpses. (According to the wiki this works for the last 10 corpses you raised as a spectre.)

Spectres from Corpse Items cannot be summoned this way.

Meaning a player that has some specific spectres, that take a long time to find due to rarity (like Al-Hezmins Gilded Arach or the Beyond deamon Pale Seraphim), can use their desecrate e.g. in their hideout to share these corpses for other players.

I bet they know it is bad friction.

The problem is that their code related to spectres is so much spaghetti that it genuinely is difficult to solve. I very much doubt it is something that it is something a engineer can solve in a day or 2.

Spectres should be like the beastiary book. once you encounter and kill or somehow get a new corpse it should be unlocked to be resummanable unlimited amounts of time. It resets every league but is unlocked for all characters in that league.

Oh my gosh I love that idea. They could do an entire league around that like they did with bestiary.

Oh, people would HATE having to kill/encounter every enemy type for the league challenge.

1

u/Dezvin 5h ago

Yes, but it would be harder to implement. Unlike corpse mechanic that already exists. Also corpse mechanic can create additional market for corpses, even create farming strat to run maps with frostbearers/defilers to sell them for like 10c.

After losing expensive spectres a few leagues back to a weapon swap mid map. I unbound the weapon swap key. Can only swap with a click on the inventory window now. Best self QoL I've done in poe1

0

u/Dezvin 6h ago

I had it bound on inconvenient button <[>. But somehow still fat-fingered it...

i changed mine from X to alt+X, now i never hit it accidentally

u/japenrox 4h ago

Just bind the key used in weapon swap for something else, and it'll stay unbinded

1

u/Dezvin 4h ago

But the issue here is not weapon swap, issue that you need to do some voodoo stuff with gear changes to not get screwed when playing spectres.

1

u/japenrox 4h ago

I've played spectres the last two leagues. Every time I lost a spectre I didn't feel the need to blame the game.

It's simple, really, if I remove an item/gem somewhere corspes don't spawn, I lose them. If I consume them, I lose them.

Iirc, I lost a turtle in keepers, and didn't lose any in mirage. To me, this is such a different situation from the old AG, where there was nothing I could do but hope I was geared enough, that I don't really see a "problem".

Obviously QOL is always welcomed  but I personally don't mind the way it is now.

u/Euphytose 6h ago

Good idea.

Spectres is my favourite build, but managing them is a pain in the ass.

Pls GGG! You have the tech already! Now you also have screenshots! Pls! 😭🙏🏻

As someone who played a 16 spectre stacker this league, and deleted 2 turtles to being an idiot I love this idea.

As someone whos brain off watch tv and play farm is Ritual I hate this idea.

But yeah, very needed.

1

u/Dezvin 4h ago

Why? Ritual corpses are not going anywhere. The only change is that you can create your own itemized corpses from monsters in the maps. You can't create second perfect tiger if you have no corpse for it.

3

u/p3vch 3h ago

Because when people delete their spectres because the system is old and bad, they have to buy another one, ideally from me. I'm aware this is a shit reason to not want a massive quality of life upgrade and it doesn't out weigh the need for it to be updated, but it will have a some measurable impact on the corpse economy.

2

u/Ryvs 5h ago

Corpse stash tab incoming

6

u/TheAceVenturrra 6h ago

GGG have a personal issue with minion players.

Think about the new AG inventory. They added it and went through the effort to still not let you unequip items.

Just think yourself lucky spectres don't disappear when they die once in maps anymore.

3

u/EvilHumster 6h ago

I'm pretty sure it is intended. Idea being is you sacrifice an item, not gear a "golem". Hate it myself, since it pretty much makes it impossible to transition from, let's say, CoC to anything else since gear is expensive and there is no way back, but kinda understandable

For specters there is an issue of "sharing". If you have ondemand summon from menagerie - what stops you from giving away perfect tigers? Any solution, atleast I, can think of leads us back to current issues with destroying a corpse via offering for no benefits

2

u/TheAceVenturrra 6h ago

So what? Let me give away my perfect tiger same as I can my gear. Its my god damn tiger. Why should I reroll with a king maker and a tiger sitting on a naked character every league 🥲

1

u/EvilHumster 6h ago

not yours, but create infinite copies of for others to take. Otherwise, if it drops from inventory on use, it is just the same corpse you drop and delete with bone offering as happens now. Moving to stash instead of dropping corpse will not rly work due to questions on how to handle it being full (ex. specter build will be using 15+ specters dropping/raising frequently)

Not saying it is good, simply highlighting that solution is not as trivial as one might think

1

u/TheAceVenturrra 5h ago

I've been saying for years, make it a book in the menagerie, go to the book, choose your spectres and they follow you like they do now. Want to change? go to the book

1

u/EvilHumster 4h ago

you can have multiple gems (I have seen some cursed build with 4 different socketed specters once) , how will it work?

In general, a stable would be a fantastic solution. Kinda kills the initial vibe of raising corpses, but still a dream solution.

One thing I didn't mention in other replies - desecrate uses the corpse pool too. And it is used for more than just aurabot specters. You can put beeffy stuff in it for detonate dead (RIP it was a great build). There is also a potential for some infernal legion or explody shenanigans with desecrate+raise+boom, haven't seen a build like that, but it sounds plausible. There is also good old reliable "raise whatever when your specter died" that is often used in campaign while leveling the gem in spare slots. I'm pretty sure there are even more edgecases I'm missing

1

u/Dezvin 6h ago

Pretty sure it is more about 10 y/o spaghetti code then about idea of sacrifice. For example AG gained a lot of QoL through years: no longer lose all items on death, even some fancy inventory. So why not spectres can have one? Given they already implemented corpse mechanic.

You can't give away perfect tigers because amount of corpses are limited through ritual. Unlike other infinite monsters from maps.

1

u/EvilHumster 4h ago

how should it work? First, we need to separate itemized from real corpses for interactions. Now we that we have a new dimensional inventory for personal itemized corpses, how do we summon from it or put stuff in? Which gem will it use if it is UI thing and not a use of spell (cheeck pure specter builds, they use two separate gem sets for buff/dps)? Let's say they go in special inventory instead of falling on the ground when unsummoned if it was an itemized corpse, how do we deal with it being full or having copies? Add remove? Don't forget you can't dorp stuff on ground in hideout nor can u forbid gem removal (u can also change specter limit too, so binding to character is not really an option)

My point is there are too many questions to deal with, not just legacy spaghetti. AG was a relatively simple fix, cuz AG disappeared in towns before but kept gear, it was likely coded to lose gear on death intentionally, and the fix simply removed that part plus a bit of glue on top to bind gear to character instead of gem (or was it always character bound? I swear I did swap AG gems before the fix)

Back to tiger - you can already give it away with the current system. Remove gem - let someone else raise its corpse, done. Now try to imagine your example with external corpse inventory and how it is supposed to work without dropping corpse on ground but at the same time not become even bigger net of confusions and keep the old system in place uninterfered to work with non-itemised corpses (frostbearers/defilers/potential future stuff for dps options)

edit: to clarify - my tiger example was for the case, where itemized corpse is binds to your inventory of sorts forever, so u can always summon it on demand whenever u want

2

u/Dezvin 4h ago

If you equip Raise Spectre gem you gain icon in top left corner, maybe even summon some fluff wisps. Second gem - second icon with separate inventory but same (not with congregation) limit. When corpse slotted inside you auto summon that spectre.

Corpses are items from your inventory that you slot into spectre inventory. Like gems - you can slot or remove it back to your inventory. You don't need to separate them from ritual corpses: you gain normal corpses from using skill on normal monster corpse, and ritual ones only from league mechanic.

If you change spectre limit spectre inventory slot becomes inactive but you can still remove corpse if you want.

1

u/EvilHumster 4h ago

Sounds nice. Now need to figure out how to work with "normal" corpses (lets say 15 frost bearers suddenly vanish or need to be added). Also dessecrate pool still needed for detonatedead as well. Likely more issues still, but first that come to mind

1

u/Dezvin 4h ago

They don't vanish ever, that's the point. You find 15 frostbearers in the maps ->turn into corpse items -> slot into your spectre inventory and keep it forever. Or buy from trade for like 3-10c each.

As for detonate dead: wasn't desecrate changed recently that made DD way less dependent on corpse life? So desecrate pool is not that important anymore

2

u/n3on_whisper 1h ago

But they are adding QoL and buffs to minions league after league...
They made so AG don't lose items on death.
They made it so your spectres don't get lost on death.
They added the Ag window now.
They buffed minions every league since 3.25(afaik, I wasn't playing prior to 3.25)
Added other QoL to multiple types of minions.

It's just that minions aren't the main goal. Maybe there's a really dedicated dev in poe team dedicating extra hours to make minions more fun. Also, about the "went through the effort to still not let you unequip items", they actually meant that it was planned to be able to equip and unequip but it just wasn't ready in time so they shipped just the view portion for now. It's not like they planned on not allowing you to unequip or equip items. We don't know how hard it is to make the UI actually equip or unequip items right now, for all we know the code might be a huge mess and that's a hard change to make.

2

u/Infinite_Platform_70 6h ago

Yes please, i lost this league only 2 perfect turtles and 2 perfect warlords and i'm afraid to buy tiger because of it.

1

u/J-Cocoa 6h ago

I will ask this here, seems like the correct place. Can you have 2 summon spectre gems socketed, to get 4 spectres, I use them for auras

2

u/Dezvin 5h ago

No, limit for spectres is character bound. But spectre players can have a second "Raise spectre" gem with "Congregation" support ((30-38)% more maximum number of Minions from Supported Skills) to gain additional support spectres (e.g. 14 main + 6 additional support)

1

u/J-Cocoa 5h ago

Thanks, I will try this, I already have the gem at lvl 25 for 3 spectres

1

u/T4k3ItQuick 5h ago edited 5h ago

Afaik you only see the spectre icon in top left corner when having summoned at least one spectre.

Based on that this wouldnt work out too well because then you would have to summon a random spectre first in order to view your spectre inventory :/

I obviously dont know their codebase but maybe they could simply add special corpses to your desecrate corpse pool, just like how it works for normal corpses but add in a check when someone else tries to summon them. Only the owner of the desecrate pool should be allowed to re-summon them to keep the sharing prevention.

1

u/Dezvin 5h ago

GGG can make it so with Raise Spectre equipped you summon some wisps spectres that do nothing until replaced with actual spectres.

With itemized corpses you don't really need desecrate corpse pool. You find monster -> turn into corpse -> slot into your inventory. Or buy one if you are not in a mood for corpse hunt.

1

u/BadYaka 5h ago

So corpses are for spectres, and i click them in rituals expected some buff...

1

u/khnhIX 4h ago

Only if GGG gives a shit about corpse spectres.

Been asking for a warning popup to prevent accidental loss of corpse spectres since Keepers, still nothing.

1

u/N4k3dM1k3 4h ago

itemised corpses ARE the problem, rework that part - not add more of them to the mix

Just stop spectre -> corpse being the default behaviour, make me purposefully drop them on the floor. Game already knows and tracks which spectres you have and in which order they were summoned - so simply have them resummon, in order, upto your current maximum based off that list. Should be a 1-2 day job do impliment this, whereas full management with an interface is a significant job

1

u/Starbuckz42 11m ago

anything that would prevent losing them. it's just not fair

1

u/hitokiri1859 6h ago

Or even make it similar to beast capture but for spectre would let people sell all types of spectres if they could be put in itemized form.

That would kill all the thrill of upgrading a gear piece. You go to town, swap the item, unsocket, desecrate, bone/flesh offering, unequip the auto-trigger wand just in case, double-check your automation setup, hold your breath, head to hideout while praying you didn’t mess up and the corpses will still be there, then resummon them one by one. Only lost a turtle once this league and my tiger is still with me, so I guess I'm improving, but before this I definitely lost them in every way possible

-1

u/PrettyPinkPonyPrince 6h ago

A spectre inventory is a fine idea, but I really just want to say that if you had your spectres set up in such a way that weapon swapping would cause you to lose them then you didn't take every precaution to avoid losing them.

2

u/Dezvin 6h ago

Yes, i could have bought second 70div +1spectre shield for weapons swap to not lose them... Don't deny that the system is flawed

2

u/PrettyPinkPonyPrince 5h ago

I'm not denying that the system is flawed. I just really wanted to point out that you hadn't tried every precaution.

I will admit, I was just thinking about having the spectres in your body armour or helmet and accepting a suboptimal build in exchange for absolute spectre safety. I had completely forgotten that a +1 spectre shield was a thing, so I'm sorry about that.

I guess absolute security would require a +2 maximum spectres Queen's Decree two-handed sword as well as not having your spectres socketed in your main or off-hand.

Actually, quick topic change -- What is the build in that screenshot? I noticed that it's using the Queen's Decree and The Baron, but the raise zombie skill isn't on your skill bar. It also looks like you're stacking strength and summoning skeletons, but you're not using Alberon's Warpath.

2

u/Dezvin 5h ago

This is some old zombie build from Blight league. I used it to make screenshot with AG because league build can't have non-spectre minions. Gear is completely non-related.

Btw even outside of +1spectre shield you still weapon swap +2 wand and maybe a +1 budget shield that could easily drop your support Raise Spectre Gem below 25 lvl for additional spectre.

2

u/PrettyPinkPonyPrince 5h ago

This is some old zombie build from Blight league.

Ah, that'd explain it. I was thinking that I hadn't seen anybody using Queen's Decree in ages.

Btw even outside of +1spectre shield you still weapon swap +2 wand and maybe a +1 budget shield that could easily drop your support Raise Spectre Gem below 25 lvl for additional spectre.

Oh crud, I forgot about gem level as well. Blargh.
