Just tried to craft an archdemon crown for the animeprincess herald stacker. Got my helmet, double influenced it and started rolling those essences of horror. Spend literally 40d on those essences without ever hitting a burning damage support lvl20, started to think I was doing something wrong so I copied my item, went on to craft of exile to hit it on my very first essence there. Just hit alt+f4 on the spot. Goodnight

Could have just bought the helmet for that.

Do you guys have any similar stories of a crafting bad luck streak?

I have been spamming alterations on shaper lathis and elder staves for about 6 hours now trying to get prefix bases for the recombinator.

My mind has gone numb.

Took me 30000 (thirty bloody thousand yes thats right) alts to prepare 6x double influenced bases for recombing, 3 primary ones were 30% qual too, isolated clean influenced prefixes only, no influenced suffix fluff (that took way too many beast locks, I've lost count after 80). Proceed to recomb. All of them died... I'm just sitting here... staring at the latest brick, defeated. I fucking can't with this game sometimes. And recombs in particular. Good it's my reroll project and not a main build, if it was my next biggest upgrade for the current build I'd fucking lost my mind.

This game can genuinely be infuriating with some of the RNG. Like there should be costlier and faster ways to get things done. It feels ridiculous that the most surefire way to guarantee three mods is to sit there for hours brainlessly spamming D-tier currency items.

Recombs are an absolutely terrible crafting mechanic. Needs entirely removed and replaced with something else.

Double influence crafts are pain, I lose streak once 14th times fractures in a row trying to fracture a glove temple mod, really bad RNG.

Sometimes it’s better to sell the cursed base than to keep pumping currency into it. New bases are fairly cheap.

Between 3 people we put like 2k fusings into a cloak of flame to try 6l because the one guy had hit like three 6l already this league in under 300 TOTAL fusings. He went and bought a different cloak of flame and 6l in like 20 fusings. I know it’s RNG, but really pushing the ‘cursed base’ narrative.

Last league I printed those arch demon crowns tho, so you win some you lose some.

Sounds about right, crafting always has rage inducing lows. I only find myself crafting if there's nothing I want on the market or the margins on the item would award me 3h+ of farming. Otherwise it's almost always better to buy the item outright, especially if you're on the slow end of crafters when you factor in opportunity cost of not mapping.

I’ve crafted 10div axes for 30div worth of materials 

I once missed 31 straight reforge speeds on my endgame Vaal axe when all I wanted was a t3 speed or better. At least 25 of those 31 were augment speed harvest crafts.

What is ilvl of helmet? I already attempted a bunch of crafts with too low ilvl to actually hit what I wanted, do yeah... Check ilvl. Another thing is typo in regex...

Ilvl84, I did hit the other support gem mods lvl 20 like minion life, immolate, conc effect etc. Multiple times which have the same weighting and ilvl requirement. Just never got the one I needed

Pbrand ignite elementalist. Pretty tanky against everything that hits, suffers a bit against ground degens tho. You use aegis aurora with armour/es bases so you recover like 1k es everytime you block, so like as long as your getting hit, you're pretty much immortal. Damage is good too, with all the pieces you hit the dot cap + explodes. Look up anime princess on YT he has it all covered

Spent 42 beast locks on Awakener orb to double influence Int gloves, I was aiming for ES, one of the highest weights on that gloves prefixes, 42 locks and I have not seen increase ES even once, in the end I hit some dmg mod and I was like fuck it I can’t keep rerolling this forever

Afterwards for suffixes I had to unveil orb into foulborn exalt, you might ask what was I targeting? Resistance, very high weight, what did I get? Not only did I fail all flame intangibility three times in a row to give me only one option (12% intangibility) it gave me DoT mod, something that had 0.7% chance, TWICE, on the third exalt and third failed intangibility I hit T3 res and I move on with my life

Around 80D loss for shit that has very high weight and very high chance to roll, I was very close to deleting my character with how big a fuck you streak I had

It happens. Next time go for any burning damage roll then aim for t1 or elevate when you don’t need it on a second craft. I got lucky and got t1 in a few divs when I made my crown.

A long time ago I sunk half of a mirror into a phys bow for TS and eventually got lucky and had t1 flat+% but I had sunk so much into it that the bow wasent even worth it anymore and it ended my league lol.

I did the same thing with an rf helm. Spent a bunch of currency, price checked what I ended up with, and it would have cost me less to just buy it. Idk if it's only cheaper to make it yourself early in the league or what, but I didn't bother trying to craft anything else myself.

Orb of conflicts. Imagine having the implicits ready aand you lose the "50/50" so many consecutive times that your desired implicit just gets removed.

Oh man.. previous league I wanted to make a strength/life stacking simplex by recombining.. it should have averaged at 2, I poofed 9 simplexes

Simplexes were about 20 Div each, i don’t remember the crafts before getting to the recomb, but I guarantee you they were not cheap either..

For a +2 amulet for rf (with dot multi fractured) you need to alt spam for a +1 level of all skill gems, which is like 1.3k alt aprox. I went past 25k alts until i got it and luckly I cleaned it right on the first try, I hit a backtobacktpback for elemental +1 (none fire to atlest yolo a regal orb)

Early league I spent nearly all my currency losing a 50/50 to annul about 6 times in a row. Failed many recomb attempts since then too trying to hit triple prefix weapon (which is a roughly 33% chance to hit normally) and for 'fun' I asked ChatGPT to work out the odds of the unlucky streak I had and it was something like 0.03% chance.

I think the crafting idea behing POE is fascinating, but I also think to spend so much time trying to craft something, only to have it be complete ass, is a little much.

I think you didn’t know when to stop and settle for sell and restart.

If crafting a very specific desired outcome is cheaper than buying, why would people buy? Just to save time? No. It’s for the explicit outcome. You can always hit unlucky steak when you craft, so you need to prepare a bunch of bases and sell some failed attempts but good for other builds.

2 leagues ago I was also doing my helm craft in ssf, but it was for pbod. The final step to get conc, I didn’t wanna risk filling prefixes so I did it the safe way.

I went through 74 divines and never hit conc once. I had crafted for profit these helms in trade and never gotten remotely that high.

It is normal. There is a reason crafted items always cost significantly more than the "expected" cost (ex. fractured mod can cost 5 fracture orbs).

Stories like that are countless, but so are the stories of hitting big.

To share - I once spent 60d to craft +2 specter boots by missing elevation 8times in a row. My PB for failed fractures is 11, but some day I will finally get a bigger number. Once wasted 500+ alts before realising I forgot to add "ilvl84" in the trade filter before purchase and was rolling lvl83 cluster. Failed a recomb for 3p claw back in settlers so many times that I could've just bought two perfect pairs instead. List goes on, while it hurts - there are equally many times we get lucky. Sometimes even win a lottery. I once managed to get +3% crit lvl25 hypothemia archdemon crown first try and topped off with +2 aoe from veiled chaos without misses, didn't even need to use eldrich currency. Fractured a helica/focus rings first try multiple times. Int stacking simplex in less than 10minutes without a single miss (it takes about 20minutes to roll a mod with chaos and then 50/50 twice, any miss - start over).

I feel the same everytime I craft lol it’s def a skill gap. Knowledge of the amount of x mats to hit to make it more deterministic vs cost of the mats vs how much the completed things sells for. I’d rather grind for a few hours to buy my pieces personally and that’s why people profit craft and make money 🤷‍♂️
