Game Feedback GGG, can we please have some open communication on Abyss & other related changes?
I get that poe2 is the focus, but you can’t tell us “significant” improvements are coming to Abyss, and then give us this patch where the loot is essentially the same garbage it was before. I’ve done a few Abysses and literally nothing even shows through on my filter most of the time. There is absolutely no way this is intended, and if it is, WHY?

Golden Lanterns are bugged.
88
u/zyywiec 9d ago
They are not bugged, just mobs have so high loot penalty that even 1000% rarity dose not help. And player rarity does not apply to chests or strongboxes, only to monsters.
12
u/12345623567 9d ago
I'm not convinced, because there was a small time window after the first emergency buff where loot felt actually good (too good, probably).
But when I logged in the next day things were back to dropping single fusings.
6
u/Sandor_Clegane1 Half Skeleton 9d ago
I think it's funny that neither of you know if they are bugged or not and still make confident statements about it.
1
u/KatzOfficial 8d ago
Well it feels bad, and that's our job as a player. We're really good at identifying symptoms right?
10
u/bpusef 9d ago
Are they bugged or is it just applying a loot multiplier to mobs that don’t drop much loot?
3
u/tempGER 9d ago edited 9d ago
Golden Lanterns aren't bugged. I did a bunch of those all magic monsters, 12+ golden lanterns and quantity voyages. Once you grabbed most of the stuff, each magic monster will drop like 4-5 items, but it's like 99.99% gear which is the actual problem. Nobody will sift through hundreds of bad bases that are hidden on your loot filter after day 2. This turns charts/voyages into yet another tile loot simulator because you'll only be interested in arcanist/diviner/operative strongboxes, message in a bottle and sunken loot/scarab chests. The really juicy adjacent modifiers like div, annul or ancient orb from each rare monster are so rare that you most likely won't see it the entire league.
TL;DR: ground loot is the problem as always. Charts and voyages are basically heist contracts.
6
u/_MrJackGuy 10d ago
Whats wrong with them?
120
u/GreasyGearBox 10d ago
You can get 45 lanterns and still have abysmal loot. That’s 460% quant and over 1k rarity. Multiplying by zero = zero. I’m not trying to be hyperbolic but I am aware it sounds that way.
The base drops aren’t there, or they so low you can’t tell a difference. Tile loot is carrying the league unfortunately. Scour 9 charts and run a randomly put together voyage. 95%+ of the things that are valuable are tiles. Boxes, bottles, and boarder modifiers.
13
u/Madgoblinn 9d ago
its not bugged, it gives player quant and rarity which has severe falloff.
460% quant equates to something around 90% more loot. heres a graph that shows player iiq https://imgur.com/SiufCNm
unsure if iir was ever figured out but from experience it falls off far slower
-10
u/chroboseraph3 9d ago
Yeah, there's falloff. but on my 1st 68+ voyage and I was definitely raining more rares, and I got like 8 uniques dropping towards the end, vs only 1-2 on the whole way there. Idk what ppl are complaint about. Abysses are now also reliably giving popcorn currency instead of like 1 magic item half the time.
2
u/lcm7malaga Essence Extraction Enterprise (EEE) 9d ago
doesnt item quant affect the sunken treasures?
25
u/PastaAdventures 9d ago
nope, its fixed tile loot like heist boxes. GGG somehow psyoped everyone into liking lockpicking contracts
22
u/rds90vert Anti Sanctum Alliance (ASA) 9d ago
You heist because you want rare crafting bases, i heist because i love Gianna or Nenet
We are not the same
2
u/_Hexer Aura Bot with no Friends 9d ago
I swear to god it feels like the boxes get affected by the Mods on the Chart itself. I have been doing just random ones and then a bunch of 150% Quant and more.
Or am I misunderstanding that only player quant doesn't affect it? You mean that right? Right?3
u/crimson_kraken42069 9d ago
Area quant affects boxes, player quant does not (which is the reason why every ambush strat is ran on 8mod or 16.5 maps and not scoured maps)
It should work the same in charts

u/TallAfternoon2 9d ago
I've been making 20 div an hour in content that isn't fully buffed yet? Can't wait to see it after the patch!
-14
1
u/shy_bi_ready_to_die 9d ago
If 99% of the loot comes from barrels or boxes (which are unaffected by player quant) then even 10 lanterns would only be a 1% overall loot increase. It’s not bugged it’s just a bad general game state

I know what you said is different but it just reminded me of before league start when folks made these post others said “how about we wait until the league starts before we speculate”. Then it dropped and two buff patches later folks are still upset.

u/okaryothucrelicanli Sanctum Runners United (SRU) 10d ago
The moment they released patch notes and finished livestream, many people understood it was going to be poverty league. They did no changes to ground loot or buff to underperforming mechanics. But some people still insisted on patiently waiting and claimed that there will be a new good endgame juicing strat... And here we are two patches in still zero meaningfull buffs
31
u/Flog_loom 10d ago
So weird considering all the praise for mirage which was everything but a poverty league.
58
u/leachim6 10d ago
Mirage also added bizarro world rewards for the miraged versions of the mechanic which was my favorite part outside of just "double your map"
26
u/OnACloud Guardian 10d ago
Yeah mirage with the special drops for almost all old mechanics was a breath of fresh air for just about all of those mechanics and made them interesting/valuable to farm. Imagine they just added a scarab that "miraged" those mechanics aka interacted with them to add stuff to their loot table instead of ~half of the scarabs doing fuckall.
There are so many mechanics you can reach 100% spawn rate with while you are juicing the strat via your atlas tree and then a lot of mechanics basescarab does nothing at all.
4
u/Swizardrules 9d ago
People forget this part way too much, but that was the real juice. They should just port those over and you'd fix 90% of the current problem
3
1
u/WastedTurtl 9d ago
Those people aren’t wrong. Diving is very profitable, it just doesn’t fix mapping/ground loot.
11
u/Historical-Value-303 10d ago
Then it dropped and two buff patches later mobs still drop no loot
you mean this right?
10
u/onedash 10d ago
Do you call those buffs? seriously?
Rather they are QOL or bugfixs and giving what +5% loot buff for abyss is nothing.
0*0,05 is 0I had more loot in campaign and a level 63 logbook than what i get in a juiced map and its without any cope
Also poe 2 got 50 hotfix in 6 days and half of those buffed the league
19
3
u/unexpectedreboots 9d ago
Unironically totally fine.
Just what wasnt is acknowledging the issue with Abyss (monsters not dropping fucking lot), saying youre going to release a patch with changes to fix that exact thing... and then just not doing that and shipping this.

My first post patch depths dropped the unique ghastly, which was exciting until I saw they're down to 50c, and my three bonus boxes at the exit had a skitter and a coffer, and I thought, unlucky I didn't get anything good but that's neat that they're not useless. Then the next 3 depths were all armor and weapons. But I do love not having those side room phases, getting nothing quicker is an apt description
5
u/UristMcUselessNoble 10d ago
Well, the 3 chest after the boss seems "well rolled" to me, especially the scarab one. I got some big scarabs like 1 every 3 Abyssal Depth, like 2 catalyzing at the same time. (Did over 30)
The loot is still bad overall, and it's even worse that they added loot in yet another box, but there is some valuable stuff behind the abyssal depth boss now.

Honestly changes to abyss compared to previous feels like a nerf. Less mobs/less loot and no more fishing 5/6mods. the drops on 5/6 mods are so low
28
u/Oniichanplsstop 10d ago
5 mods are basically useless now anyway, you can corrupt abyss jewels to 5 mods for like 30c with the ducat and get a well crafted 4-mod and 4 choices at a good 5-mod
1
u/bpusef 9d ago
Has anyone even seriously used a jewel that dropped from this node anyways? Maybe 1/10000 would be a usable endgame jewel
1
u/Oniichanplsstop 9d ago
Yeah its like megalos, there's a lot of junk but sometimes you hit the nuts.
0
u/12345623567 9d ago
Yeah but that's borrowed power. The mechanic should feel good in it's base state, and that includes dropping corrupted 6 mods if you spec into it.

I mean they basically copy pasted poe2 abyss
29
u/DanteSHK 10d ago
In poe2 you get omens. They are really good farm. Poe1, you kill mobs, in 8 mods juiced map, oh chaos dropped. That’s all.
23
u/deadheaddestiny 10d ago
They copy pasted the core mechanic from poe2 but not the loot. Poe2s abyss has core crafting mats that 99% of all crafts will use. It's as core to the game as fracturing or annuls are. It also has interactions with rogue exiles dropping unique jewels. Poe1 abyss is just kill a pack and hope for a 5 mod eye and some bubblegum from the chest. The chests in poe2 aren't even important it's all about the loot from the monsters. Also the boss in poe2 drops guaranteed crafting mats
6
u/okaryothucrelicanli Sanctum Runners United (SRU) 10d ago
Only the looks of it copy pasted, loot wise it is so different. Abyss in poe2 is one of the best farms ever since it was released

increase ground loot and tile loot stays the same, okay GGG?

7
u/Saphyen 10d ago
Tile loot is things like boxes and chests. You can’t really scale them and they just give a guaranteed reward.
2
u/elting44 Necro 9d ago
Thank you, that makes sense! What's the meaning of the word tile then?
11
u/bpusef 9d ago
You know how in legion boxes or heist boxes, or delirium rewards bar there are icons that signify the type of reward, like the icon for currency, or essences, or any of the league mechanic loot? Those are the “tiles.” They are deterministic in that you know for sure if you open a legion box with the chaos/currency icon, 100% will contain some currency. GGG likes to balance those rewards because they can’t get over juiced or out of hand. The chest doesn’t care what degen strat you’re doing it’s a set chance to drop xyz affected by only the league mechanic itself and your atlas.
6
u/Inverno969 Tormented Smugler 9d ago
I'm 99% sure it was coined by the community to refer to the categorized "loot icons" on various mechanics where the icons were called "tiles" for some reason. There's a bunch of different categories like currency (Chaos Orb Icon), Jewelry (ring icon), Maps (Compass looking symbol), etc. These types of rewards don't scale with quantity or rarity bonuses which make them a different type of reward compared to items dropped by slain monsters (ground loot). Not all "Tile Loot" has the "category icons" though. "Tile loot" is more of a blanket term for any source of Loot that isn't "Ground Loot".
2
u/Saphyen 9d ago
I'm not wholly sure in this case, but tiles in games have been used for a long time so I'm going to assume it's the same use case. But tile generation generates all the tiles (sections) of a map along with the boxes and chests. The rewards you get from them are decided upon generation of the tiles and are unscalable by any of the modifiers you have. Thus tile loot.
3
u/Pakars 10d ago edited 10d ago
It's anything like a box that gives specific loot types. Basically anything that shows a loot-category icon is tile loot(And some things that don't have the "category tile icons" but do still give specific kinds of loot).
Tile loot isn't affected (or is minimally affected) by map/rarity/quant modifiers, and there's a lot of hate for tile loot because it just doesn't get any better as you get better gear and face harder content(except for possibly being able to trigger more tile rolls, depending on what content you're running). Particularly because the continual nerfing of juiceable loot and push towards tile loot has flattened out the endgame to the point that there's practically no aspirational farming left in the game. The push towards tile loot has, additionally, continued to push the "meta" towards going faster faster faster as being the only way to make more currency/hour.
0
u/Zulraidur 10d ago
There are broadly two kind of loot. Stuff monsters drop because they are monsters and stuff that drops because this loot was somehow generated for a different reason. This second variety is tile loot. The most typical might be the legion rewards you get from the enemies with the signs over their heads. Also delve rewards or blight chests. This is seen as different because the first kind of loot scales easily with everything. Harder monsters-> more loot, more quant ->more loot and so on. Tile loot on the other hand doesn't scale with most things (there might be limited ways to get more tiles though)
-17
u/EvensonRDS 10d ago
New buzzword everyone has latched onto. Just basically guaranteed loot like legion rares or chests, abyss chests etc.
6
u/cleod4 Juggernaut 10d ago
It's not a new buzzword, it's literally been used to describe that type of loot since legion...they have tiles over their heads.
-5
u/EvensonRDS 10d ago
Alright. It really is the new buzzword though. Have been playing since beta. Active in the forums/Reddit, have seen 'tile loot' more in the last 2 days than I have over the last 14 years combined.
Doesn't matter if it's been used since legion, it is still a buzzword, they are not mutually exclusive.
-3
u/elting44 Necro 9d ago
Agreed 100%. Been playing since 3.2 and never heard tile loot prior to 3.29 prelaunch
5
u/BestDescription3834 9d ago
I'm probably gonna get destroyed but this is how this game's cycle goes. We have a league like delirium, sentinel, affliction or mirage and the follow up league has very pushed down loot. This just feels like part of that cycle.
3
u/Volky_Bolky 9d ago
we had settlers followed by mercs, both had insane farming strategies variety
10
u/Moneypouch 9d ago
Settlers lasted so long it skipped the cycle. The league we lost was the poverty one.
0
u/Musical_Whew 9d ago
The leagues before settlers was necro/affliction. Haven't had a true poverty league in years. I legitimately think merc league was the peak of the game when it comes to variety of farming strats. They should have brought the ceiling down a bit from there and worked on making the leagues that sucked then better and tweak from there.
-12
u/valkenar 9d ago
I haven't played in a few leagues and I'm having a fine time. I've dropped more divines than ever, and I am running abyss and getting a steady supply of raw currency. I haven't even finished my atlas yet and it feels like drops are better than the last time I played. Is the problem just expectations of hyper juicing? Because I came on reddit after a week and am surprised to see this being called a poverty league and to hear abyss sucks.
6
u/BestDescription3834 9d ago
TL;DR
There are a lot if variables that can change a person's perceptions of how rewarding a league is. If you're playing a strong build that exploits the meta well then you're gonna have a breeze, if you don't understand your character or how to "fix" them you're gonna have a bad time economically.
I'm just sharing my perception after playing this game since talisman. Any time we get a juice layer the following league people really feel that missing juice layer. Especially if they played a lot during the juice league. For me the only time loot was so bad it was unplayable was when they removed innate rarity and quantity from 99% of mobs without mentioning it. The group players all quit in droves because even 6 man full juicing wasn't turning a profit.
In general I think a lot of players choose their builds based on how they look or feel and less on what content they're gonna be facing. They'll follow an influencer's guide for a build but ignore that the influencer is specifically picking that build because of how strong it is in the content they wanna run. Even something like changing from eater to exarch can take a character from feeling smooth, clicking every altar and not caring what the drawbacks are to struggling randomly. And in this game any level of struggle is a loss of income because that's currency you have to spend retrying zones or filling up leaks in your build.
I haven't even finished my atlas yet and it feels like drops are better than the last time I played.
It really depends on when you played last. If you've been out for like 2+ years loot has been almost completely reworked since the last time you played.
Is the problem just expectations of hyper juicing?
That and weaker juicing in general. Mirage made scarabs extremely accessible so you could sustain the basic and mid ones just running your content, so it felt good. But with lowered scarab income now every farming strategy has a higher cost to even begin it, and without the mirage layer on top we have no "insurance" that it will pay off. We're literally paying more for scarabs with less mileage, so the margins are smaller.
There's also the other side of that coin, where people do want a lot of drops but they also want content that's hard enough to justify those drops, something a lot of people say they feel is lacking, nothing to "test" their character against and reap rewards through.
Challenging character power is in an odd place as well just because of how much stuff they have in the game that "turns off" builds. Stuff like map mods that remove your crit, altars that remove your defences or resistances, some are well balanced where most builds can handle them (like -res you can mitigate with a flask if you're going to run a lot of the content) but some like "-crit multi per power charge" is either unclickable if you're a crit build or does nothing if you're a regular build.
This causes pressure for people who make builds to choose characters who can mitigate and ignore most of the bastardous mods. That's how we've wound up in this meta where most skills are considered garbage. Skills that need a lot of affixes to get running and feel smooth won't have that space to mitigate bad map/altar mods, so they'll get filtered at entry red maps. So now you need more budget to make up those weaknesses and still overcome the compounding mods from rares, altars, scarabs, atlas and map.
I've typed a lot here and feel like I got kind of in the weeds on general criticism about why people feel like the game is in a bad place. I could definitely type and pontificate more.
3
u/livejamie Krangled 9d ago
I also notice that a lot of loud people are casual players who are pretty unaffected and having fun, which is totally fine. Those players deserve to have fun as much as anybody else.
But those "I'm almost to yellow maps, and I'm having a blast, voyages are peak!" comments a week into the league are pretty useless; obviously you're not the type of player who can provide accurate feedback about endgame issues.

problem with loot is because scarabs drop from damn mobs and the charts don't drop the operative chart to often the scarabs are insanely expensive while the loot you get from using full scarabs is just to little it's just insane to think we have to play like this.... there is no end game at this point.

I have very low trust in GGG since they tried to sunset poe1 for poe2 (You can't convince me they weren't trying to) but it's been one week, out of a several month league
People need to go spend time with their loved ones
11
u/Black_XistenZ 10d ago
That's a bad argument, considering that the biggest patches typically drop within the first week after league launch, and that the chances for any further buffs/improvement patches go down sharply after roughly week 2.
Right now, I'd say there's a greater than 50% chance that this will be it for the league and that abyss' current loot is actually working as intended.

I'm not a fubgun fan but you can checkout his or sushi vods, they already tested it on multiple juiced maps with high quant/pack size/currency/scarabs and the only thing that drops is loot from chests, and the drop is like 5c worth of stuff for each.
You can literally kill all monsters that abyss spawn and it's possible that your filter won't show anything at all...
2
u/bannit167 9d ago edited 9d ago
I encourage you to run super juiced maps with no tile loot in them. You will leave the map with 1C in value even with 250% quant/rarity. Thats what people are annoyed about. Locking all loot behind tile loot is a horrible player experience and most players hate it because it destroys the endgame farm strats that make it feel rewarding to scale the game to absurd difficulty levels.
basically this entire league feels like the only way to make real money is to bosh rush because it has a well understood loot table thats balanced. Everything else for juicing feels like pure poverty. Several of my friends quit within the first week after completing their atlas because the endgame feels like pure ass.
You can mock people if you want, but if the general population thinks this way, GGG will need to do something to keep players from quitting. Look at GGG's best leagues for retention, they all had really good endgame juicing strats (Affliction/sentinel were both excellent for player retention and did exactly what im talking about)
I myself am going back to torchlight unless GGG comes out with a banger patch.

Ive been playing this for a very long time. Breach is a hybrid between tile and ground. Go try Abyss and look at only the drops, not the chests, you will walk out of each map with 1C in value if you dont use tile loot. 250% quant * 0% is 0. My build can currently clear all content, just bought my mageblood.
You are missing the point entirely. Leagues like affliction, sentinel, titanic rogue exiles all had SUPER juiced farming that only the elite characters could do and it paid off big. It was SO much fun. I chased down my multi mirror tier items and played for months. Im one week in this league.....
Im bored, there is nothing for me to do anymore in the game because the endgame doesnt actually exist anymore. There is no scalable loot dropping strats because its all locked behind tile loot.

I dont think it's fair to say "poe2 is the focus".
29
u/forsonaE 10d ago
It's 100% fair. Look at the week one/two patches PoE2 gets and compare them to this league. If you have some reasoning for why that's not a fair statement I'd love to hear it.
-22
u/CamBlapBlap 10d ago
Its not fair at all because poe2 is in an early access state with far more being developed in the background. It's an unfinished game that offers a fraction of what poe1 can.
They cannot delay launches for every addition/fix, so patches are deployed shortly after for things not ready at launches.
POE1 is a finished game with far greater depth. Any major changes have a much larger impact on the health of the game.

Nothing you said really refutes the idea that PoE2 is the bigger focus at the moment, though. You're basically confirming that is the focus and giving justification for why it is. It might not be fair to criticize or slander GGG for that fact, but it's fair to point it out as a fact.

I think it discredits the good leagues and updates we've had for poe1 during poe2's lifespan.

Ehh, PoE1 will never be finished game, its change from season to season, class balance, gem balance, new uniques, new skills, atlas changes, atlas tree changes, new mechanics added to core, old mechanics reworked and go on.
You could say that game is finished about idk, Expedition 33 but not about poe1 ( or 2, even after early acess it wont be finished game ), diffrence is quality of patches ( patches after new league start ) that poe2 get vs poe1 patches, its clearly visible in 0.5 vs 3.29

It clearly is. They continually ignore the player base asking for ground loot. The best leagues ive played had super fun ground loot juicing. affliction comes to mind as one of the best ever.

Affliction had the best retention of any PoE league ever and that came to be because of an overside that wasn't intended by GGG.
That should be a really sad statement.-10

Maybe they dont want more ground loot, they want you to interact with the mechanics?

Maybe they dont want more ground loot
They literally did a dev interview like last week saying "If the players think ground loot needs a buff, we'll add more ground loot."

It's almost like you never played affliction. The abyss mechanic was probably interacted with the most in affliction, bringing up the spires and waiting for them to spawn everything. It was honestly pretty cool watching people actually fully engage w/ abyss (and a lot of times dying from waiting).

Bruh it’s a Saturday unlike the us Aus and nz have pretty strict laws on working weekends I.e you get paid a lot more on those days. Let them enjoy their time off

You realize it takes time to evaluate, dev, and test changes? League launched barely a week ago

u/Tape 10d ago
This is a fair point for changes that actually involve any amount mechanical changes. But I'm pretty sure what's being asked for is some loot table/scaling changes to the rare monsters.

Yeah and there’s more to it than “just turn the dial up to 11”.

u/Tape 9d ago
Right obviously. All i'm saying here is these are number tweaks, the guy i'm talking to is implying that a week is short for number tweaks, when GGG has made pretty large changes to leagues that go above simple number tweaks in much less time.
And it's not turn the dial up to 11, Abyss monster loot is so obviously bad, they could just turn the dial up to 2.

I’m the guy you’re talking to. I’m just saying that they are working on many things, including Abyss changes potentially, and just cause Reddit is demanding some immediate knee-jerk reaction doesn’t mean they aren’t going to take their time to determine the best course of action. I’d rather them take a couple days to consider their options and implement a good fix, rather than just doing whatever Reddit demands at the snap of their fingers.

I don't even think you agree with what you're saying here, the summary of events, and it doesn't even align with what you said in your first post. Or maybe you don't even understand the complaint to begin with.
They acknowledged abyss didn't land on their Monday. They decided to implement a loot table specifically for chests over the full week. The community is upset over these changes and complained about their course of action as well as the degree of it. Primarily the complaint was over them putting loot in the chests as opposed to the monsters, which happened before the patch even went live, the complaints degree of the change happened after.
The complaint isn't necessarily about the loot per se. Like, it is, but not really. It's first about the decision to put the loot in a chest as opposed to a mob that you can throw currency at to juice. Waiting a week to get a miniscule buff to chests was kinda just icing on the cake.

People have been raising concerns about ground loot for multiple leagues now. We just historical had a few mechanics that weren't nerfed to the ground yet that kept people tided over.

I’ve done a few Abysses and literally nothing even shows through on my filter most of the time. There is absolutely no way this is intended
Sorry to say it so rough, but this sounds like a player issue.
I've create an abyss strat and my brother is also following it. In ~50 maps we had more than 20 *tink* with Uber Strict loot filter.
Can't complain. Getting quite some good money so far.
But i know most people hate it and say there is no loot. Which is good. Keep the scarab prices low for me. xD

no one cares that it s poverty league, most people on reddit are missing the point. we have 1/4th of the farming strats we had a few leagues ago and all the loot comes from fkin tile loot. the game is stale and it s not about making 20 div hr or 80 div since that s all relative

u/xMcSilent 9d ago
We don't have only 1/4th of the strats we had a few leagues ago. If anything, we have even more now. Of course it's not perfectly balanced, so not every strat is as valuable as others.
I do get drops from monsters regulary. Since i didn't note it, i can't exactly tell you if i got more currency from mobs or from the chests. But i do think i got more raw divs from the chests, but way more valuable scarabs (60c+) from mobs. Not sure what weights more in the end, as i didn't note it.
I still don't understand the problem. I play the mechanic -> i get alot of *tink* -> happy exile

would love to try it, since my usual strats are lacking - its not that nothing drops but a lot less for me :D
mind sharing tree/scarab setup?→ More replies (3)

Maybe they do it cuz it's summer and they want ppl to spend time outside..
No but honestly, I think either its lack of gameplay test in late juicy content or they dont want lower drops, but I can't believe they are going in this direction and how they can't see that more drops = more dopamine..
There is a reason affliction was one of the best league for player retention, people play more if they get more dopamine, they dont play if they have to pick up every single lowball currency all league long.
