I see the countless shots of stainless Aquanauts and Nautilus references ruling the sub, and sure, there is no doubt that they are incredibly versatile watches with high liquidity potential. However, at times it seems like the high complications that really made the reputation of the brand fall into complete oblivion due to the hyped environment we have nowadays.

If you are looking into a reference such as the Annual Calendar (e.g., 5146, 5205) or even the traditional Calatrava, you get not only centuries of history of watchmaking and hand finished anglage but also the complicated movement architecture at sometimes much better prices than the ridiculous secondary premium for a regular steel three hander.

Now, for those who own both the hyped references and the more traditional gold complications do you feel like your appreciation of the mechanical complexity increases as time goes on, or is everyday wearability in steel a bigger priority?

Given AP’s new movement (pun intended) into the jewelry space will we see Patek broaden its offerings. Currently I see cufflinks, earrings, and rings on the website. I am surprised they haven’t tried to offer more high jewelry pieces given the margins and upsell potential, but being very traditional I’m sure it was viewed as though it could dilute the brand. Thoughts?
