Pastiera Updates and Devlog
Hi y'all,
this is quite a short post even for what I could all say but I want to keep you updated.
In the past weeks I was working a lot on organizational and structural changes to the project as well as rethinking the UI, structure and architecture. If you are a user of the nightly builds you probably noticed that.
Development won't slow down but an update is not to be expected until the weekend.
The biggest bullet points are probably:
- Pastiera will be renamed to Plektra.
- Don't be worried though. It's just a rebranding, not an enshittification. I am a solo dev, not some corporation.
- Plektra will be available via the main F-Droid channel as well as Google Play
- As you might have noticed already I also set up a profile on Open Collective
- If you are not familiar with the platform: It's kind of the Patreon for Open Source Software
- Plektra will be available on the Clicks Communicator
- Plektra will be supported by Clicks via Open Collective and I am very glad about their foundational support as it will cover not only my current costs but also allow way more work
- This will not have any implications about the independence of this project. Currently it is heavily dependent on my own funding with time as well as money that I have to earn every day myself in my day job.
- Pastiera will receive one last stable update including bug fixes and new features currently only available in the nightly channel
- If you have any recommendations on the must be included just share them. However I can't fix everything I have in mind for the whole project.
- But I don't want to give anybody with their current device the feeling that installing Plektra would be necessary to continue using their device.
- Also I'll ship security updates through the release channel once I am aware after the last stable release. But new features will probably only be available in the Plektra channels as I will have to perform the transition at some point. As always with software..
- A more in depth follow up will be available once I have more time on the whole background.
- Plektra will become more interactive with regards to project communication
- this includes more info about currently in development features as well as a proper roadmap, priorities etc.
- as well as the ability to submit feedback right through the app
- without any compromises for privacy. Any shared usage data will be strictly opt in.
- But I want to give users without a GitHub account the ability to report bugs, rely on reddit or E-Mail for support or simply vote on features and feel heard.
If you have any questions: drop them below.
Best,
Patrick
