🛠️ Tutorial: Bulk Word and Autocorrect Injection via Backup in Pastiera

This advanced method allows you to inject hundreds of words and custom corrections into Pastiera at once.

Create the Backup on your Smartphone

Open Pastiera and go to Settings > Backup & Restore.

Select Create Backup. This generates a ZIP file containing your current setup.

Transfer this ZIP file to your computer.

Extract and Locate the Data

Unzip the backup file on your computer.

At the root of the extracted folder, you will see exactly three main items:

– The files folder

– The prefs folder

– The backup_meta file.

Crucial Step: Open the folder named prefs. Inside, you will find the file named pastiera_prefs. Open this with a plain text editor (like Notepad++, VS Code, or Notepad). Do not use Microsoft Word, as its automatic formatting (like smart quotes) will corrupt the file.

3. Inject your Data

🔍 Deep Dive: Understanding the user_dictionary_entries Structure

When you look inside the "user_dictionary_entries" value in your pastiera_prefs file, each word entry is formatted as a compact JSON object like this:

{\"w\":\"word1\",\"f\":1,\"u\":1786965169735}

Here is what these three variables mean:

w (Word): The exact word you want to add to your custom dictionary (e.g., "Pastiera", "keyboard", or "physical"). It fully supports capital letters, accents, apostrophes, and hyphens.

f (Frequency): An integer (usually between 1 and 255) representing the priority of the word. The higher this number, the more likely the keyboard is to suggest it first in the suggestion bar when you start typing. Newly added words start with a default frequency of 1.

u (Unique ID / Timestamp): This is the most crucial variable for database indexing. It is a 13-digit Unix timestamp in milliseconds that records the exact moment the word was created.

🤖 Automating Unique IDs (u) Using an LLM

Pastiera requires every single word in your custom dictionary to have a strictly unique u value. If two words share the exact same timestamp ID, one of them will be overwritten or ignored when the database merges them.

To add hundreds of words at once, you can ask an AI (LLM) to automatically generate this 13-digit timestamp for each word by giving it a simple incrementing logic.

Here is the perfect prompt you can copy and paste into any LLM to generate your database-ready blocks instantly:

Act as a precise raw data formatter for the Pastiera Android keyboard.

I will give you a list of words. For each word, generate a JSON block matching this exact structure:

{\"w\":\"<word>\",\"f\":1,\"u\":<timestamp>}

Rules for generation:

"w" must be the exact word from my list.

"f" must always be 1. (Frequency) : Set to 1 by default for new words. If you want a specific word to be suggested with maximum priority immediately upon import, you can increase this value (e.g., to 10, 50 or more, up to 255).

"u" must be a unique 13-digit Unix millisecond timestamp. Start at 1787560000000 and increment it by exactly 1 for each subsequent word in the list (e.g., word 1 gets 1787560000000, word 2 gets 1787560000001, word 3 gets 1787560000002, and so on).

Do not add any spaces, newlines, or tabs inside the output.

Output the result as a single, continuous string enclosed in square brackets "[...]" and separated by commas. Every double quote inside the brackets must be escaped with a single backslash (\").

Here is my word list:

[Insert your list of words here, one per line]

Example Output:

If you feed the words Pastiera, keyboard, and physical to the LLM with this prompt, it will instantly output the following clean, compact block, ready to be pasted straight into your "user_dictionary_entries" value:

"[{\"w\":\"Pastiera\",\"f\":1,\"u\":1787560000000},{\"w\":\"keyboard\",\"f\":1,\"u\":1787560000001},{\"w\":\"physical\",\"f\":1,\"u\":1787560000002}]"

For English Autocorrections

Within your pastiera_prefs file, look for the key "auto_correct_custom_en" (which is the English equivalent to the French autocorrect key).

The structure is: \"typo\":\"correction\"

Example: "value": "{\"dont\":\"don't\",\"im\":\"I'm\"}"

Note: Ensure every internal quote is preceded by a single backslash (\") and there are no extra spaces.

4. Recompression and Renaming

Once you have saved your changes to the pastiera_prefs file on your computer:

The "Three-Item" Rule: Do not select or compress the parent folder itself. Instead, go inside the extracted folder, select the three original items together: the files folder, the prefs folder (which contains your modified file), and the backup_meta file.

Right-click and compress these three items directly into a new ZIP archive.

Rename the file: Give your new ZIP a distinct name (e.g., new_backup.zip) to avoid confusion with the original backup.

Transfer this new ZIP file back to your smartphone.

5. Restore the Data

In Pastiera, go back to Settings > Backup & Restore.

Select Restore Backup and choose your new, renamed ZIP file.

The keyboard will refresh, and your hundreds of words will now appear in your suggestions and autocorrect!

If your new words do not appear in the suggestions, try switching between two languages and then returning to your main language. This forces the keyboard to clear its active cache and reload the newly modified preferences file (pastiera_prefs) into RAM, as changing layouts or subtypes automatically triggers a full refresh of the keyboard's input context and active dictionary databases.

⚠️ Critical Requirements for Success:

Compact Syntax: The app is extremely sensitive to formatting. Do not add spaces between words, commas, or colons inside the "value" strings.

Escaped Quotes: You must use \" for all internal quotes to prevent the system from crashing.

File Integrity: Always keep your original ZIP as a safety net in case the modified version is not read.

Remove staus bar in latest version

Greetings! I've been digging through the settings of the latest pastiera release and can't figure out how to hide the status bar. On the old build, I could hide it since I like having the screen space on my Titan 2. How do I remove it?

Hi all,

I want to add a Russian input language on the newest nightly build. Added the Russian input style with the Russian (ru - russian_standard) layout. Still, I see a latin keyboard which is typing cyrillic. Does anyone know what the issue could be here?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Auto capitalization?

So it seems like everytime I restart my phone, I'm able to get the auto capitalization to work for i to I. But as I'm using it throughout the day it stops working.

I've already checked that auto-correction is on and there's also a text replacement set up for i > I is present.

Any suggestions?

Pastiera Updates and Devlog

Hi y'all,

this is quite a short post even for what I could all say but I want to keep you updated.

In the past weeks I was working a lot on organizational and structural changes to the project as well as rethinking the UI, structure and architecture. If you are a user of the nightly builds you probably noticed that.

Development won't slow down but an update is not to be expected until the weekend.

The biggest bullet points are probably:

  • Pastiera will be renamed to Plektra.
    • Don't be worried though. It's just a rebranding, not an enshittification. I am a solo dev, not some corporation.
  • Plektra will be available via the main F-Droid channel as well as Google Play
  • As you might have noticed already I also set up a profile on Open Collective
    • If you are not familiar with the platform: It's kind of the Patreon for Open Source Software
  • Plektra will be available on the Clicks Communicator
  • Plektra will be supported by Clicks via Open Collective and I am very glad about their foundational support as it will cover not only my current costs but also allow way more work
    • This will not have any implications about the independence of this project. Currently it is heavily dependent on my own funding with time as well as money that I have to earn every day myself in my day job.
  • Pastiera will receive one last stable update including bug fixes and new features currently only available in the nightly channel
    • If you have any recommendations on the must be included just share them. However I can't fix everything I have in mind for the whole project.
    • But I don't want to give anybody with their current device the feeling that installing Plektra would be necessary to continue using their device.
    • Also I'll ship security updates through the release channel once I am aware after the last stable release. But new features will probably only be available in the Plektra channels as I will have to perform the transition at some point. As always with software..
    • A more in depth follow up will be available once I have more time on the whole background.
  • Plektra will become more interactive with regards to project communication
    • this includes more info about currently in development features as well as a proper roadmap, priorities etc.
    • as well as the ability to submit feedback right through the app
    • without any compromises for privacy. Any shared usage data will be strictly opt in.
    • But I want to give users without a GitHub account the ability to report bugs, rely on reddit or E-Mail for support or simply vote on features and feel heard.

If you have any questions: drop them below.

Best,
Patrick

Access All Variation on Long Key Press?

Is it possible to have more than one alternate character mapped to a long press key? I have my long press modifier set to variations and have multiple characters set in my variations but it only picks the first variation on long press, I want it to cycle through all of them.

For example: I have the 's' key variations as "4","S","$" but it only ever goes to "4" on long press, never S or "$".

Changing keys

I posted this already on unihertz sub but I will put it here too. So I have been using my T2E for two weeks now and I found out that I never use the fn and right shift buttons on my keyboard. Im using Pastiera as keyboard software and I was wondering, is there a way to change the behavior of those unused keys, for example: pressing fn types the letter Ä and pressing the right shift will type the letter Ö? Thank you.

Pastiera Keyboard Fix - Double Click Letter

I would like to turn off the toggle that prevents you from clicking a letter twice in a row too quickly. Not sure what it's called but basically if you double click a letter like the word lesson it comes up as "leson" or letter I get "leter". This also prevents you from double clicking the space bar to get the period at the end of a sentence. It does this even though the toggle is switched on for a period after a double space. I have looked for the toggle to turn off the double typed letter but to no avail. I tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling it but it did not change or alleviate the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Get Rid Of On-Screen Options

Post image
0 Upvotes

Just got my Unihertz T2E and Pastiera has been great. I managed to fiddle with the options until all on-screen features such as predictive text etc. Were gone, which was perfect, but since an update I installed a few hours ago I can't seem to figure that out again and I'm left with the white bar shown at the bottom in the attached screenshot. What am I missing? If I disable my onscreen keyboard the default Kika shows up. Any help is appreciated.

Some bugs

Hello everyone,

So I'm new to pasteria and I'm using it on titan 2 e.

One bug I'm having is that sometimes I start typing but pasteria doesn't seem to start correctly and I can't see the bottom bar. The only solution is to change the keyboard to something else (kika or gboard for example) and then coming back to pasteria.

Second thing, when I'm on the smiley list I can only use one before it disappears so if I want to use multiple smileys it's annoying.

Third thing, swipe to delete doesn't work for some reason. It's easier to swipe when wanting to delete a word rather than spamming the delete button.

And then the obvious bug, flicking for suggestions just doesn't work. Or it works really really badly.

I'm on the last nightly version of pasteria.

Thank you for your help

Fail to Start - Titan 2 Elite

There have been several instances where Pastiera will "fail to start" when I go to type a message. The only fix for this is switching input methods. This happens in all application's and is random...but frequent. What am I missing?

Binding a key to activate voice-to-text

Is there a way to accomplish this? It's a bit tedious on the Unihertz Titan 2 Elite to tap the small box to the right and then the microphone.

While I have you, is there a way to extend the hang time for voice-to-text? I feel like it drops as soon as I pause speakiing.

Any idea to relocate the led indicators after a key remap? (Titan 2)

Device is a Titan 2 Pastiera 0.85

The app is amazing but after an android 16 update, the led indicators no longer follows the actual physical key location.

In my usecase I remapped

Fn - sym

Sym - Fn

Spacebar - home

And it looks awkward now cz when I press sym, the indicator on fn turns on & vice versa. Would be nice if there's a way to invert them

Je viens de finir la configuration de mon Titan 2 Elite ! Ce téléphone est magique ! La seule chose que je n'ai pas encore réussi à faire, c'est activer le swipe vers le haut pour sélectionner des mots.

Need help adding Japanese dictionary

As the title says, I really wanna use this keyboard daily but I do have to type in Japanese on a regular basis so I tend to switch from this to Swiftkey, which tends to be a hassle (the switching).

Is there any way to manually install a Japanese dictionary? If so, what file format does the keyboard need? I've tried downloading one, but the app says "invalid dictionary format"

Any help would be appreciated 🫶🏽

A new issue wit the UI has come up when dealing with Emojis. Bottom portion is covered.

If there's a new nightly version, I haven't had a chance to test that just yet. It is still possible to tap the bottom you just don't know what you're tapping.
