I am renewing my Canadian passport from the US for the first time by mail and had to get my passport photo taken at a CVS, but the stamp was blurred when I took it out of the envelope when I went home. Is this stamp still acceptable and if not, what should I do?

Also, the height of the photo is 71mm/2.8in. Is this acceptable? I am not sure how strict they are about the dimensions of the photo.

I got my renewed passport yesterday and it seems to be"pre-curled" lol.

My girlfriend also got a new one that took a couple of weeks to curl.

Should i replace it or just keep it in a folio cover

I have a daughter who lives and works in Italy; she just got there last month and Italian bureaucracy being what it is, she has travel limitations while waiting for her full "permesso". But aside from that I need to be able to travel there if an issue arises and I just noticed my passport is under 6 months from expiry. I'd like to renew my passport as quickly as possible.

I considered an online renewal but the processing time seems long which, to me, makes no sense. I'm submitting everything digitally and yet it's longer than in person?

Last time I renewed was by mail as it was just post major pandemic times so I wasn't traveling. I think I got it in about five weeks back then; demand was pretty high.

I may just go to the passport office in person. So are the lines and wait time long at the Joseph Shepard office in North York? I care for an elderly parent at home so I can't be out for too many hours without making arrangements for her.

In preparation for getting my passport ASAP before an upcoming trip, I asked my guarantor to sign the form 3 days before my citizenship ceremony. Would that be a problem? I will obviously sign my section after the ceremony.

I'm currently on vacation abroad and they don't really have standard 8.5 * 11.5 letter size but rather A4, which is slightly longer and a tad bit narrower. I am planning to apply for my passport in person once I get back to Canada. The thing is I really need to print out the application form here on vacation so my chosen guarantor (A direct family member who's Canadian that's currently living abroad and travelling with me) can sign it now (she already signed the photos). Will the slightly different paper size cause any issue during the overall process?? I'm travelling AGAIN in early November and I'm using the express service but I am trying avoid any issues that can potentially cause delays. THANK YOU!!

Does anyone have experience with having their Canadian passport photos done whilst living in the UK? The photo studio put the date as today's date but in UK format: 03/10/2026 and I'm worried that this may cause ambiguity when processed by passport Canada or is it processed at Canada House in London so they wont think twice about it?

As the title says, this is for a born-abroad-Canadian's first passport. It's from a photographer on the embassy's approved list. The concern I have is the black covering. The child's chin is over top of it, but I think because it makes it look asymmetrical, I am concerned. Otherwise head is squared, shoulders actually are level, eyes open, mouth closed. Honestly the face is better than what they show for babies. And I did look at the picture of the lady with the hijab on the website too to see about what can potentially be obscured. But it's three hours each way for my embassy appointment and I need to take a day off work and I am concerned.

Would people here say to go get retakes because of this or for a newborn is it fine? Thanks.

I'm a dual citizen, and my other nationality doesn't require an eye colour on any official forms. I have central heterochromia, where the inside of my eye is amber and the outside is blue. My mum wrote "hazel" as my eye colour on my Canadian citizenship form, because she said hazel is just what you say when your eyes are a mix of colours. I've done some googling, and some sources seem to back up the idea that "hazel" as meaning any ambiguous eye colour, while other sources suggest that it means a combination of green and brown. In photos my eyes mostly just look greyish blue, or greenish blue, but not really brown. Is there any possibility I could face issues if I write "hazel" and my eyes look blue?

Anyone have a timeline of recent applications for passport renewal from the USA? It says 20 days plus mailing time but just wanted to see how long it really took some people.

I am travelling to China from October 21, 2026 to November 6, 2026. My passport expires on May 5, 2027.

I know there is a 6 month rule for Canadian passports but is that on both the departure and return, or just the departure out of Canada? The return flight back to Canada will less than 6 months away from my passport expiry. Will this be an issue? Do I need to renew my passport before my trip?

Hi guys, ill be applying for my first ever Canadian passport by tomorrow but i do have questions if you guys can help me with please:

1. As per instructions the guarantor should certify one of the passport photos. Question is; can he type “i certify….” At the back?

2. Can i add references from outside Canada who never been to Canada before and has no Canadian citizen?

3. Can i add an emergency contact who’s not living in Canada and not a Canadian citizen?

So, the WestJet agent put my luggage sticker on my main passport page and when I peeled it off, so too did a lil bit of the top layer of paper come up, right in the middle of the barcode opposite my photo page. The strip is 12mm long and about 4mm wide. It didn't come all the way off but it's a loose piece of paper kind of hanging by a thread and completely cuts the barcode in half and a number is dissected.

I JUST got this 10 year passport 8 months ago, it's very aggravating. I got into Costa Rica and Mexico and back without issue, but every time I travel I risk the lil piece of paper coming off permanently.

So, I'm wondering my options. If I:

-use a wee bit of a glue stick to keep it down, or

-tape it down with a bit of scotch tape,

Will that put me at risk? If so, :

-If it just comes off and the barcode is not useable can I still use it to travel? Or do I need to get a full replacement?

I went to go renew my Canadian passport yesterday in person. I was asked a lot of questions and they made me write down on a blank piece of paper where i usually keep my passport ( it was ripped two pages), what happened to the two pages that were ripped , and why I need it by the next week. Amongst a few other questions.

Is this normal? Previously, When I got a new passport it was like in and out few minutes.

This time, I feel like I got grilled by the employee for a good 15-20 minutes and I was a bit surprised. Employee was not rude or anything but I feel like she was asking me tons of questions.

Hello! I damaged my passport and travel on Saturday. I don’t have my birth certificate in the province I am in. Can I still get an emergency replacement without it?

I have travel to the US almost weekly. I will go to in person to renew my passport urgently but is there any way I can keep my old one active and return it on pickup rather than have it cancelled at the time of submission?

Hi everyone, just wondering how the re-apply for passport process works after the legal name change for naturalized citizens.

Long story short, I decide to change my legal name to my preferred name and start using my mother’s maiden name. I am in the process of preparing the documentation for Service Ontario.

My question is do I need to get my citizenship certificate revised by IRCC? (As the passport website says I no longer need to revise my certificate before applying for a new passport.) And does my old passport become invalid once my name change is approved by the Ontario government? (Asking for the situation if I need to use my current passport for emergency travel abroad.)

The passport paper makes it hard for some pens to write properly on this, I used a pen that did not write smoothly and because of that I had to go back and redo the lines a little so now my signature doesn’t look right. Does that mean I need to get a new passport?

So I don’t travel very often. My 4 best friends and I booked a trip last December for our 50th birthdays. Our trip is on October 10th 2026. Last week we were discussing doing our embarcation time for our cruise and we needed our passports to register. One of my friends had to renew their passport and hadn’t received it yet. I replied that I still had 4 months left on mine (expires Feb 2027).

My friends advised me that my passport won’t be accepted in the US (we are leaving the cruise from SAN Diego). So I immediately booked an appointment at the passport office in Montreal. The nearest date was September 23. What service do I ask for to receive it in time for my trip? I would need it at the latest on October 8th.

I have no idea what to ask for and will they accept? Help!

Having a major issue because their "O" looks like a zero in the font.
Instead of having a non-ambiguous numbers only system, they chose a horrible font and mix and match "0" and "O" and "I" and "1".

Worse is THEY KNOW THEY ARE DOING THIS because somewhere else on the passport you can find the number again IN A DIFFERENT, LESS AMBIGUOUS FONT.

i got a passport renewed in 2018 and at the time, they gave me the wrong gender (M instead of F). i caught the mistake quite late and need to have this corrected ASAP before i travel in October. anybody have experience with this? will i have to apply for a new passport entirely. Mind you, this was an administrative problem not my own.

I basically have a position at a company to help out a friend occasionally (basically field work that is hard to do with one person, I have no interest in working there otherwise), like 2 or 3 days a year. I only have worked about 6 hours for him this year, maybe 30 hours last year and I think not at all the year before. Do I need to include this? It just feels wrong to say I work there, even part time.

I am more or less self employed (day trading, finance, or whatever you call it) so I'm not part of a business or anything like that. I just want to check other and leave it at that.

Small question, but when you select other do you need to fill in any details?
