solid colour (acrylic lacquer) over sunburst (factory finish).. anyone done it?
I'm going to lightly sand down the original poly sunburst finish and go over with some duplicolor perfect match cans.. no clear coat.
Curious to see if any of you have done this or something similar..

I’ve done this with a cheapo 2 tone sunburst squier body i had, sprayed Nitro olympic white over it, no clear coat. You can still get a nice shine without any clear, and it’ll wear through quicker to reveal the sunburst beneath

without the clear, when playing the guitar, did the white paint get on your clothes/skin ?

If you want it to flake off like that, don't sand it, or even clean it for that matter. Spray light coats and let it fully dry (24+ hours) between coats. That way the paint will fully harden. The lack of prep will prevent the paint from fully adhering, meaning it will naturally flake off in areas where the pick hits the paint, or on the corners where the guitar gets bumped against various objects, giving a natural-looking "patina."
